I love a single parent book and who doesn't like mafia reads. It's a little hard to read an 18 year old with someone in their 30's, especially when the girl gets married the day after she turns 18, but that is the premise of the read, so there you go.
I liked the first 75% of the read. I found the FL very mature and really doesn't act like an 18 year old, so it was a little unbelievable but that's okay. The two little kids were cute and the ML was overall okay. I liked him and he was levelheaded, but towards the end, he got a bit much for me.
Overall, the book past the time, but it will be awhile before I read an age-gap book. ...more

I can’t believe I binged read Remember me in ONE sitting. This book was a random find at the library and I absolutely devoured this read. I can’t explain it. I just simply loved the simple story line and the dynamics between the leads.
Lucas is the only heir to his ducal line and without his father, the grandfather is anxious for a great grandbaby to carry on the name. If I could describe Lucas in one word it would be very gentlemanly. I know that doesn’t tug on everyone’s heart strings, but I adore him.
I loved how filial Lucas was to his grand-parents. I love the way he treated Philippa and during his mistakes, he always said he was sorry. He’s the nice guy all women should marry.
Philippa is the pretty swan with a good head on her shoulders. As much as readers love a flawed FL, I really liked how everything was almost perfect for Philippa. She is pretty, has great family and is very lady like.
To me, the low angst read of the book and very nice storyline was the perfect read for me. Lucas and Phil don’t always see eye to eye, but there is ALWAYS conversation and resolvent in conflict. It was just a really healthy relationship they formed. I really enjoyed it.
I loved both families and I loved all the characters. It reminded me of Pride and Prejudice, reading who was married to who and who is son / daughter of who. I don’t know, but I got sucked into this fictional world and I wanted to learn more about the side characters.
This book isn’t for everyone. There’s a lot of verbiage, story building and character building. The steam level is VERY low and hardly to no angst. BUT that is totally my jam!...more

The audio was great for me while I worked because it was really slow and dry and I was able to follow along as I did my job.
The main heroine is really tough and when she cut her leg to use her blood I was all in. The hero is kind interesting. He’s caring but kind of a Buffon? So the star of the book is the heroine.
The accent was really hard to listen to and this is coming from someone who loves accents. I’ve never heard such a thick Scottish accent. But soon enough I was able to grasp the words and didn’t think anything of it. I just wasn’t able to speed up the volume like I usually do when I listen to books.

The reviews are pretty much spot on with The Duke is Mine. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it. I think the narrator enhanced my reading a lot and if you could do a version I would do the audio version. I really liked the narrator.
Overall, it was an okay book to have in the background. I usually wouldn’t pick up this type of book, but I didn’t know about the premise but the read itself didn’t bother me.
She’s betrothed to another man, while a Duke pursues her. So if you have an issue with cheating, I wouldn’t recommend this read. I mean, you don’t like the guy she is betrothed to, but that storyline can irk some people.
The book dragged a bit and there really wasn’t any romance, except for the fact the Duke was smitten with the Olivia and really wanted her, for what reason, I don’t know. I would say the author does a job on setting up the story and adding additional scenes and facts for fillers.
Do I need to know Olivia’s history with her betrothal? Not really. I don’t think there was any relationship building in this book. But like I said, it was something to have on the background while I mindless work at my job.
P.S. This is suppose to be a tale of "prince and the pea" ... that's a laughable joke. I had no idea. That's kind of sad, since I already finished it and didn't even realize it. ...more

I have been binge listening to dystopian YA books and needed something steamy and light. Jock Rule hit the spot.
Also, you can’t complain with Chelsea Hatfield and Jacob Morgan as your narrators.
Sometimes a light, no fuss and no angst kind of read is the exact book you need to listen to. I honestly have been in a good mood all day and I know my good mood is due to the fact I have a happy book to listen to.
This is a college romance with the kind of frumpy girl-next-door and rich jock read. Oh and he’s super hairy. The only thing I could say is that they mentioned his “hair” a bit too much, but the way the narrators read it, it didn’t bother me as much.
It’s a best-friends to lovers kind of romance too.

I thought Night to Surrender was okay. I found it a touch too long and I didn’t care for the characters.
I really wanted to like the Heroine, Susanna but she was a little too strong for my opinion. She was mama bear like times ten. I wanted Victor to bring her down a bit, but she instead brought him up because he was self conscience about his bad leg.

Chasing Cassandra is exactly what I needed during this bleak time. It was uplifting, funny, adorable, sweet and best of all… really steamy! I love the tension.
Mary Jane Wells is my number one favorite narrator with an accent. I could listen to her 24-7. Her acting ability is amazing, I love her accent and voice transitions. I only wished she did more books! The audio version 100% elevated this read for me and I couldn’t have it any other way.
By far this is my favorite Ravenel read. You don’t usually have to read the books in order, but all the couples are coupled off and Cassandra is the last to be wed. So, it was nice hearing the brother in law, cousins and sister talk since I have already read their stories.
What I loved best about this book was that is a historical romance novel with everything I look for in a historical romance novel. I love the light-no fuss storyline. I love that it’s steamy (it’s very hard to find that now) and both characters, Cassandra and Tom were amazing.
I love how kind, adorable and sweet Cassandra was (even though the girl on the cover is a model) Cassandra is a plump thing very conscience of her figure and wants to find love.
Tom is quirky and you could say he seems to be on the spectrum, well, his personality is detached, but it really worked in the read. I found him funny to listen to and I was just rooting for him to land the girl.
I do like it when the Hero chases after the Heroine and I do love that he became smitten with her within first sight.
I really liked reading the parts of Tom and Cassandra getting to know each other. I liked how different they were but how much they worked being together. Gah, when I finished the book I wanted to read it again!
Basil the little boy was my favorite character too.

I have mixed feelings on this one. I haven’t read a recently published book by Kristen Ashley for sometime because of all of the negative reviews, so I thought I couldn’t go wrong with her old stuff.
I liked the book overall, but at the middle point I got frustrated with the writing style and I had to speed up the book by 2X. My husband comments that I don’t like books so I start to speed up the narration.
First off, the narration was good. I like the narrator and she had a sweet and pleasant voice. I did listen to the first half in my usual 1.25X speed. I liked that the book isn’t Kristen Ashley’s typical 22-hour length of read, so about 15 hours wasn’t bad.
I didn’t realize it was a second chance novel and usually those don’t bother me, but when I realized why it was a second chance novel, gah I rolled my eyes and kind of power through the book.
The book had all of the feels of a Kristen Ashley read. You had the girl who is a damsel, the hero who likes to not speak in full sentences and of course everyone around them causing trouble.
I really didn’t like the grandmother, I thought her character was really annoying.
You can’t go wrong with a cowboy and horses.

I picked up the audio because I love Teddy Hamilton’s voice and he made it a little better for me.
What I liked.
I liked that the book wasn’t long.
I liked the dual narrators, I felt like they represented the characters well.
I liked that it didn’t take long to find out what happened to Silver and I liked that we knew why Alex needed to be a “good” student.
What I didn’t like.
The villains in this book was too much. Sometimes when authors write angsty-filled books, it just becomes a Debbie downer. Like, how many times can a villain “win”.
The detail description of what happened to Silver was not needed. I didn’t need to listen for an HOUR of what I knew what was going to happen. I know this was meant for dramatic effect, but to me, it felt like a filler. I rather have that scene glossed over.
There wasn’t much high school / Alex and Silver time. Most of the interactions where Silver and Alex got to know each other was at the cabin and that’s a little too easy writing for my taste.
Overall, I’m not sure if I will continue with the story. I kind of want to only because I feel like it might be a little less the villains are winning (as opposed to this book). ...more

First comes scandal isn’t your typical historical romance read. I would put the “romance” part of the book in the back burner. The author does a lot of character and story set-up. For me, I didn’t mind this. I was interested in Georgiana and Nicholas’ backstory and character.
Nicholas is strongly urged to marry Georgiana because she is compromised, but it wasn’t her fault! They are childhood friends so it’s a friends to lover’s type of read. Nicholas is studying to be a doctor and so he’s not the typical rouge cad, he’s just a guy that likes to study and doesn’t want to be tied down. BUT he is willing to do it for honor.
There really wasn’t any chemistry nor spark to Nicholas and Georgiana’s story for me, but it was a very realistic and sort of static relationship. To me, it all seemed very professional and low angst (which I like).
Overall, it’s a read not for everyone, but I didn’t mind listening to it. ...more

I was hesitant in starting a Tracey Garvis Graves read. I hadn’t read one of her books in a long time and the last book I read was okay but it was pretty popular.
If you could do the audio version of this book I would highly recommend it. I really liked the narrators and even though I had to speed up the narration by 1.5X just to have it at comfortable speed for me, I didn’t mind it. I tend to like my audio reads at a fast pace. I can’t remember the last time I listened to a book at normal pace.
There were aspects of the book I liked and there were some that felt awkward and forced.
I liked the premise and cover of this book. I liked that Annika was on the spectrum, she was beautiful and the story went from past to present. I usually don’t like past and present reads, but the overall tone of the book was very light. That was the real winner for me.
You understood that Annika and Jonathan were college sweethearts and they broke up, but it wasn’t like the huge plot of the book. The plot of the book was Annika and Jonathan meeting again and navigating life 10 years later.
Like I said, it was overall pleasant and light.
I don’t know if the author portrayed someone on the spectrum to the best she could. It felt like I was being told a lot of what someone on the spectrum would feel, rather than reading a book about a woman who is living her life but with autism.
The only reason why I didn’t love the book was the last bit of drama thrown in the end. I read a review before I started this book and I agree with the other reviewer. It was very not needed and it to me put the tone of the book in a different light.
I enjoyed Annika and Johnathan’s relationship. I felt like Jonathan was very patient with her and in a way I wished he knew someone who was Autistic to show how easy it was for him to be patient. He was just a little too nice and a little unbelievable in my opinion.

The pace was way off. Kate and Sam meeting as teenagers lasted too long. How much of a bond could they form in two weeks? This isn’t a dramatic book, it’s a light hearted book, so I don’t need 30% of the book about them as kids and just hanging out.
Yes, they hang out and it’s a lot of descriptive narrative. I didn’t care about them talking about random stuff. Nothing really moved the relationship forward until they separate.
So girl falls in love with boy and GASP boy betrays her! **Eye Roll** How long did it take for Christina Laruen figure out this plot? Maybe 2 minutes?
This book was 100% unoriginal and boring
Sam betrays her and it’s awful. Do I feel like he can be redeemed? No.
Kate films on set and it’s still boring. You would like after 13 years and when they revisit, there would be something good. Nope.
The relationship between Sam and Kate is MEGA forced. It’s not organic and you don’t really know how the two of them could ever like each other. Kate becomes annoying and she forms more relationships with her co-stars, friends and her dad, rather than have meaningful moments with Sam.
Then … there is a bunch of drama towards the end. REALLY? Like everything and the kitchen sink is thrown in the book and it’s so typical, so unoriginal and you are scratching your head if the authors truly wrote the book.

I’m not sure if the entire series is YA, but the first book is definitely YA, there’s nothing wrong with that, so if you are looking for a book for a tween, they can read this one. Other than the gore, it’s pretty tame.
Like what most reviews state, it’s a Hunger Games feel type of book with Vampires, so I was of course interested in the book.
When I started the book I realized this book is HIGHLY descriptive. I mean, my kindle told me it would take over 6 hours to read the book. That is a clear sign of what kind of writing style the author writes.
Honestly 30% of the book could have been edited out. There was WAY too much detail in some scenes and not enough character development in other scenes.
The author puts a lot of emphasis in the game itself, which is fine, but the game is played with 20 other girls. The hero isn’t really in the game, so you get a glimpse of interaction between the Heroine and Hero sprinkled here and there, which is okay, BUT it makes the chemistry or lack of chemistry between the Heroine and Hero non existent.
Selena and Varick’s friendship / “relationship” was mega forced and hard to believe. I was more interested in Selena’s relationship between her and the other girls to be honest.
Another thing about the book I didn’t like was the Debbie downer aspect. The villains seem to always have the upper hand it was very frustrating. Selena is pitted against 50 vampires and Varick can’t step out of line or he dies. I felt like where was the relief? It was too much tension for my taste.
With all that is said and done, I don’t think I will continue with the series. I’m not invested into the characters enough, the books are way too long and the writing is too descriptive. I wouldn’t be opposed to look at different series from the author, but not this one. ...more

The worst thing for this book was Teagan, the Heroine.
Look I don’t bully books. I like enemies to lovers reads BUT there has to be a balance.
90% of the book was Stupid fighting. Not even cute banter fighting but it’s all misunderstandings. I hate that type of writing. Why would I read a book where the couple fights for almost the ENTIRE book? What’s the point?
Teagan made me want to give this book negative stars.
She’s judgmental. She thinks the hero is a drugie bc he has tattoos and has parties? Ummm ok.
It’s so obvious that the mean girls are doing things to Teagan’s car BUT she blames the hero so many times bc she’s so stupid, immature and CRAZY.
She says stupid stuff and then cries when she gets hurt. There are dangerous men surrounding her and Noah yells at her to get In the car and what does she do? Complain that Noah is bossing her around. Ummm. Are you dumb? Do you want to be raped? This is the 11 hours of listening I endured.
Noah is no gem either. His “secret” the reason why he fights is stupid. Oh my god. There are tons of solutions for him to live a little less stressful life
And can he say something else than say Teagan is a thorn on His side?
Teagan complains about the parties next door and her uncle says wear head headphones? Ummm what? That relationship was exhausting to read too.
There was zero balance of tension.
This type of writing is too much angst. But not the fun kind that makes you want to finish the book. It’s exhausting, kind of lazy and not really reasonable. Let’s write OTT characters that are bat crazy, stupid and so annoying.
