It happens TWICE and the man doing the assaulting is the “hero” of this story. I am not a stranger to dark fiction and actively read “dead dove do not eat” fanfics but the thing with those is that you know what you’re getting into. This one does not necessarily market itself as a story that would have sexual assault. Luckily for me, I saw it mentioned in other reviews so I went in expecting it. She eventually does become a willing partner but initially she most definitely is not.
The story was generic fantasy and the writing was….well it was certainly writing. I don’t remember the comic having this much smut? It was also written like an alien observing people having spicy times. So weird.
Will i continue the story? Probably, if i remember it exists but i can’t recommend this book to anyone....more

I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump and needed something soft and cozy but still with some teeth to it and this was perfect. If you liked other cozy I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump and needed something soft and cozy but still with some teeth to it and this was perfect. If you liked other cozy fantasies like Legends and Lattes but wished that maybe a bit more would happen, this may be perfect for you. If you love found family, this is for you. If you prefer fantasy light on the romance, also for you. In The Teller of Small Fortunes, we follow the teller of small fortunes as she travels around telling, you guessed it, small fortunes. She’s pretty obviously running from something and, in the process, runs into some people and collects some new friends, one of which is a cat. The story is cute and lovely and emotional and everything I wanted. Highly recommend. I definitely cried. ...more

It did hook me around 33% and I read the entire thing in one sitting but …hmm. What? Ok. This had *a lot* of tangents and was so meandering for being as short as it is. A low angst second chance romance, I guess. They have a couple awkward interactions before getting too busy to deal with trauma and just start acting like a couple. So, not ideal if you’re actually a fan of second chance romance and what they usually entail.
I also found the teenagers annoying. They spoke like kids from a 90s sitcom. All snark and quips and smarter than the adults. Got tiring pretty quick.
The plot was okay. Spent a lot of pages doing something or other, that’s for sure.
Overall, if you’re looking for a witchy book, this will fill the void, but not in any memorable way. It did not live up to the first book in this series for me and I’ll only be continuing to the third one to see how it wraps up. ...more

It’s pretty light on the romance considering the way it’s marketed, and that kind of led to it feeling like it moved very fast. There’s one mostly open door scene which seemed a bit out of place but might just be a me thing.
I did not realize this was a series series and not a series of stand alone romances, so I’m very glad that I didn’t follow my whims and start with the second one like I originally wanted to. Overall I highly recommend this if you like fun witchy books with some mystery, friendship, and some romance. Perfect read for October. ...more

For some reason I was expecting a high intensity horrific revisit of the scene of the mass murder, but that is definitely not what this is. A much more subdued story about people suffering intense trauma, coming to terms with it sort of, and returning to the place that birthed the trauma…eventually.
