This book was a little different the the CR we have come to know and love. Don't get me wrong, there is still classic Christy writing, but this has a different kind of grit to it and quite a bit of spice.
With this being the start of a new series (YAY) we meet quite a few characters, and trust me, you will be craving more by the end of the story. I had several LOL moments, several moments where I am staring dumbfounded at my Nook and one very WTF moment.
Asher and Jules...while on paper, shouldn't work...they just do. There are many twists and turns and lots of obstacles, but one of the things I loved was that Jules was a badass but also a woman, through and through. Not gonna lie...I have a bit of a crush on Jazz and can't wait to read more about her.

I should have known better with this author, but I, again, set myself up for disappointment. This author loves to write about a virgin heroine with mommy and daddy issues with a white knight (with some rough edges) that saves the day. It's like wash, rinse, and repeat and it isn't anything different with this book. I didn't like him, I liked her, kind of, the story was nothing new and I am done spending money on this author.

Christy is an auto-buy author for me and this book shows just why that is. There is so much to unpack in this book. This book is part of a series, it Christy is an auto-buy author for me and this book shows just why that is. There is so much to unpack in this book. This book is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone, but it would make more sense if you read them in order. Jazz and Xavier are "easy" friends and partners first, followed by more. There wasn't any weird drama with their relationship, the drama comes in their cases. This book offers so much in suspense, drama, a few chuckles (gotta love a runaway goat), and intrigue. ...more

Reagan is in a relationship with Cade, a lawyer in the and against company policy. This sets its own set of complications. Feelings + hiding such a thing = more feelings
I loved that Reagan wasn't a damsel in distress more of a take the bull by the horns kind of gal. I loved that she and Cade had such a relationship that he didn't feel he had to save her, yet work WITH her. I loved the twists and turns and can't believe this is a debut book by this author. The characters, while an artist and a doctor seemed extremely juvenile. The conversations between the brothers made me cringe. The back and forth and "misunderstanding" was lackluster. I really wanted to love this, I love finding a new-to-me author, but this one wasn't it. I didn't realize this was a series until I was in it a little bit, but I don't think that hindered following the "plot". All in all, I don't see this author in my future....more

You dealt with LGBTQ with trans, then there was LGBTQ with a bi love interest, then there was racism and antisemitism, then there was Indian burial grounds (which is the only one that actually made sense for the storyline), then there was some spousal abuse thrown in for good measure, there was mental illness in there, plus some women's issues...you know, for added affect. It was too much, and too preachy. I liked the storyline, until I didn't and felt like it was about an agenda and that threw me WAY off. I get wanting/needing a platform, but this was platform overload for me. I sincerely hope this isn't a trend....more

It is a definite "insta love" story, like 3 days, done, they were madly in love, can't live with out you, would kill for you, kind of love. It was just too short of a story to have any depth. The suspense part, was rushed, and the love story was SUPER rushed. Not my favorite of the series....more

It seems there are others less than thrilled, but you were taken on a wild ride and were made to "feel" what the character felt. To me, that is good writing, if you can actually feel, you have emotions based on the words written, the author did a great job. Of course, some of the storyline wasn't believable, but...it's fiction. I enjoyed getting to know this family and can't wait to see what else they have going on....more
