Easily one of my favourite books in the series. The torture, the mind-games, the fear, the punishments! The blood. I devoured this book in one sitting and I am telling you, I didn't want it to end. Like, everything happened so fast and I learned not to get deeply attached to any of the characters because they could be next in the killer's list.
Also, one character really upped the game. A different set of eyes and skills which kind of worked well with Hunter's lane although somewhat different and shrouded in mystery. That ending gave me the shivers! It was so so satisfying—just how I wanted it.
Okay, this is only a quick review because I'm already flipping the first page of the next book in the series. Yey....more

And Robert Hunter? I am simping over him so bad I didn't want him hitched. Can he stay single until book 20, please? Chris? Haha. I can't begin to describe how perfectly he is written. I felt so familiar with him, like, he's someone I know, like an old friend or an old flame. He's quite magnificent.
Fast-paced, intriguing, brutal and clever. Everything you could ever want in a thriller. The mind games between Robert and Lucien carried the whole thing, the personal connection between them added to the complexity and contrast of their characters. It makes you really ask yourself how some very smart and capable people could really veer into the dark path.
Anyway, I'm just in the mood to continue this series. I don' think I'll stop until I've finished the most recent one.
Whoa. Why!? Chris Carter, why would you do that to my fragile heart?

Early on in the novel, something unexpected happened. One particular event changed the course of the story and I felt bad, not even 10 pages in and boom! What the hell? It only proves how unpredictable this series is. Damn. I think I’ll never move on from that.
In the third book, Hunter is faced with a meticulous serial killer, a monster who’s targeting young women, their mouths and private parts sewn shut. If you think that’s the end of it, think again. The madness doesn’t end there. Read if you are brave enough.
Scary, sadistic and clever. Easily one of my favourite series....more

What I love about this series, apart from the main characters—were the depths in the killer’s motives. The back stories were realistic and articulately drawn, quite sad in a chilling kind of way, it gives the readers a chance to sympathize to the victims and the killers at the same time. The cliffhangers at the end of every chapter added more excitement and anticipation. That really worked for me.
Also, every crime scene offered different levels of sadism and rage. Only someone with a heart of stone wouldn’t feel unsettled or unaffected by the vivid descriptions of the killings. Scary!
Action-packed, thrilling, heart-pounding and creative! Can’t get enough. On to the next book....more

Robert Hunter is a badass! I love his witty character and his very likeable aura. I’ve read a few detective series for the past year and they’ve all been female leads, so having Hunter on my list is a different ball game.
Hunter is a Homicide Detective investigating a series of brutal murders by the Crucifix Killer. The nature of these crimes were disturbing and savage. Mutilated corpse, tortured and bodies skinned alive were just a few of the inhumane acts on his plate.
Fast-paced, clever and incredibly terrifying. I have read so many police procedural novels and I could say that this is one of the most exciting series out there. The main character was a prodigy, a genius who loves to read and someone with a baggage of his own. A totally lovable guy.
Not reccommended if you want to avoid gruesome scenes but definitely worth the read....more
