It probably should be 5...but, I think it dragged a bit, and perhaps, not all the characters were carefully enough integrated...but it is a wonderful wonderful book. What an amazing description of a somewhat contentious friendship. And wry observations on marriage and parenting. And I loved it. And it was funny. And I loved it. Moriarty is my favorite discovery this year. And get the audio book, because hearing the story read by an Australian is fabulous....more

It is reminiscent of Thomas Perry's series, though it might have come earlier. I was drawn to this series because Buchanan is a journalist and an award winning one. But it felt very cardboard character and situation, and weirdly enough, coming from a woman writer, I really disliked the female characters. Still glad I finally read it....more

I didn't like the victim, and I was annoyed at the protag's deep interest in her. Yes, this is ridiculous on my part. But what I am suggesting is that the author could have used this as an opportunity to talk about bi-polar or whatever issues the wife had. Author didn't, and I just felt like the protag was a sucker. I'm being far too mean about this, but am not certain how else to discuss it. Anyway. I am trying another series by Edwards. We'll see how that goes....more

I'm beginning to see aspects in some of her novels that I don't care too much for, but I read her for the tone, the atmosphere, the relationship between the characters. I like the beginnings of her novels--the mystery is good and interesting. Resolutions, not so much. And that is fine....more
This was a reread because I have misplaced Trial by Fury also by Ferrars. I love her. She creates an atmosphere that I can't quite put my finger on. WhaThis was a reread because I have misplaced Trial by Fury also by Ferrars. I love her. She creates an atmosphere that I can't quite put my finger on. What makes the book relevant to me today is that I am writing a novel. Her main character, a retired professor, is writing a book on famous scientist Robert Hooke. The professor loves going to the library and doing the research, but he also writes daily. What makes him especially interesting is that daily he eliminates as many words as he writes. This is deliberate. He doesn't want to finish. If he were to finish, then what would he do? He loves the writing process. This is so fun to me. Anyway, I now find the need to own every EX Ferrars....more

I still don't like it or completely understand it except that this is a romance and well. Also, not thrilled about the ending in that while it resolved in a good way (to my liking) it seemed to happen too fast. But, I can't give 4 and 1/2 stars to the book that made me realize that Don Tillman is one of my all time favorite characters. I really feel as though I need to study him. I love this series. I love this character. It is brilliant....more
