He tries eating some honey to feel better, but he drops it on the ground. That makes him even more angry! He takes a minute to listen to his feelings. He takes a deep breath, and then starts to feel better.
The text encourages Angry Bear to think carefully about different feelings and find ways to describe what we feel. Then we can think about what will help us to stay calm.
At the back of the book there is a little child-safe mirror, and the text asks the child to demonstrate their angry face and their contented face. This is such a great way to teach children to recognize their emotions and learn to manage them!
I love the cute illustrations of Angry Bear. The art is very expressive!

It would look silly to have a dalmatian polka-dot tail on a fluffy white poodle.
I love the artwork for the all the different puppies. They look so adorable! The text describes the type of tail that each puppy should have, but it will be fun for little readers to "mix it up" on purpose and choose the wrong tail. There is so much potential for giggles in this book! Whether you get the right tail or the mixed-up tail, each puppy is so cute!

At each bus stop, one of the dinosaurs gets off the bus, and we count down to see how many are left. But where is each dinosaur going? There are clues in the illustrations that give us a hint about each dinosaur's activity for the day, and in the end we see them all having fun at the park!
The art work is so cute! I love the adorable dinosaurs. They are each carrying something- a soccer ball, a gym bag, a skateboard, and other items. The reader can guess where they are going based on what they are carrying.
I love the die-cut openings of this book that let us see each dinosaur all the way to the back of the bus. There is even a dinosaur perched on the roof!

Each page is full of colorful photos of animals and objects that begin with the letters of the alphabet.
This is such a cute book! I think that little kids will be excited that they can learn their ABCs and enjoy this book on their own. Kids will be delighted to be "reading" a book by themselves without help!
I like that the sound box at the back has an "on/off" switch, so that you can save the battery. The book has a sturdy design to withstand the destructive forces of little hands.

The villages grA young sapling grows by the river when a family builds their home nearby. Soon there are two villages, one on each side of the river. The villages grow into cities which prosper until war and flooding changes the landscape of the valley. The tree silently watches through ages of time as civilizations come and go and technologies develop and fade.
There is something so peaceful about the continuity of life beyond all the ages of time. The tree sees generations of humans pass by, but remains steadfast through all the changes of each era. You can really feel time passing as the tree grows bigger and stretches its branches.
There are no words to this story, but each little detail in the artwork tells a special story. People get married. Their children grow up. They build houses and tear down what those before them had built. Cultural traditions fade as different traditions spring up. It's the never-ending change that creates a sense of unity.
The artwork is absolutely gorgeous! I love the brushstroke style, and the way light and shadows play across the page. The layout for each scene is so clever. It really gets you immersed in the story, looking for what has changed and what has stayed the same in the different scenes.

They add glitter, stickers, and pretty designs to their eggs. The children dress up in holiday costumes, and they all gather for the big Easter Egg Hunt. Some of the plastic eggs have toys and candy inside. Together the families all enjoy their Easter celebration and have a picnic.
This is such a cute book about making Easter eggs! I love the colorful illustrations and the cute designs. The characters all look so sweet! I think it's cool that they try some alternate food dyes when they color the eggs, like using spinach for green and berries for a blue color. The book also shows little bunnies "hiding" the eggs during the night, but that might have been the dream of the child.
However, I found it odd that a book about a religious holiday didn't even mention the reason for the Easter holiday - the resurrection of Christ! The characters don't go to church or celebrate in any of the traditional ways for this Christian holiday. I guess they only care about the eggs. haha!

Their habitats, their diet, and their life cycle all play a part in how they live a short or long time. We start with the mayfly, which only lives for a few minutes, and go all the way to the immortal jellyfish, which appears to be able to regenerate itself over and over.
We learn about insects, birds, mammals, fish, and whales. There are crocodiles, grizzly bears, elephants, bees, and spiders. There is even a long-lived sponge.
My favorite section was about the Monarch butterfly, because I have actually seen them, millions and millions of them in the mountains of Mexico. I traveled to Michoacan, Mexico when I was a teenager, and visited the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary there. It was magical! Millions and millions of butterflies covering the trees and the ground. If you sat still long enough, they would land all over you. But when you know the full story of how each generation of butterflies make their 3,000 mile journey from Canada to Mexico and back, it becomes even more amazing!
I loved the beautiful art work in this book! Every page is full of gorgeous illustrations of the animals and their natural habitats. It really brings the beauty of nature to life, and highlights just how special these animals are.

It seems like everyone is always taking her snacks, or stealing her spot at the front of the pod. But when Blue shares some tasty seaweed with her, Little Whale thinks that maybe she should respond with a gift too. Little Whale dives into the coral reef, searching for something to share with Blue. A turtle shows her how all the creatures of the coral reef share their shelter and food so that there is enough for everyone. Little Whale returns to the pod and has to learn about sharing her family affections too.
What a sweet book! I love that Little Whale learns a good lesson, but it's also just a fun story. The whale pod are such a close community, and every member of the family from littlest to the biggest is surrounded by love and affection.
The vibrant artwork shows a unique look at the ocean life in a coral reef or a whale pod. The illustrations are beautiful! There are so many little details in the coral reef, and you can see all kinds of tiny fish darting around in the background.

This sweet book goes through all the ways that God loves us more than anything in the world. The text is in rhyme, which is well written. I really like that this book affirms over and over that God is loving and good. This book is like a warm hug of kindness and safety!
The illustrations are adorable and cute! Every page has a different family playing or singing or cooking together. They are of all ages and races, including grandparents and kids. Each scene has animals and a beautiful landscape showing the majesty of God's creation.

She discovers a hidden doorway under her bed that leads to the Moonlight Zoo. A helpful wolf guides her through the different areas of the zoo where lost pets can find refuge. They look through the penguin palace, monkey island, and even the land of the elephants, but Luna is nowhere to be found. Finally they arrive at the Cat Kingdom where cats and tigers and lions and cheetahs are lounging around. And there is Luna, safe and sound! Eva and her pet travel back through the magical doorway under her bed and curl up safely together back at home.
What a magical book! Every page is so enchanting as the story whisks you away to another magical place in the zoo. The animals are wild and beautiful and kind, and Eva gets to run and laugh with them, embracing her own wildness too.
I love that Eva has some kind of hearing device on her ear, and throughout the search for Luna she is listening to hear Luna's purr. The hearing device is never mentioned in the story, but I think it adds a little depth to her character and shows the special connection she has with her pet.
The art work is gorgeous! The colors are so vibrant, and the art is delicate and detailed. I love that some pages have die-cut openings showing a little peek into the magic of the next page. The whole book is bathed in moonlight with cool deep colors.

He loves to run and jump and dive in "feet" first. But sometimes he goes so fast that he doesn't realize that he is causing problems for other shoes. He splashes in puddles and gets his friend wet. He bumps into someone and spills their cupcakes. He gets too excited dancing with Shoezanne Ballerina and gets her ribbons all tangled. He thinks Vincent Van Toe's painting needs more red, so he splashes red paint all over. When High Top meets an old wise shoe named Platoe, he realizes that he hasn't been a very good friend. He apologizes and prepares a special surprise for his friends!
This is such an imaginative story! I love all the shoe puns. It's really funny and teaches a good lesson about slowing down to make sure that others are having fun too.
The illustrations are hilarious, because all the characters are shoes. Some of them have little spindly arms and legs, but some types of shoes use their laces as their arms and hands. The designs are all so different and cute!

At first they have a fairly quiet evening with a small group, but each night more and more animal friends show up for cake and music and talking. It ends up being a lot of noise! Too much for Mole, who longs for some quiet time alone. Mole confides in Beaver, who hatches a plan to make sure Mole can have the alone time she needs to rest and recharge.
I love this sweet story about an introvert needing their alone time! Even extroverts need at least a little bit of quiet to find some rest. It's so lovely that Beaver and the other animals took Mole's needs seriously. They respected her, and didn't take it personally when she needed to spend time away from them. They made room for Mole's needs and that enabled Mole to spend time with her friends on her own terms, so that everyone could enjoy their time together.
I love the beautiful illustrations! The art is so pretty and really brings the story to life. Whether it's a scene of vibrant clamor at a party or the soft quiet of Mole's solitary moments, the art reflects the emotions of the story at each point.

But they aren't able to meet very often, and they wish on a shooting star that they could spend more time together.
This is such a cute book! I love the sweet friendship between Little Owl and Little Rabbit. They are so different, but they find ways to play and connect. They discover that they have a lot in common after all.
The illustrations are so beautiful! The art work is full of magic and enchantment. The moon shines little bits of sparkle down onto the oak tree where the friends live. Every page is warm with autumn leaves and berries. I love the cute designs for the animals too!

They even read it out loud to their pets. One child reads the book backwards! Through all of the different children who borrow the book, they share their love of reading.
This is such a cute book! I love the adorable illustrations, and the fun story. It's so wonderful to think of all sorts of people that you don't know who are reading the same book as you. It connects us through generations and across all cultures.

It hops around and poops and chews on your furniture. What happens when you bring home TWO pet rabbits? They make a lot of little baby rabbits, until your house is overrun with hundreds of rabbits who hop around and poop everywhere!
This family must come up with some ingenious ways to get rid of their surplus of rabbits. Some are given to neighbors. Some are hidden in a magician's hat. Some are "accidentally" left at the botanical garden. But in the end, these rabbits have to go!
This book is hilarious! They have some pretty crazy ways to get rid of the rabbits. They put some as decorations on a Christmas tree. They even leave some rabbits in a ladies underwear department where the rabbits go wild playing with bras and trying on panties! haha! Then they "lose" some of the rabbits gambling at a casino, where they had bet their rabbits instead of using chips.
I love the art style where everything is black and white, except for the bright orange rabbits in every scene. It really makes them stand out, and makes the story even more funny!

When she has to spend a long time in the hospital, she shares the game with her new friends, the doctors, nurses, and other child patients. Eventually Erin is allowed to return home and to school, and she teaches her cloud game to her classmates too. Erin still has to spend some time at the hospital though, and she feels torn between her two groups of friends. Maybe the clouds themselves can point the way to a sense of belonging!
This is such a sweet and thoughtful book! I really felt for Erin as she is dealing with such difficult circumstances. The story is emotional and deals with some tough feelings, but it is also hopeful and full of joy! It's really lovely to see how everyone gathers around Erin to support her.
The illustrations are so cute! I love how the clouds are outlined with shapes of funny animals. The art style is very cool since it combines photos of actual clouds with the illustrations.

Each page is turned horizontally so that you and your friend can sit opposite to each other and try to find Waldo first. Or you can play solo by setting a timer and challenging yourself to find Waldo as quickly as possible.

I used to love these Waldo books when I was a little girl, and the addition of the speed challenge makes it even more special.
There are scenes with Waldo skiing on a snowy mountain, fighting off dragons, wandering a hall of clocks, prospecting for gold, in the middle of a food fight, playing in a band, and running away from dinosaurs. There is even a scene in the "Land of Waldos" which is full of Waldo look-alikes dressed in all different colors!

It bothers him so much that he can't sleep thinking about how small he is compared to the stars. His dad takes him on a camping trip and they sleep out under the stars. Suddenly the universe doesn't feel so strange or distant. If you name the stars, they can become friends.
What a sweet book! I can definitely relate to feeling small in a big universe. I loved the gentle family in this book. The boy and his dad have a special relationship, and they are all so loving and generous.
The writing has a soft cadence that creates a peaceful atmosphere for the story. The boy contemplates his place in the universe, and his family help him to find that place and feel comfortable.
The art work is absolutely beautiful! I love the watercolor style and the lovely colors. The illustrations perfectly reflect the thoughtfulness of the story. Such a delight!

The whale shark is the biggest fish in the sea!
I love the simple artwork for each animal, and I like that the background on the pages is a plain color with no design behind the animal. That makes the animal really stand out!
The pop-ups are cleverly designed so that the animals look like they are jumping off the page. The best thing about the pop-ups is that you can make the animals move by moving the page!
What a great way to learn about endangered animals!
