For me though, it’s a bit of a data dump (some are indeed interesting and insightful), but ultimately a bit too biased in my opinion. The author has a thesis to make (that, surprise, the future is Asian), and almost always chose the most favorable evidence to support his view. If Hans Rosling were to review this book, he would point out that it suffered from the "Single Perspective instinct". The fundamental issues in favor of democracy such as freedom of speech, sophisticated capital market, robust legal system, human rights, etc. are thinly covered (if at all). The chapter about the system of technocratic government is particularly interesting though as it inspired me to learn more about the success case study of Singapore....more
