He takes it home just to find it within his son's grasp and a corner of it with 3 stones missing. Holmes, with his meticulous sense of detail leaves no stone unturned in his quest to find out what really happened with the Coronet. This short story really hits on the greatness of Sherlock Holmes and why he had so many fans. Probably one of the best short stories I've read....more

This is the first time I'veI had a friend suggest this quick read from Facebook, and when she told me it was free on Messenger, I had to check it out. This is the first time I've read a book through a messaging platform which was really quite fun. Patterson inserted video clips of the characters interactions, maps, photos, files. It was a clever concept. The downfall to this platform is that sometimes the Messenger does not respond quick enough at times, leaving you waiting anywhere from 15 seconds to five minutes for the next segment. The story was a good one. Former police officer Caleb Rooney is now a chef for his food truck business called Killer Chef, but his background as a police officer winds him up investigating a terror plot during Mardi Gras in New Orleans. The location of this was very familiar to me because I have been to New Orleans a few times (I live about an hour away) so it made it more interesting to know the places Patterson mentioned in his book (including the restaurant Dooky Chase). It's a short and action-packed story that any Patterson fan would enjoy. Check out the platform on Messenger through Facebook. It's free!!...more

The reaI liked the style of writing on this, it kept me turning the pages. The reason for the 3 stars is because there was still questions unanswered. The reader is brought into the story with the main character becoming a fugitive after she finds her dead husband at the bottom of the stairs. She clearly states that she didn't do it. The story then proceeds on very much like Thelma and Louise, all the while our main character has changed her name and appearance several times over. The final couple of chapters gives us some light as to who she is and why she's running but still leaves the question of the husband unanswered. The reader is led to believe she was maybe in an abusive situation and this was her escape, but again, we will never know....more

This is not your typical mystery like Sherlock Holmes or Hercule Poirot. Fast-forward to the 21st century where kids and adults get into role-playing games on-line, dress in ridiculous costumes to attend a gaming convention, and spend ridiculous amounts of money on mythical weapons. BUT...the weapon is stolen and the gamer is later found dead. So, to investigate this crazy mystery you hire a down-on-her-luck sucker to find this stolen weapon and perhaps solve the murder as well. The story doesn't really give you any telling hints as to who it could be that committed the crimes which would have possibly given this my 5 star rating. A good mystery peppers little hints as to who the culprits could be and leaving you to try and solve the crime yourself as you read along. Nope, it just comes out in the end. This is a quick and quirky read (Q words are so cool) and if you like light-hearted mysteries, this is a great one to pick up....more

This book was so difficult to get through because it was so hard to follow. Things that I found wrong were that there were so many characters to keep up with and so many different story lines that I frequently had to go back and check myself. It also seemed forced when it came to incorporating a horror feel to it. It fell flat. Not a series I plan to get too deep into....more

The great thing I enjoyed the most about this book is the flawed main character, Genevieve Lenard. She has a form of autism that really makes her an interesting character. Young artists are coming up dead with strips of actual paintings placed with their bodies. This one is about Gauguin's Still Life painting that has been forged. The young, aspiring artists are forced to replicate these fine art pieces and are then killed. Along with a couple of criminal art thieves, Genevieve must find out who is doing these killings and forgeries before more artists lose their lives....more

I was deeply enthralled with this book and finding out who the killer was, but the book was littered with characters that were poorly developed that it was difficult to keep up with them all. On top of that, there seemed to be a lot of side stories in this that made the main topic hard to focus on. One minute I'm eager to find out who killed the girl, when another girl is missing, then a cop kills himself, then the back story of Roland's child's death, then some drugs get uncovered. It's a lot to take in. A good mystery that would have been better without all the other stuff going on. ...more
