This book explores the icon’s larger than life presence and inspires readers to live as boldly as she did. This book also reveals stories from Frida’s personal life and reveals all of the obstacles the artist had to overcome.
Not only did I find this book awe inspiring but I fell in love with the quotes and illustrations in this book. From fashion, confidence, heartbreak, sex, identity and everything in between this book covers advice on every topic that today's woman goes through.
As much as I enjoyed this book as a grown woman, I feel like this book would also be perfect to inspire young women. This book would make a perfect gift!

After Kimberly and her husband decide to get a divorce they make the decision to live in the same home together but as single people. Kimberly Harrington reflects on how the couple lived together but separately, and how they raised their children together as a united family.
I am a seasoned veteran when it comes to long-term relationships. I've been with the same person the majority of my life (married for 16 years) and even though we are still together, I still found this book very relatable. I feel like this book would be relatable to anyone that's ever been in a long-term relationship(married or not).
But You Seemed So Happy is one of the most honest nonfiction books about relationships that I've ever read. Not only does this book uncover the raw truths of marriage/relationships but it is absolutely hilarious! Filled with dark satire, I found myself laughing out loud at several points.
I loved reading about Kimberly and her family's journey. I enjoyed reading how they made something positive out of a negative situation. I would highly recommend this book for anyone looking for a nonfiction story that's highly relateable(no matter what season your relationship is in). I look forward to reading anything that Kimberly Harrington writes in the future.

This book tells a very shocking and dark tale on one of the world's most well known universities. Filled with some shocking truths about misogyny, and long-kept secrets from prestigious institutions.
Not only is this book filled with some of the best investigative reporting I've ever read, but it also contains photos of the people and places mentioned in the book but also a huge section of the author's sources.
The ending wrapped up perfectly with some surprising revelations. This book is one of the best true crime stories that I've ever read. Becky Cooper did such am excellent job writing this one and I will definitely read anything she writes next. Many thanks to Grand Central Publishing for the gifted copy! ...more

Jose was responsible for dozens of murders across California’s farmlands in the central valley. For 34 years he terrorized so many people. On the outside, Jose appeared to be your everyday family man and mechanic so he was able to fly under the police's radar. This book informs readers how the American justice system failed our country’s most vulnerable population, the immigrant community.
Unlike a lot of true crime books that focus primarily on the killer, The Devil’s Harvest prioritizes the victims who are usually completely ignored. This book also highlights the horrible working conditions that these immigrants go through working on farms such as being sprayed with pesticides and not having any clean drinking water. This book also highlights how the police did absolutely nothing to help these poor people. Also in this book are chilling journal entries written by Jose Martinez.
This book speaks on so many issues about race and class in America today. I feel these subjects are so important and should be brought to the public light. I highly recommend this book to all true crime fans and for readers of social injustices. If you liked I’ll Be Gone In The Dark by Michelle McNamara or Killers Of The Flower Moon by David Grann then you will definitely like The Devil’s Harvest.

Back in 1860, Elizabeth Packard a loving mother and wife of 6 children, was ripped from her life and taken away to a mental asylum all because she disagreed with her husband's views and opinions. Elizabeth ended up being wrongfully incarcerated for years in the Illinois State Hospital for the insane. During her time in the hospital, Elizabeth observed that many women in the hospital were not insane but instead they were forced there by their husbands just like her. Elizabeth also observed abusive treatment to these women by hospital staff.
After years of wrongful incarceration, Elizabeth fought back. She published books, pamphlets, met with government officials to spread awareness and stop the abuse of these women. Day and night she fought for the rights of these women.
Opposed were her husband Theophilus who admitted her to the hospital based on lies, the mental asylums doctor Andrew Mcfarland, as well as newspapers and groups of men who profited from the hospital.
The big question is who will win?
Wow. I was absolutely blown away by this book. Elizabeth Packard was such an important force to the women's rights movement! I can't believe that her story is not more well known to the public. Kate Moore did a phenomenal job writing and extensively researching this important event in history. ...more

I am always looking for ways to educate myself on the struggles of persons different than myself. I always want to find ways to advocate and ally myself to black people in my workplace.
After reading Twice As Hard I feel that a lot of minority groups would find this book useful. There is a section of this book for people who are not black which I found very interesting.
I highly recommend this book for anyone who in the “buisness” world. I feel as if this book would also highly benefit white persons to view the struggles black people go through and how to ally yourself with them. Books like this is our world needs more of!...more

Most of the time when selecting a book to read, I look for something entertaining. But occasionally I need something deep, profound, and moving, The Beauty in Breaking is one of these.
The Beauty in Breaking is a nonfiction novel by Michele Harper. Michele is an African American female who works as an emergency room doctor. She recalls her journey that leads to becoming a healer and in each chapter, she writes about a patient that she has learned a life lesson. She also speaks on the raw truth about how she has experienced both racism and misogyny in her profession.
Health care workers truly are modern-day heroes. Michele is such an inspiration. I learned so many things from reading her story. One of the major things I took away from this book is not only the resilience of the human spirit but the beauty in it.
I've been fortunate enough to find some amazing nonfiction reads lately and The Beauty in Breaking is one of them. Not only is it simply amazing, but I also had to add it to my list of favorite nonfiction books of all time!
I highly recommend The Beauty in Breaking to anyone looking for a nonfiction book by a strong and inspiring female. Many thanks to Riverhead Books for the gifted copy! ...more
