UGH this one is so hard for me to“Do with me as you will, sorceress. And I will be at your feet, thanking you for whatever you decide.”
*2.5 stars*
UGH this one is so hard for me to rate. There were some aspects of the story that I really liked but I really had to push myself to finish this as I thought it was way too long.
The set-up for this story is that we have the demon Lust, the embodiment of that deadly sin. He rules the kingdom where this story is set. Selene is a sorceress who can bury all emotion and thus is unaffected by Lust's power. She is sent to intrigue Lust so that the sorceresses can gain power in the kingdom.
The good: Lust and Selene had a really unique dynamic. Lust is a bisexual king who appeals to both men and women and wears corsets. Selene has a cold and unfeeling appearance which draws Lust in, as he has grown bored with affecting everyone with his powers. Over the course of the novel, their feelings develop and Lust starts to realize that what he has been missing is ~love~. Selene is dragged along for the ride as she is always denying her feelings. The character dynamics were the strongest part of this novel for me.
The bad: oof okay. Do you ever read something and you can see that the plot points are happening just to happen and it makes no sense WHY these things are occurring? Everything with the sorceresses just felt so one dimensional and it just felt like these things were happening but I really didn't get it. The overall plot of this book was just lost. It was way too long and just dragged because the story focused so much on Lust and Selene's dynamic without developing anything else. For me, that just made this reading experience a slog.
Overall, I do not think I will be continuing with this series. ...more

Slaying the Shadow Prince takes place in the Legends of Thezmarr universe. These characters are mentioned in passing in the other series, and I was excited to learn more about their story! I do think this installment is going to figure pretty heavily into the series in later books.
I loved the dynamic between Tal and Drue. They were reluctant allies who had to team up against the wraiths, and seeing them coming to care for one another starting at a place of contempt was the focal point of the novel for me. We also get a peek at the dynamic between Tal and Wilder before the start of the main series. This was a fun, adventure and love story within the larger scope of the epic series, and I loved getting to read from the POVs of some new characters.
This book does a good job of introducing the world to new readers so it’s not necessary to read the main series before hand! I have heard the author recommend reading it after Blood & Steel and before Vows & Ruin if you want the official way. I read it after the second book and still had a good experience!! ...more

Oh my gosh, this was SUCH an amazing fantasy romance! Thea is a girl who wants to become a warrior in a world where women are not allowed steel due to a prophecy. She is also fated to die at the age of 27, and only has a few years to achieve her goals. Yet she is tenacious and fights for her right to train. I absolutely loved how fierce and resolute she was towards becoming a warrior. Her found family within the training grounds was so good. AND THEN YOU ADD IN WILDER. Oh my gosh, their dynamic was so good. At first, he really wants nothing to do with Thea or Thezmarr, but he keeps getting drawn into her orbit. They definitely start out as adversaries and I loved watching their relationship progress.
The world is so richly built. This is truly an epic high fantasy with romance and spice. Basically a mix of everything I love?? I flew through this because I loved it so, so much!!!...more

Review: WOW this boo"Her existence in my curse, and her death is the only remedy."
First Thoughts: THINGS SHE DID: THAT. ENDING. IM SCREAMING
Review: WOW this book was such a journey and so unique! We follow Gwyn, who is the daughter of a famous vampire hunter, but seemingly unaware of this fact about her family. Roman, a vampire whose own mother was murdered by Gwyn's father, is set on getting his vengeance against her family. What starts out as a mission for revenge soon spirals into something different as Gwyn and Roman find themselves drawn to each other despite of their dire circumstances.
This book will play with your emotions like no other! As always, the writing is sharp and story-telling very clear. I loved the dual perspective as we see Roman and Gwyn falling deeper into each other as the novel progresses. The urban paranormal world was gritty and dark and wasn't afraid to pull punches.
Gwyn is a plus-sized heroine and completely confident in her body. Roman is also husky, and I loved the way each character talked about their own bodies (as well as each other's haha). The spice is definitely fast burn, and SO GOOD, but yet still serves a purpose in the plot. I thought this book was brilliant!!!
