Although it is not perfect, it is definitely very promising.
✅ THIS NEW WORLD and the magic system in it is so elaborate and well thought out. I love all the different realms, their unique magical abilities, and the dynamic between the Descended and the Humans is very well-written too.
This book had its ups and downs. I think it’s pretty solidly in the middle for me, but probably leaning closer to 2 stars.

✅ I LIKED IRIS as a character - I thought she was unique enough for an FMC in a romance novel. I liked how she stood up for herself and for Declan, and I just liked that she was generally very sweet and confident with herself.
❌ I’M KIND OF BORED of the ‘assistance+executive’ trope… I feel like it’s very rare to find this trope done where it actually feels unique and goes off-script enough to keep it interesting.
I’m trying to get back into the fantasy-romance kindle unlimited groove and randomly picked this one up. It was okay. Definitely not a new favorite. II’m trying to get back into the fantasy-romance kindle unlimited groove and randomly picked this one up. It was okay. Definitely not a new favorite. I’m very torn between 2 and 3 stars, but for now I’ll go with 3 since I do think some aspects of the book were very well done
❌ FALLON WAS NOT my favorite main character… in fact, she might be one of my least favorite female MC’s ever. I just could not relate to a single thing she did. At first, she bothered me because of her naive outlook on love and her relationship with Dante. And then later in the book, when she tried developing a backbone, she bothered me because she felt like a moody and insolent teenager with the way she kept talking back and having sass while still being a big ditz.

✅ STILL A VERY EXCITING story and Stacey Marie Brown definitely knows how to keep me reading. We start to learn a lot more about this world and the secrets people were holding but there’s still a lot of unknowns to keep you guessing.

I generally like my romances, including reverse harem, to have a bit more slow burn - but since this is a standalone and there are three love interests... you can probably imagine that they get down to business pretty quickly ...more

✅ THE BANTER was seriously top-notch in this. It was like enemies-to-lovers on steroids (even though they weren't really "enemies") and constant flirting/sexual tension. If you're looking for something with a ton of banter then this is definitely it!
❌ ONE THING THAT wasn't my favorite was the almost constant dirty-talk. On one hand, it was funny because they were seriously so blunt about what they wanted to do to each other, but it was almost constant throughout the entire book and just a bit too much for what I enjoy.
