My advice to Whitney G. would be to read her earlier books and plagiarize them at this point. Like what’s going on? Swear I used to like some of her stuff. Anywho, I could go on an on about how absolutely nothing in this book made sense, how the nearly 20 year age gap was never brought up, how the sex scenes were so fucking random with no build up, how inappropriate and shit at her job Harlow was and how equally inappropriate and shit at being a boss Pierce was but honestly I’m just super glad this book is over and I never have to think about it again and it doesn’t even deserve anymore thoughts from me so bye!...more

This was really cute and wintery, just what I was in the mood for. It’s only out on audiobook right now, but luckily my library has it and it made for an enjoyable, quick listen while doing chores. The humor in this was dry and whacky, but in a way that I like. I read and loved Katie Reus’ dragon series 6+ years ago but have tried other stuff of hers since then that was hit or miss. I’m happy to say this was a fast, easy, fun read with a tiny bit of Christmas sprinkled in and I enjoyed it! It was still fun and wacky as usual, but it didn’t quite get taken to where I hoped it would. The premise of this book was really interesting with Yazmin’s mental illness, but it didn’t quite deliver. I also found the writing not as good at times, big events would happen and then the chapter would be like “this person being pregnant is actually a blessing” and I’m like wait I mean we kinda thought but we never knew and that would’ve been fun to be there for the news breaking so wtf. Still liked it though and I’ll probably keep going with this series, but the next books/couples were not seeded/hyped as well as these past two were....more

This rating is too high, but listen, I’m just rating on vibes atm. Bijou Hunter has such a unique writing style and characters and I don’t think it works for everyone, but I love the quirkiness and unreality to her characters and how they behave and talk. This had a single dad, motorcycle club president and a woman running from an abusive ex husband with no real life skills or knowledge of how the world works. The instalove and ridiculous actions of the characters really worked for me. I enjoyed this read a lot and couldn’t wait to read about Selene’s sister, Yazmin, who’s story was heavily hinted at, but I see the next book is for different characters who also had their story set up and I’m also very intrigued by, however, this series ends after that one ...more

I flew through the first two books which also weren’t great but they were fun and it was nice to want to read all the time again. However, once she started getting with the boys in book 3 it became less interesting somehow. I just feel like the relationship progression was really bad. I kept reading basically to see how it all worked out but I wasn’t enthused anymore and the resolution was lack luster. She’s barely spoken to Tristan for like 2 books now, Windsor was such a random addition to the harem and even by the end she still barely knows him and their relationship still makes the least sense of them all. I just wanted more. Their dynamics as a group and why they’re obsessed with her individually don’t make sense, I wanted more of the 6 of them together and we never got that.
The bullying drama was lame. The Charlie situation which has been draaaagged out and it sucked. Same with the Lizzie situation…such a random story arc and the Myron thing...huh. The writing just isn’t good, soz. There was shit Marnye learned last book that she was acting like was new info this book, just lazy stuff. Now I basically just have to read the last book to see wtf happens but I’m not all that excited after this one. We finally have some relationship progress but it’s all very stilted and secretive and random who she gets with and doesn’t. She’ll sleep with someone because they invited her on a date but then no one else takes that initiative even though she literally spelled it out. Her girl best friend is in love with her and I thought this harem was getting real wild but psych she’s not into girls so that just felt really random and annoying. Like does absolutely everyone have to be in love with her? What she already has going on doesn’t make any sense, let’s chill. Also the bullying is at an all time low lol. The girls are supposedly a threat but it’s all very calm and chill except for like one random thing here or there that goes nowhere. Boring. I also hate the pacing of these books, scenes just end right in the middle of good stuff and pick up days or weeks later.
Pet peeve/rant, but I hatttte these prologues. Just started book 4 and finally skipped it because idk as someone who generally doesn’t like prologues I’m not an expert, but I feel like they’re usually not just the last few pages of the book you’re reading? It can be an excerpt from a crazy moment later on but every time it’s literally just the end of the book. If I wanted to be one of those freaks who reads the last few pages of the book before I starting them I’d just do that (sorry to all you freaks but wtf lol), but I don’t like spoilers. These “prologues” suck. Anyway I could rant about these books forever, they’re kinda entertaining but not well written and totally insane but somehow I’m addicted and actually spending all my free moments reading again so can’t be too mad. Excited to be done though because my interest is really fading ...more

I loved the single dad aspect and the cute kids, they were very involved in the beginning then barely got any page time by the middle though which was too bad. There were some very cliche and cringey lines/moments that I didn’t love. I also didn’t like the direction Skylar took professionally and I have no idea why her dad and agent weren’t fired for their first egregious offenses that start the book. Very strange. Anyway I wish more of a compromise could’ve been found for her career, but in the end I did like her and West’s relationship a lot and the kids were too cute so still an enjoyable read...more

I was going to round up to 3 stars, but honestly this wasn’t great and I’m not feeling it.
The idea of a human crash landing on an unwelcoming alien planet and owing a debt to an alien whose hates humans for good reason was a fun premise, but it was poorly executed. I always kind of bemoan this author for ending her books before we reach the alien planets, but maybe that was a blessing in disguise because based off this one she doesn’t have the world building skills to make it interesting…sorry. A whole planet with various alien races, politics, leaders, cities, a way of life, etc seemed to be too big a scope for her and she just did the bare minimum and nothing felt fleshed out or real. There were also just some bad writing things and stuff that didn’t make sense that I’m not used to from her. As usual, the alien hero was very alien and I’m cool with that, but I didn’t super believe in their attraction and eventual love for each other as I have in her other books. Sigh. This was short and somewhat entertaining, but not memorable and I definitely could’ve skipped it.

I liked the first half of this book better than the second. As usual Olivia Riley’s aliens are very alien, but I like that. The build up was more fun for me than the aftermath. I found Ria’s reluctance to trust Draka exhausting especially since he’d never given her one reason not to trust him and actually had shown time and time again he had her best interests in mind. Also I found the blurb misleading with the whole “hunting her across the mountain” thing…that kind of happens at 80% for like one second but the first time she runs from him it’s successful lol and not like the blurb… anyway I was just expecting something a little darker and this ain’t dark at.all. The way she evades his capture was cute, but I would’ve preferred a more standard forced proximity captured by an alien situation. Draka is sensitive and sweet and had barely any “king of the mountain” on an ice prison planet vibes...he kills one dude and not even in a violent way so ...more
