I also decided to read Teagan Hunters short in this and it was better which isn’t saying much. Inoffensive, much better holiday novellas out there though…

This was really cute and wintery, just what I was in the mood for. It’s only out on audiobook right now, but luckily my library has it and it made for an enjoyable, quick listen while doing chores. This was really cute, but took me longer to finish than it should have mostly because I was getting distracted by other audiobooks (normally I don’t read more than one book at a time). This had a lot going on: sunshine(H)/grumpy(h) slash grinch because she doesn’t like Christmas, a bomb expert meets hitman next door, mutual stalking more so on her part with voyeurism, instalove like you would not believe, murder and more murder, a cute niece, cute family members who are also mostly hitmen, Christmas decor, etc.
The humor in this was dry and whacky, but in a way that I like. I read and loved Katie Reus’ dragon series 6+ years ago but have tried other stuff of hers since then that was hit or miss. I’m happy to say this was a fast, easy, fun read with a tiny bit of Christmas sprinkled in and I enjoyed it! Just what I wanted and I’ll definitely be checking out book 2 which released this year and stars the H’s sister and friend from this novella....more

Novellas are hard to get right because you have to squeeze a fully developed story into a shorter page count and this one didn't totally work for me.
I found the set up weird because we're dropped into the story after the characters have been broken up for 2 months and they had only been dating for 3 months before that. *Spoilers* Pre-break up they were essentially living together, he was planning to propose and already bought a ring, but when she broke up with him he didn't go to extreme lengths to really figure out why and she didn't tell him the real reason which she acknowledges later was dumb. So it was very insta-love which I can be on board with, but I didn't believe in their love because we didn't see the build up we were just told how they felt about each other.
I spent the beginning of this book just confused about why they broke up, what the hell was going on, etc. The plot was trying to be very mysterious with hidden enemies, but it was pretty obvious to me who the big bad was.
Idk like I said this was fine for a quick read, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it. I just picked it up to because a novella was the perfect length to read today before a new release I'd been waiting for came out at midnight

Didn’t love this one…I was looking for a short-ish audiobook on hoopla and landed on this one mostly because I wanted to give a holiday book a chance. Unfortunately, I just found this pretty boring, the main character unlikeable and the romance extremely lackluster with no tension or buildup. There are a ton of townsfolk added in to spice things up but I just found it all very cliche and predictable. The main character I found to be pretty stuck up and annoying. More than one person said to her “I don’t understand what an amazing person like you is doing in a hick town like this”… I didn’t even like the main characters dog, pumpkin, because in the audiobook it’s always pronounced “pun-kin” and idk why cause she’s not from the south so it was just annoying ...more

They're both in relationships with awful people and like randomly/not super openly but like also very openly attracted to each other and act on it a little once/essentially cheat on their significant others...so I was just not into it at all.
I do find her wacky h's to be kind of endearing and funny sometimes and this one with her OTT behavior was amusing but also a little too ridiculous with no grounding or real basis for her outlandish behavior.
Then like the last thing I’ll say is that the H has the worst, sleaziest "best friend" ever. And he’s who is essential for the setup of the billionaire ending up as the replacement for her fake date from an app which is just all so ridiculous and dumb that that’s how they finally spend time together again?
Oh and actually, what’s the ending? How is the billionaire living in Colorado now? No explanation, but whatevs it’s a short nonsense Christmas novella…details irrelevant I guess...more
