Then we had kids. He changed jobs and our kids were small. I didn’t read as much either, but still made time and as they grew up I found I had more time.
He didn’t read so much, until recently, when he purchased “Exhalation”. We decided to read it together. Then he had me choose a book.
We’ve decided to start co-reading. And this book was an auspicious start, as we both enjoyed it very much. It deals purely with sci-fi and sci-fi adjacent themes, much as Lucia Berlin (a new fave, who I hope to introduce to my hubby) deals with a certain time and place. ...more

She reads like Flannery O’Connor, but with more sympathy for her characters, and wow, her prose is gorgeous. Some of her turns of phrase made me gasp. I saw myself in one story in particular, so much so that I shed tears, and then later, I was laughing like crazy.
