The first book was awesome, so I was really looking forward to this one. But it surprised me even more! I loved the mystery of what could have happened to Sarah...Lucy is such a likeable character, you feel as if you have known her your whole life. Maybe even visited the cottage a time or two.
Lucy really likes Sean the PI guy renting the 3rd floor of the Valentine Inc building. But will they be able to break Cupid's Curse or will Lucy be destined to spend her life alone.
Add in Lucy's parents who have not lived with each other in many years but pretend to for the sake of the company. I mean who would go to a matchmaker if their own relationship didn't matter?
Added in the mix are Lucy's hilarious friends and maybe a new one that knows a huge secret!
This story had me thanking our wonderful author for such an entertaining read! I am sooo ready for Absolutely, Positively -- Roll on Feb!...more

Nora has been left with nothing when her husband has commited suicide. So she tries to make a go of it on the only thing she has left, the farm. Nora is a city girl but can adapt anywhere. However she will be in for a suprise when she finds out exactly who C.W. is.
All the characters were likeable and easy to read. Mary Alice Monroe always writes with such ease and I enjoy each one of her books I read. I wasn't aware that this book is a different title of one already released but that is ok with me!
I wish there would have been more of a mystery as to who set up Nora's husband, Mike, but still the journey to see how it all unfolded was good. Find out if Nora makes in in the country. You will really want to know how she finds out who C.W. really is, that is one to NOT miss!...more

It all starts This book was just too funny and enjoyable! This is what reading is all about. I had a lot of laughs, loved the mystery and the romance.
It all starts when Jill's husband is caught cheating on her, takes her place at the firm they both work at and she comes home for the summer to live with her aunt Bev. A small firm in her hometown of Los Lobos has a position as the owner had passed away a couple of months ago provides a distraction for Jill while getting herself together and sending out her resume to somewhere she would rather be. Or so it seems to Jill anyway.
However her old high school crush Mac has just moved back as well. Surprise surprise he lives right next door. Mac has his own struggles but will Jill and Mac fall in love in the midst of all the goings-on. Or will it only be a summer thing because there are law firms wanting Jill all over the place, even the old firm she was fired from!
What adds to it is Rudy, who s a client of Jill's has come to town. Although it is a mystery if Rudy is really a good guy or a bad guy. Everyone has their own opinion though! When Rudy and Bev meet though that complicates things.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I will recommend it to others that like to read romance and a laugh out loud book! It won't be my last Susan Mallery book that is for sure!!!!...more

WhenWhen I read the blurb about this book, I thought this goes on every day, really we don't think of the consequences, just how we feel at the time. When Richie Rossiter suddenly passes away, he leaves not just one family reeling in his death, but 2. That's right, he has a wife and a son that he left but never divorced. Now he has another family, Chrissie and 3 girls. The girls never knew their parents weren't married though. Chrissie basically has been dependent on Richie for money, managing his career as a musician but now what will she do that he is gone?
Out of all the characters I enjoyed Amy and Margaret the most. Chrissie came around but the older 2 girls were spoiled brats and very unlikeable. I can imagine, it is easier to get married at Margaret than at Richie, that is why they take so much of their anger out on her. None of the girls really wanted to leave Chrissie, they all felt like they had to stay and take care of her. Does Chrissie feel that they should though? Or should they all move on with their own lives?
Amy is the first to break out, bravo Amy!!! Sue is a wonderful character as well. She is a true friend, saying it whether it wanted to be said or not. We all need a Sue in our lives....more

I enjoyed the message which basically is it doesn't matter who raises the kids, all the jobs are important but they go hand in hand. It isn't just the moms who are important it is the dads too. This life is one big puzzle and we need all the pieces.
However the affairs and the way the kids were just pushed through the book really didn't catch my fancy too much. Maybe this book is just too modern for me. I didn't think I would get through it, I made it halfway and thought this isn't bad and then the last 30 pages I wanted to scream enough already. Half the words seemed like nonsense to me.
No one really had any depth to them, because if they did, they wouldn't be in those situations! All the guys except for Lance were painted as jerks, which today's society says they are if they go out and work for a living they are like cavemen. Which isn't true.
My review seems a bit harsh but I couldn't give a everything-is-awesome in this book. I am relieved it is over and I can move on to other things! ...more

We have a husband and wife who don't seem to really care for each other. They have just put up with one another, who knows why really. Gary really just wants to live by himself, I don't know why he didn't just say that, although I think it would have about killed Irene. They have 2 grown children, Mark and Rhoda. Rhoda is living with a welloff dentist, Jim. Jim meets Monique who is the girlfriend of Carl, who is friends with Mark. Mark is a pothead, which I really didn't care for. Mark and his girlfriend Karen really added another element of distraction to the story. I disliked those two the most, next to Jim. So Jim meets Monique and has an affair with her, which Carl finds out about.
Gary is building a cabin on Caribou Island for him and Irene to live in. He has no specific details set, is just going to wing it. When they start taking logs out there the weather is bad and Irene ends up getting sick, and a severe headache. They go back and forth like this when it all comes to a head.
This book I agree, was like a train wreck. You can't help but find out, but I found myself skimming pages on the last 20, I just couldn't take any more.....more

We have 2 friends who's families have been close since they were little. In a long drawn out story you find out that Mal and Nova are inseperable. They have never been boyfriend and girlfriend but that is in part due to the fact that both of them thought neither was interested.
So when Mal finds Stephanie and wants Nova to meet her, Nova tries to be the best friend she can and let Stephanie know she is no threat to her. However, Stephanie has issues of her own. In a web of lies she has chosen to create, it spins out of control. Mal and Stephanie had asked Nova to have a baby for them and when Stephanie gives Mal the ultimatium of either her or Nova and the baby, Mal decides one of them that will have disastrous consquences.
On the other hand, the story flipped back and forth so much that I had a hard time sometimes telling who was talking and I would have to re-read what I read to get it. But I wouldn't say it was the downfall of the book for me. Just something I had a hard time getting my mind on.
One of the biggest things when reading a book to me is the title. Does the title have anything to do with the book? And the answer this time is YES! Those words have a lot to do with the book, in fact one of the major turns in the book is because of those words. So on that note, you will enjoy this book!
Grab a box of kleenex if you are a mom especially because this one is a mother's worst nightmare if you ask me! However, you won't want to miss out!

Our main character Maggie feels as if there is nothing more in this life for her, so she has planned her own death. She gives away her clothes, closes her bank account; has basically everything all planned out. But one thing after another keeps happening so she has to delay her death.
All the characters are just fabulous and so full of life you can't help but chuckle outloud throughout the book! I really wanted to get more in depth in what happened between Maggie and Charles though but it never did. That didn't take away from the book though. Brenda is a real hoot - her and her ice cream and sweets.. too funny! Ethel, her purple hair and all, what an image in my mind! I sure did love all the memories of Hazel though!
Fannie's books always have women in such a wonderful bold scene -- very awesome to read!
Every time Maggie gets ready to go down to the river and then something happens to delay her, I think God is speaking to her. What made this book even better is the bit of mystery about what they find in the trunk in the attic at Crestview! Nothing like a good little mystery hidden deep in a wonderful book like this!
Perfect book to read this holiday season all warm and toasty inside -- Enjoy! Fannie Flagg is worth the wait!...more
I enjoyed this book. Right away the title is great! I love books about women and friendships. The author definetly has a story to tell.
My one complainI enjoyed this book. Right away the title is great! I love books about women and friendships. The author definetly has a story to tell.
My one complaint is, she has so much to tell she tried to fit it all in one book! This book has way too many details. Could have been refined a bit more. At times, there were sentences or whole pages that could have been left out.
Sometimes too many details left my mind wandering and not with the story. I also felt as if the friendships were superficial and not very deep, but maybe living over there you are too busy worrying about day to day living and being safe vs the things we think and worry about over here!
On the other side, this book really makes you open your eyes to the way other parts of our world live and how we take advantage of our lives here in the US. The love and traditions and who you can marry, when, why and with who's blessings, something I never knew.
This author has talent and I am sure as time goes it it will get more and more refined. This book would have been better without so many details though!...more

She gets better and better as the years go on. I loved In the Company of Others. There are so many passages I would like to quote. I agree with Ms Karon, this is her finest yet. Beautiful scenery depicted to us. Tim and Cynthia have one of the most wonderful blessed relationships and I long to be like them. What a wonderful model for us all.
The whole mystery of who was in the cabinet, who stole the painting, just brilliant! I loved the journal writing. I couldn't wait for them to open it every time! There wasn't a character I didn't like. I think it is somehow how Ms Karon writes that all the characters just come, and I don't confused when she introduces us to that many somehow.
Then there is Bella, a young woman, feeling so many different things, as teenagers tend to do. What a beautiful picture of God's grace and mercy. The same can also be said for Evie, or Evelyn. No matter what you do, or how much you think you are in control, God is the one and only.
If you weren't in tears or deeply moved by this book, I am sorry you missed the boat.
I don't mind waiting 3 years for a book like this. It will stay with me forever. Thank you Ms Karon, you are a true blessing to this follower....more

Annabelle is on her fifth season of trying to get a husband to secure her future as well as her families, especially since her father passed away. So when her and her brother run into the disgusting Simon Hunt, Annabelle makes it seem like she isn't impressed. He doesn't act like a peer, he acts a bit like an animal, not as refined as she is used to. When he pays for her and her brother to get into the exhibit, and then in the dark takes her and kisses her by surprise, Annabelle is even more shaken. How could she have possibly liked it?
But that thought must be put aside because she must attend the 2 week party at Lord Westcliff's house. There is one opportunity the Wallflowers have decided for Annabelle at the party. Lord Randall. A bit dull but a good catch none the less.

Our lady of the day, Jill, is a single mother of a 10 year old girl. Her husband snuck out one night seven years ago and left them, with just a note.
So Jill makes her money by doing a class at the community center and answering phones for GGG, Great Girlfriend Getaways. Both she can do at home or during the day when her daughter is in school.
However, after one of her classes at the community center, her "husband" is there waiting for her. Jill is confused, should she let him back into their lives, or even just her daughter for that matter. Jill will kill him if he breaks his daughter's heart yet again.
But Jill has a client that she has been helping to get prepared to sell bicycles to rent over in Japan, and they have gone on a few dates.
So what should she do, get back with the husband or move on? It will become all too clear to Jill but you will enjoy the ride --

Not my usual type of book but I am so glad I read it. Bad news to read it on a night when I would be at the house by myself though. I wanted to close all the blinds, I felt as if I was Patrick at times.
It all starts one morning when Patrick goes to get the newspaper and finds a cd in it, a few seconds of someone spying on him while he was using the restroom. Then over the next 18 hours he receives two more, each one a bit more concerning.
When he receives a few messages, it appears as if these acts are acts of kindness. But it twists and turns for Patrick and his wife until they can't see straight and have no idea who to trust.
Patrick and his wife, Ariana haven't been getting along lately. Patrick had found out shortly before all this happened that Ariana had an affair with the guy from next door.

However the family frustrated me because even when they didn't have money to spend, they spent it!

Rebecca Johns did a wonderful job with Countess Erzsebet Bathory. I found myself feeling sorry for her and her plight of being accused of crueltly to her help, even though she was indeed very cruel.
It is amazing how marriages were arranged and girls VERY young were sent off to be a part of someone else's family, even if you weren't really a match. The Countess did what she had to go she thought to keep her household running.
The descriptions in the book of the countryside, people and events are exquisite. I felt like I was riding with her in that carriage to her new home and so many other times. Lots of romance, betrayal, family betrayals and loyalties will be tried in this book. You will be cheering for one side or the other by the end.. What side will it be?
This book is wonderful because it makes you want to read other books about The Countess and many others, at least I do now!
