But, for some reason, I found myself reading page after page and chapter after chapter until I reached the end of the book.
15 year-old me would've absolutely loved these books back in the day. Now I don't love them, but I don't hate them either. They were pretty decent, cringey yeah, and funny.

I wanted to punch Lucas in the face soooooooo bad, like, wake up man. I kind of predicted some things and I was happy when they happened, lol.
What the hell was that cliffhanger???? Like omg ??

I kind of missed reading these kind of books. I'm a big ass fan of the supernatural/paranormal vibes and academy like books. They're entertaining and interesting, I like the paranormal species and how they develop. To be honest, these series are getting "better".
oh, gods, this was good. on my way to start book 3 ...more
My review has some spoilers (I geuss), you've been warned!
Trigger warnings: drugs, alcohol, murder and mention of attempted rape.
I gotta admit that this was my first reverse harem (that I remember tbh) and it wasn't bad. I mean, it's not that I hate the genre, but I've never read a RH book before, so. I totally loved it, haha.
This is, perhaps, my favorite Alice in Wonderland retelling. It was funny, hot and even dark. Gods, I loved it so much!
This book has it all: multiple and hot love interests, magical and random shit, the classical characters turned into sexy dudes.
I fell for Tee, Dee, Rab, Lar, North and Chesh. hOLY FUCK, RAB, NORTH AND CHESH ARE MY FAVSSSSS. This was a fucking mess from the beginning and I'm really intrigued to know more about them and laugh even more.
All of them are sexy and funny, which is actually even hotter when you see them.
I have a really good time reading it and my only issue was that this book was so fucking short for no reason. And the cliffhanger? Are you fucking serious? If something happens to North, I will set this fucking world on fire. Rab, North and Chesh are my favorites, bUT OH MY FUCKING GODS, RAB IS *chef kiss*
previous review: That cliffhanger tho!! North, nooo, he's one of my faves ...more

Like I said: this is the last book in this series that I will read. Nothing can convince me anymore that this will get better or that there will be good plot twists; I can even guess what will happen in some chapters.
In this book, Mary Sue (Luce) travels back in time through the Annunciators, to learn more about her ✨incredible love story with the oh-so-irresistible-and-gorgeous-Daniel,✨ who is ✨the love of her life.✨ And Daniel follows her, though she doesn't know it.
The very idea of time travel is great... Sadly, Lauren Kate developed it lousy, and confusingly too. This is more like a cat and mouse game, but it's two idiots playing it. Daniel arrives just as Luce is gone and has screwed up the timeline and her past self.
This time, we have two points of view: Luce's and Daniel's, which is quite ridiculous and Daniel having a point of view adds nothing to the plot. You might as well remove his parts and it wouldn't affect the book. Why? Because Daniel is supposed to be reliving his memories (not past lives because let's remember he's an old immortal of over two thousand years of miserable living) and wants to find Luce. For the first time in centuries, there is a hope of breaking the curse that prevents Luce and Daniel from having a lasting love. The most ridiculous thing about all this is that Daniel raises certain doubts in the reader, but does not resolve them, but attributes them to fate, and that's as far as it goes. He does not go deeper into the subject and leaves the reader with more doubts than at the beginning.
Luce's past selves are just as imbecilic as the Luce of the present. The one from the Victorian era is the one that stands out for being a bitch. But nonetheless, they all fall in love with Daniel and my question is, how, does Daniel seek her out in every life? And if so, how does he know where she'll be now? Does this mean he's a stalker like Edward Cullen? I wouldn't be surprised if it does. This series already proved to be a Twilight 2.0.
I find it morbid to think that Daniel has met Luce when she was little and they've even interacted (in the Russian version of Luce's past life, the first one she meets), and he immediately knows who she is and that she's going to fall in love with him. It's disappointing that they know they are ✨destined✨to✨be✨together✨, because I was expecting more development on the part of their "relationship" or "love", but no: since we already know they are destined, and that they are "soul mates", we just expect them to love each other and promise to be together once and for all. Luce brags about how her love is true, but we don't have the scenes where she meets Daniel once and already assumes that her love is true; and then, when she dies burned by that same love... Cookie, get yourself a love that doesn't make you explode like fireworks and isn't toxic. You will be doing us all, and yourself most of all, a huge favor if you leave Daniel Grigori and live a full and long life, not just 16/17 years. Re-evaluate your life and ask yourself if Daniel and his love are really worth burning you alive after a real kiss. I don't think so.
I still don't understand what the exact point of this book is, there are too many questions that are raised, but not answered; and to some extent, that's annoying. Also, it's predictable who Bill might be and what his purpose is in the book. Definitely lame.
So, this is a big nope from me. I'm truly disappointed.
Edit: oH, WAIT A MINUTE. I FORGOT SOMETHING.
There's a part where it says that Daniel (a +2000 y/o man, please, NEVER forget it) used to watch Luce sleep. Edward Cullen?? Anyone?? THIS IS CREEPY AS FUCK!...more

Welcome, friends, to "books I read because I hate myself to stratospheric levels, but that make me laugh." Today our guest will be Torment, the second book in Lauren Kate's Fallen saga.
As I said, I had started this book several days ago (I think it was right after I finished the first book), but I hadn't advanced it because I didn't care for it at the time and I had better things to read. However, a few days ago I decided to continue it... And I'm still pondering whether it was a total waste of time or whether it filled the weekly quota of laughs.
Luce is in "grave" danger. After the "battle" at Sword & Cross - which she clearly didn't participate in because she's human and a little glass doll to be protected - Daniel decreed that the place isn't safe for Luce, as a bunch of strange people we don't know want to kill her.
In any case, Daniel decides it's better for Luce to be somewhere else, so he takes her to Shoreline, in another city. This is a school for nephilim, and although there are humans too, both sides are divided. You're either on the side of the Big Guy, or the Rebel who earned an expulsion from Mount Olympus. In the end, you have to pick a side. Or that's basically what everyone is talking about.
This book is problematic from top to bottom. I don't even know how to describe how disgusted I was to read so much toxicity in a relationship that is based on Luce's obsession with Daniel, who is clearly sick in the head and a toxic fuck.
Plot. Again, there is no plot. Why put the minimum effort into planning a good plot, when you can create characters with no personality, toxic and problematic? They is our plot.
I would have liked Lauren to delve deeper into Shoreline, to give us a new picture, and though she tried, she failed mightily, and I understand that I'm asking too much. The nephilim are aggressive towards humans and practically treat them like garbage. The descriptions of the places are vague and mediocre. And, oh, don't get me started on the celestial subjects consisting of, "How to find a job if I'm a bastard son/daughter of some angel and a miserable mortal they wanted to hang out with and dump", "What are the chances of me fitting in with the real angels, who see us as lesser, and succeeding?" "You know how having superpowers is ridiculous because I don't use them and it doesn't affect the plot itself?"
Dawn is kidnapped by the Outcasts (a series of angels who were blinded as a punishment imposed by Lucifer), because they mistake her for Luce and, coincidentally, return her safe and sound. This is ridiculous, why return her safe and sound, why not send some message? I found it stupid and totally unnecessary, apart from the fact that it makes Luce feel more important than she should: that is, nothing.
There are many unnecessary scenes that could have been omitted. But, of course, certain "plot twists" had to be added (which, by the way, were totally predictable) to keep the reader "hooked". Again, the angels and demons plot is poorly developed. I could have developed it better, jk.
Nothing exciting happens during the whole book. We only get Luce's day to day life for 18 days, which amounts to a journey through Hell, Purgatory and back to Hell, because there is nothing more torturous than this book. The last few chapters really are boring and stupid. Were they supposed to thrill me, make me cry and understand that Luce has a purpose beyond being the most boring YA character in the world? We'll never know.
Characters. This book, like the first, is from Luce's point of view to no purpose. Although, if it had been narrated in the first person, I would find our protagonist to be more irritating, stupid, selfish and ignorant than usual.
In this book, friend Luce is gradually realizing (finally, yai) that Daniel is hiding more things from her than she thinks. But, Luce hadn't realized it before because she was distracted stalking Daniel, and playing the spy. Now, she is slowly waking up and realizing that the reality about angels and demons is more complicated than her tiny, selfish brain can comprehend.
Luce believes that the world revolves around her, that she is meant to be with Daniel, that nothing and no one can separate them and that theirs is ✨true✨love. She's selfish and all she really cares about is getting Daniel's attention, which she does repeatedly when she runs away from Shoreline, despite being told NOT to. And he not only puts his own life at risk, but the lives of those he drags with him into his pathetic life.
She lives her life wondering, "what would Daniel say?". Bitch, no one but you cares about Daniel Grigori, who is an asshole, but we'll talk about him later. Her world boils down to him, which is annoying, because she's only known him for two weeks and he throws her at Shoreline. She depends on Daniel and clearly expresses it, which makes me severely worried about her mental and emotional state.
Quote:
It was scary how quickly and how much she’d come to rely on Daniel, scarier still that she didn’t know when she’d see him next.
I didn't understand why on earth they added Miles as a possible love interest, when it was clear that Luce only saw him as a friend. Was it to cause a different perspective? To show Daniel's jealousy, even though it was totally stupid? Miles would have been better off being Luce's friend from the start, without sneaking in that he was in love with her. WE ALL KNOW THAT LUCINDA AND DANIEL ARE ENDGAME, THANKS!!!!
Luce couldn't be dumber and more clueless. She's not a heroine as such, because all she does is think about whether Daniel would go along with everything she does, commiserating about something really ridiculous, putting his boring, pathetic life at risk, or doing something she was told not to do, so as not to put herself in harm's way. But, Luce ignores everything she is advised not to do.
Luce compares her "relationship" to that of Francesca and Steven, who are angel and demon respectively. Forgive me, child, but Francesca and Steven love and hate each other at the same time; they know that despite their love and relationship, when the "war" comes, they will have to fight each other and kill each other. You claim to love Daniel more than anything, even though you've only known him for almost a month, and you don't hate him and you're not going to fight him because ✨true✨love✨ and you can't fight for yourself.
Amiga, date cuenta.
Daniel is, once again, the biggest asshole that can exist. He has Edward Cullen beat in terms of stupidity, toxicity and testosterone overflowing from his brain like a river. He's a macho fuck who firmly believes he has power and authority over Luce by "wanting to protect her".
Just because Luce dyed her hair blonde, he complains to her and says something really shitty. EXCUSE ME, BUT NO. You have no right to come and tell her what she can and can't do. But, of course, with a kiss Luce will ignore and forget all this, forgiving him because he loves her with his miserable life. More pathetic it couldn't get. Seriously.
Quote of Mr. Grigori being a dick, again.
“I shouldn’t be here, but I worry about you.” He held her at arm’s length. “And from the looks of things, I’m right to worry.” He fingered a lock of her hair. “I don’t understand why you did this, Luce. It isn’t you.”
Again, here is the big man. :3
“You’re not going on a yacht trip anywhere.” “What?” “You’ll stay right here on this campus until I say so.” He exhaled, sensing her rising anger. “I hate giving you these rules, Luce, but … I’m doing so much to keep you safe. I won’t let anything happen to you.”
But he claims that this is TRUE LOVE. HAHAHA YOU FUCKING LIAR.
He grabbed her shoulders and shook them until she met his eyes. “It is true love,” he said, with such desperation that Luce couldn’t tell whether it chipped away at or added to the pain in her heart. “You know it is.”
I could go on with all the quotes of Luce idolizing Daniel, getting mad at him and then forgiving him; or with Daniel being a jerk, but not caring.
I thought this book would have multiple POVS, maybe Luce and Daniel's, because I kept wondering the whole damn book: where is Daniel going? What is he doing to "protect" Luce from all his enemies, which are more because of him? And to think that Luce takes the idea of Daniel killing for her very calmly... No one has any idea how much I laughed at that.
Nothing in this book has coherence. Nor Luce being sent to Shoreline. Nor Francesca or Steven teaching them ONCE to summon an Annunciator and then leaving it at that to say that NO ONE should do it because it's dangerous. Nor Shelby being Daniel's girlfriend, but Daniel doesn't say anything to Luce, but she figures it out on her own and guess what? She forgives him. Nor the war that breaks out at the end where Luce's parents happened to be out walking the dog.
This book was predictable af. A circus. And it's also a funny book, but no because there is humor (which it doesn't have), but because it's stupid.
It's obvious that Lauren Kate couldn't think of much to write in this beautiful story of endless love... Well then, she wouldn't have written anything. This book is terrible, and as the name says, it is a torment....more
A few months ago, I rated this book 3.5 stars. Lmao, why? I was totally insane.
I started this saga because I saw the movie on Ne1 star. 0 if possible.
A few months ago, I rated this book 3.5 stars. Lmao, why? I was totally insane.
I started this saga because I saw the movie on Netflix, and it's as bad as the book itself. Although, the book is worse.
Brace yourselves, folks, the good stuff is coming.
Lucinda, Luce, Price (we'll call her Mary Sue) is an ordinary human, unique and different from the rest. Luce has been through a lot: she lost her crush in an accident and she was saved. Luce thinks she sees shadows that are either going to attack her or kill her; it makes no difference either way.
Her parents think she's crazy (basically), so they send her to a reform school/school called Cross and Sword, which happens to be crawling with angels, demons, and regular, mediocre humans.
On her first day of school, Luce realizes that the school is not as the brochure indicated to her parents, and do they care? No, because they practically want to get rid of her. The infrastructure of the place sucks and is about to come crashing down on them, or so Luce describes it.
The chance of the first day is that our Mary Sue meets the infamously handsome Daniel Grigori. He's tall, blond, violet-eyed and looks like the typical dream guy we all crave, right?. And, the first thing Daniel does when he sees Luce is show her the middle finger, even though she doesn't know him and has absolutely no idea who the hot guy who offended her is.
Okay, let's get down to business.
Plot.
What plot? There's nothing here but Lucinda complaining about her pathetic existence and the regular harassment she does to the mysterious and different Daniel. Lucinda doesn't know why she is attracted to this intriguing boy who, oh gods, is not like the rest. Lucinda has to hide the truth about Sword and Cross from her parents because she doesn't want them to worry about her.
Writing.
It's terrible. Some of the word choice is terrible. There are tons of errors and it makes me wonder about something: how did this book pass the publisher's review? Probably, the editor was distracted trying not to cry about how tedious and boring this book is.
Characters.
Lucinda is Bella 2.0 and lacks personality, self-respect and self-love. She's a freaking stalker and doesn't understand when she's told to stay away from Daniel, even when he warns her himself. She's basically begging him for his attention and follows him everywhere, even when they "casually" meet in the same place. She's demented, "in love" with him, but it's an obsession, it's so bad that it leads her to look up his grade record to know more about him.
Daniel is one of the biggest assholes I've ever met in books. He's Edward 2.0, but this guy is a hell of a lot older. He's a fallen angel who didn't take sides and is one of the good guys. He's always been in love with Luce and every time he kisses her, he watches her die because that's his curse for not choosing a side: he falls in love every sixteen years with the same person and watches her die. This guy is not 100 years old, but over 2000 and Lucinda is 17. Am I the only one who finds this gross?
Cam is a filler character, obviously and is Jacob 2.0. and is supposed to be part of the Lucinda-Daniel-Cam love triangle. However, we know from the start that Lucinda and Daniel are endgame, because it's a fate thing. Daniel has been with her since ancient times and it's true love. Lies. Pathetic.
Lucinda, like Bella, realizes the truth: that Daniel is a fallen angel and the love of her life. But she doesn't act like she's having a hard time processing this information that has to change her life completely. She just assumes it and is fine with that, all because she's obsessed with Daniel and something finally makes sense in her tiny life.
Penn, Todd, Arriane, Gabbe, Roland and the others here are pure filler. They serve neither as supporting characters, nor as outsiders. The book might as well have been just Daniel and Lucinda in an empty world, and no one would have noticed.
There is no villain as such. Miss Sofia just wants Luce dead so Daniel will finally choose sides, but why kill her when she will reincarnate again? This time, and it's funny, Lucinda isn't baptized, so if she's killed, the cycle will be broken and Daniel will never see her again.
Oh, gods, I would have paid good Monopoly money to see Daniel's reaction if he saw Luce die. Anyway, I hated everything about this book and the way they normalize and romanticize stalking, mistreatment by the "hero" and how little, if any, personality all the characters in this book have. But, hey, the laughs were not lacking.
I felt no empathy for any character. I was laughing my ass off because everyone here is stupid. Oh, gods, how this could be a bestseller?
The angel-and-demons plot could have been better developed by people who write fanfiction.
Oh, and wait for the second, it gets better on laughter and worst on the plot....more

oMG, I LOVE PATCH CIPRIANO WITH MY ENTIRE LIFE. HE'S AMAZING, THE LOVE OF MY LIFE AND THE MOST HANDSOME GUY. I WANT SOMEONE LIKE HIM.
Perhaps that's what my 14/15 yo me thought back when I first read hush hush. Now, I just ask myself: "what the hell was I thinking?" My middle school best friend bought this book and we both read it at the same time back in 2012. So I guess my issues with guys started over there, lmao. I guess Hush Hush was the first book we ever read, loooool.
Patch Cipiriano is the blueprint for the dark-haired and bad guys, right? I shamefully confess that I was deeply in love with Patch and I used to say that I wanted a guy like him... I was blind, young, naïve and stupid, so, let's not pay attention to my old me.
So, let's start.
We have our protagonist, Nora Grey, our average girl who has an average life: her father died and her mom works out of the city most part of the time, so, she has to take care of herself. Nora doesn't get herself in trouble, in fact, she tries not to seek them out. One day, in her biology class, the coach switch partners so the "new guy" has to sit up next to Nora.
But, there's a thing: Patch looks like he's dangerous. The classic bad guy who people warn you to stay away from. Unlikely the regular people, Nora feels attracted to Patch, his secrets and mysterious aura. Weird shit start to occur since that day and it's related to Patch, so, Nora wants to know why.
The writing. I gotta say that I'm not a fan of 1st person pov. I honestly hate it, but I have to tolerate it anyways. It was a little bit fast-pacing, so it was easy to swallow. The English level of this book was comprehensible and honestly I liked it because I didn't have to google any term and I'm proud of myself for it. Yay me.
The characters. Nora has the personality of a shoe (as I said in another review, even shoes has more personality than these girls). She's really stupid and thinks that she's smart. Back in 2009, the "oh, i don't go out to parties" and "i don't like to get in trouble" tropes were supreme, trust me. So, we have here a girl who doesn't like to go out... Wait, I don't like to go out to parties either, does that makes me a unique, speshul and different girl?
Anyhow, Nora has a hard time trying to put two and two together. She falls in love with the guy who tries to kill her and oh, that he's a fallen angel too. She says Patch that she doesn't like him calling her "angel", but he does it anyway and ugh, I wanted to kick him several times.
The only development that Nora has is realizing that Patch is a fallen angel and a bunch of information that reminded me of Twilight: Bella googling about vampires, but here we have Nora googling about angels/fallen angels.
No, wait, that's not even a development, so, we have none.
Ahhhh, the gorgeous and desired Patch Cipriano. Me and my middle school best friend used to fangirl really hard over Patch. We didn't know how to recognize the red flags and the toxic traits, because, of course, we were naïve, dumb and we were "in love". Now, I regret of saying that I wanted a Patch as a boyfriend. I found many of them when I was 14/15, and honestly, those guys were cool, but I hated them and toyed with them a few times (yes, I'm a bitch, but that prevented me of having more heartbreaks, yassss)
Anyhow, Patch is a fucking dick. He literally possessed Nora's body and has a fucking thing to lock himself with Nora in the girls' bathrooms, ew, fucking disgusting. All that attitude of "bad guy" and gambler does not help him for me to think he's hot. He's not. He's creepy, a stalker and awful. He forced Chauncey/Jules to give him an oath so Patch could possess him for two weeks. I honestly can understand Jule's resentment and hatre toward Patch for what he did to him.
So, dear Patch: fuck you so much. <3
Vee was the only braincell here, but sometimes I wanted to kick her too.
The girl-on-girl hate is amazing. How or why do you call someone "anorexic pig"???? Let's move and stop the hate between us, please.
I didn't feel any romance here. I felt more like Patch coaxed many thoughts on Nora so she could fall for him and wanted to kiss him, so, yikes.
The tension between Patch and Nora was killing me, but not in the good way. I wanted to kick them and made them to get a room, lmao.
I'm rating this book 1.5 stars because of the memories when I was young, and for getting me out of my reading slump....more
