This is one of my favorite series, and knowing this series is almost finished is bittersweet. Lexie and Ash's story is more unique than most of the other couples in this series. There is lots of chemistry, but if you are looking for a lot of spicy scenes, you won't find that in this book. Lexie had a lot of healing and growth she had to do in order to take a step towards her future with Ash.
Both of them are fighting their own demons. Lexie has been neglected since she was a young child by her parents, so she turned to alcohol, drugs, and sex trying to fill that void. She avoided getting close to people emotionally for fear they would just leave like her parents.
Ash came back from fighting in a war and turned to alcohol to try and escape the nightmares of his past, but when he realized Lexie needed him, he went to rehab to become the man she needed. The Skulls rallied around Lexie, teaching her that family isn't just about blood. She discovered friendship, parental bonds, and most importantly, she learned that her past didn't define her future. I'm excited to read the last book to see how it all ends.
Please be aware that this interconnected standalone series deals with very heavy real-life topics, so check for your triggers before reading....more
Raven and her guys are the epitome of perseverance despite the less than ideal circumstances they were dealt in life. IA great finish for the trilogy
Raven and her guys are the epitome of perseverance despite the less than ideal circumstances they were dealt in life. I absolutely love seeing Rory (from the WATCH ME BURN series) getting to be the kind of parent she wished she had been blessed with as a child. The dynamic of this group is full of sexual tension, forbidden love, and secrets that could destroy everything. This is a why choose, best friends, brother's best friend, enemies to lovers mixed troupe with lots of hard hitting real life situations. The character growth in this trilogy is incredible.
Please note that this trilogy contains several big triggers, including suprise pregnancy/miscarriage, death of a parent, death of a sibling, child abuse, sexual assualt, and parental negligence....more

The thing I've enjoyed most about this particular spinoff series is getting to see how much Rory has evolved since her introduction in Pretty Lies (she will forever be my favorite female bada** character). We are also seeing the same evolution in Beckett as she takes Raven under her wing to help her "be the knight, not the damsel". I'm loving Rory as the inspirational mom and Beckett trying to figure out how the heck to be a good friend to a girl. I loved that Raven didn't just instantly let the guys back into her life and makes them earn that trust back. I think Anders is a great fit for Raven because he gives her space to breathe while still looking out for her (he wants her to spread her wings instead of coddling her). There are definitely some hard topics in this one, so be aware of your possible triggers.
It was nice to be so invested in a story that I was able to forget all the crap happening in my country, even if it was just a temporary escape. I literally couldn't put it down once I started reading it. Can't wait for the final book, especially after that ending....more

I was so happy to see him have some redemption after all the things that happened in book one that made him less than likeable. The way he stood by his girl and provided her the moral support she needed to pursue her own dreams even when they faced obstacles was beautiful. I also loved how supportive Savannah was of their relationship and how she proved that public perception of celebrities doesn't always tell the full story of what type of person they are in real life. Can't wait for book 3....more

Please be aware that there is an MM relationship within this why choose romance, so if that is not your thing, then this duet is not for you (don't ignore this warning and then leave a bad review because you don't like MM hookups). I love that Harper explains exactly why I love why choose romance so much. Each guy gives her something she needs in her life and it is only with all of those pieces that she feels complete. These overprotective guys would go to the end of the earth to make sure she is safe and happy....more

It as a quick, fun read. Watching their relationship develop from a "fake" dating agreement into actually falling in love just shows you can find love when you least expect it. Loved catching up with the other 2 couples from this series. Loved these characters. Loved how connected they all were. Raven, Reid, and Logan are trauma bonded from the death of her brother. And because Reid was her brother's best friend he has always been extremely protective of her. The three guys, Zavier, Logan, and Reid all made a pact that she is off limits romantically, but Raven loves all three of them and finally decides she is done waiting for them to notice she isn’t just one of the guys. Jealousy, protective instincts, hurt feelings, and more trauma come along with this budding romance. When her life is endangered she makes a decision to do things on her own, without the boys who have always been by her side. Loved seeing Beckett being friends with a girl and getting to see Rory's mama bear side. This is a trilogy so there is a cliffhanger at the end of this one that had me cursing. Can’t wait to see how their story continues to unfold....more

His lips brushed my temple, my heart warming at the affection. “We’re the shadows in the dark so we’ll see it coming, trust me.” ....... the two quotes pretty much sum up the book. Be prepared to fall in love with one of the least loveable characters, swoon for the two guys who have fallen completely in love with her, and expect the unexpected. The ending is most definitely a cliffhanger, like you are seriously hanging on by your fingertips. You will love her sass and fiesty attitude, especially when it comes to fiercely defending her guys. I can honestly say I don't even know what to expect with book 2 after that ending. Oh and I almost forgot that the spicy scenes are definitely spicy.
Just a heads up if m/m is not your thing and you probably won't enjoy this book as a huge part of it deals with two of the guys who have had a long standing relationship and how that dynamic changed when Penn arrived. This is a why choose situation and involves 3 guys and 1 girl.

Preacher's daughter, step brother, why choose romance... please check your triggers as this book does deal with child abuse. These characters are so intriguing and I love the dynamic. Harper escaped her father's strict religious hand after he was put in jail. She's trying to discover who she is now that she has the freedom to think for herself. When her mother gets remarried, she gains a new stepbrother, one that she has a history with. And along with him comes his two best friends. Add in her longtime boyfriend and an unknown stalker for an epic romantic suspense. The cliffhanger definitely leaves you hanging.
My favorite quote was "No. This isn’t transactional. You deserve pleasure without owing anything to anyone else." I absolutely love the emphasis on consent, and the care and respect he showed her in this scene. So often in romance books consent gets lost in the spicy scenes, but I've noticed my favorite authors including it more and I love that. ...more

Very few books have ever made my heart ache or made me sob uncontrollably, but this book gripped my heart and shattered it.
This story resonated with me on such a deeper level, not because I faced the same type of illness as Zoey did, but living with multiple autoimmune and chronic health issues and having to go through multiple surgeries starting at age 19, I had many similar conversations about our future with my then fiancée (now husband of 24 yrs). I wrote letters to him just in case I didn't survive my surgeries, and they were so similar to the things she wrote in her own letter. I know how it feels to think you are a burden to your friends and family and significant other when you have health issues that become the entire focus of your life.
Please know this is not a HEA story and your heart will break. The end does bring hope for his future and I am curious to see if there will be another book for him....more
