It was an ok read, but did not pull me in and I don’t particularly have any interest in continuing the series. For me, it lacked depth in the characters and their relationship....more

The writing is ok though has a lot of mistakes (one notable one is when she thinks she has to be "processional" instead of "professional"). Mercy was a meh character and Rave was crap. There is basically no world building, but I recently saw this is a spin of of a couple of her other series so I guess it shouldn't surprise me. The relationship was also not engaging at all for me - he rejects her, gets her out of the underground sex trade, then they are both just supposed to go about their lives? She sees him again and she's pissed at him, thinks "but the BOND" and has sex with him immediately, he rejects her again, then she's forcibly dragged up to his private floor where thanks to said bond they are perfectly ok with each other and ready to be in love after exchanging a couple words. He does a 180 flip and says he's done fighting their bond to protect her and she's like "oh yeah, I get it, we weren't ready back then but we're great now, you made a good call"....more

None of the characters are developed and major things are glossed over, it almost feels like it was a fleshed out template for a book instead of a full book. Though, at 117 pages it's really more of a novella. There is no relationship building, things that should be a big deal are over within paragraphs, and the major topic of domestic violence and escaping from that is glossed over - only to have her run straight into the arms of a man who doesn't abuse her but acts almost the same and thinks "you're mine and if you try to leave I'll find you". The mating process was also a bit odd for me ((view spoiler)[ step 1 sex where he says magic words, step 2 she accepts his bite, step 3 he chases her on the full moon directly after the bite and the pack watches (hide spoiler)])....more

It showed up in my recommended after reading some other shifter books but the writing style and story of this just didn’t work for me. The relationship between the two main characters, and honestly the main characters themselves, didn’t get me invested in the story. The story seemed to slog on forever with nothing really happening.
There was a long cycle of Caleb being a jerk to Grace (which everyone else finds endearing for some reason), Grace decides she wants nothing to do with him, he does something nice and is suddenly hot, then he is immediately a jerk again. Wash and repeat. This really wasn’t an enemies to lovers, fated mates, or even a slow-burn. They spent a big chunk of the book antagonizing each other then randomly decided “jk, let’s fuck, then you can move in with me”.
Also - everyone was all “we can’t tell outsiders anything” and somehow she was supposed to just infer from that that she needed to consider herself pack to be accepted when she didn’t even know there WAS a pack? And the pack members were disappointed (or in Caleb’s case irritated) when she didn’t take that initiative to be one of them? Of course she isn’t going to play by your rules, she doesn’t even know they exist....more
