I do love my happy ever after books. But every so often the lack of similarities with real life grate on me. And this story about fleeting romance, heartbreak, and disappointment full of introspection and life teachings was just the thing I needed. It is wonderfully written, mixing present and past seamlessly, with a beautiful prose that flows effortlessly. I could have read the full story in one sitting, if not because I already started reading pretty late that night. This story also brought me a lot of nostalgia, the story is very similar to my own experience also in Japan. With a Japanese person, although my stay in Tokyo was much longer. Curiously, the places our protagonist explores are some of the places I visited less when staying in Tokyo, but the description of the society working the streets and businesses brought back so many memories I find myself wanting to go back to Tokyo to explore some more. A beautiful, unassuming story, really well written, full of great thoughts about love, live, relationships and friendship. Absolutely recommend this book....more

Not the most original story out there, the theme has been explored many times with similar outcomes. The story doesn't explore anything new, but it is still well written and interesting, and the theme is relevant and explores problems that are very present in our current society, and are worth exploring and sharing constantly in the hopes that in the future we will be different. I think this book would actually work better as a TV show, i kins of picture it in my mind that way. And it would be a hit. Sadly, the book, as it is, wasn't for me. I enjoyed it, I specifically like the main character and her very realistic teenager attitude and naïveté. And her sense of awareness and justice. But it was slow and in between action it was dragging a bit and I got sometimes bored, making me take longer to read it than I would have normally other books of the same length.
And even though it wasn't for me, I think plenty of people special younger audiences, to whom the book is actually marketed for, would enjoy it very much...more

I love pirates, but I got not only pirates but werewolves, vampires and beautiful sapphic romance. So, yeah, that's cool.
I can't say it is the best book ever, but it was highly entertaining, the action never stops and keeps you hooked from the very first page. Although, I think, it had the potential of being more than one book. There are some things that could use more page time and information about, and I think the Garou were not used to their full potential.
Also, the ending felt a bit rushed, and while I was reading I was sure the book was the first of a series/duology. I would have love to read more about certain things and extend the story.
But despite these, the plot is solid, entertaining, the romance is sweet and the characters interesting and well-built. Overall, a great read. I would recommend to everyone who loves pirates mainly and vampires secondly. ...more

It is a lovely retelling of sleeping beauty, with plenty of hints to other fairy tales as well. It starts strong but quickly becomes a little slow, and I struggled reading up until the 50% point when it stars to pick up again, in order to take us to the conclusion. I am glad I stuck to it. It is a great first book, both as a debut and the first of a series. I don't know if it is intended to be a series, but the ending kind of let us think it will. I also got really curious about the magic system, the politics, and the conflicts between the kingdom, and I would enjoy reading about it in future books. (Spoiler alert) I would also love to read Jacken and Briar story. What Talia does as a queen and how Sel becomes a great master....more

This is the first book I read by this author, but I can say it won't be the last, and I intend to read all her previous works. That's how much I enjoyed this one.
The story was gripping, and I couldn't put it down, I just needed to know the answer to all those mysteries. I connected with all the main characters, and I was so invested in their story that after finishing the book, I just can't stop thinking about them and what's going to happen. I need the next one like right now.
By the end of the book, following the lead of all the clues you follow together with the characters, I reached the same conclusion as the characters just a few pages before them, which to me is perfection. If I cannot imagine even a little, the twist usually makes no sense, and if you figure everything out way before the characters in the book, they just appear plain and unintelligent. None of that happens here. The balance was perfect. With still some bits that caught me by surprise at the very end.
It was a remarkable read I will be adding to my shelves, and crossing my fingers for some beautiful hardback editions to come out too....more

I am so glad teens in this time will have access to these stories. Hopefully, they will find it easier to love oneself.
I would have loved a bit more development on the side characters as they were quite plain and cliché, but they worked well in the story and played their roll nicely, so it is not a big complaint. Saffron story was all too relatable. Her experiences and thoughts do similar to mine's at that age and older. And, to be honest I also created a false persona on the Internet at that age, just to experience what it was not to be rejected, luckily I didn't hurt anyone, but I was hurt by someone doing the same and it hits hard.
So, in all, I enjoyed this book. It has a great message, the main character is really relatable, and the story and subplots are lovely. ...more

I enjoyed this so much. Loved the plot and world building the characters and the romance subplot. The plot is dark and talk about some hard themes that are timeless. Full or court politics, treason and intrigue, it sucks you in the story from the first page.
This book has a lot of elements we find in romantasy without being romantasy, many elements make you think of other popular books, but for me, they were improved in this one. Have you read acotar and loved it, but thought it lacked a true fight for equality and the feminism is diluted? Well, you won't have that problem with this one. Our heroine Kenna do her best not just to survive herself but to help everyone as much as she can. She is a strong-layered character who grows with the story and who you can't help but love. It is probably one of the few times the main character is my favourite instead of one of the side characters. Who are by the way also great and interesting I loved the ending and I can't wait for the next book. And I am hoping this one gets some nice special edition that I can add to my collection because it is absolutely worth it. ...more

The beginning of the book is slow, and it took me a bit to get into it. And even though I was engaged enough to continue reading and not DNF it, I wasn't especially excited to come back to it every day.
There is no chemistry between our two main characters. The romance comes from nothing, and the sex scenes seem random and have no meaning
The story has no resolution. It just ends, and none of the questions get answered. Only the main character is deep and developed. The rest are plain with no depth to them. So despite being interesting to read all about our main character thoughts and the descent (or ascent) of her mental health, the book was mostly meh for me and I don't think I will remember much of it after I finish writing this review.
As it is, and even though I didn't hate it, I also can't really find good things to say about it other than, it is not terrible, and I know many people will enjoy it. I just wasn't one of them

The plot is full of twists that I didn't see coming at all, leaving me speechless at the end.
