The Black Flamingo is such an incredible book, and unfortunately this didn't live up to that standard for me. While this tackles important topics such as identity, friendship and honesty, I didn't get on with the characters. Something just didn't let me connect with any of them, particularly our main character Kai, who was incredibly frustrating. I also really didn't feel the chemistry between Kai and Matt, or think that Matt should have been a love interest at all - their relationship felt a bit toxic to be honest. I love the author's writing style and the lyrical tone of the verse, but this was disappointing compared to the author's previous works....more

This took so long to read for some reason, but this is utterly brilliant? And hilarious? This is so silly and fun and wacky, and it totally endeared me. I really loved how the author naturally incorporated chronic illness representation, based on their own chronic illness as discussed in the author's note. It's rare to see that kind of representation in fantasy novels, so I loved it in here. The worldbuilding was well done and this felt like such a fully developed story and world, given it's only 350 pages and a standalone. My favourite part about this book? He is literally a HORSE for half of it (he turns into a horse by day???) and yet the romance is heartfelt and beautiful and believable. Did I mention he turns into a horse? Genius. The only reason this isn't 5 stars is that I feel like because of how long it took me to read it, I wasn't fully immersed in the story. I will 100% be remedying that with a reread in the future....more

The Fall Guy by Olivie Blake - 4 stars Fun,Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a free eARC in exchange for an honest review!
The Fall Guy by Olivie Blake - 4 stars Fun, flirty and I really liked the romance - I just got a bit lost with a ton of worldbuilding/infodumping right at the start.
The Dubious Ladies of Mirador by Melissa Marr - 3 stars I quite liked the world and the way the story wrapped up, but it was pretty confusing throughout.
Until December by Kelly Andrew - 5 stars I love this author so much! This was torture! Such a fun time travel twist, and my heart broke on the last paragraph.
The King’s Witch by Tasha Suri - 4 stars Short and sweet, easy to grasp the worldbuilding. Likeable characters, destroying the world for love is a slay. Just wish it had been a little longer!
Designated Virgin Sacrifice by Kelley Armstrong - 3.5 stars A twist I wasn’t expecting! Very fun and goofy, I just didn’t feel particularly connected to the main character.
Second Class Magic by Kamilah Cole - 3 stars Cute but not my favourite. It felt pretty rushed, even for a short story.
Bamboo Ink Paper Clay by Eliza Chan - 2 stars I couldn’t make sense of this story or connect to the characters.
Slay the Princess, Save the Dragon by A.C. Wise - 4 stars This is so cute! Wish we’d seen more of the dragon, but I loved the message and the romance is sweet and delightful!
Sant Marten’s Book of Mild Melancholy by A.G. Slater - 2.5 stars Points for the main character having the same name as me, but this was confusing and not very engaging.
Good Deeds and Their Magical Punishments by Hannah Nicole Maehrer- 3 stars Sweet, but didn’t stand out! The romance felt too rushed.
The Larkspur by Megan Bannen - 3.5 stars Cute! I love this world from her series, I think you might struggle to grasp the worldbuilding if you haven’t read Hart & Mercy.
Rosebud by Katherine Arden - 4 stars Beautifully written, the ending felt pretty abrupt but I loved the overall message and vibes. ...more

This installment is all about adventure, and it was so much fun! I loved getting to explore new places in this world, new magic systems. The romance that takes place is very well written - there is a love triangle, which typically I don't enjoy, but I loved both love interests in this case, and how the romance ended up playing out was very creative, if a little easy to predict. My issue is how rushed the ending felt - I thought I was missing pages in my proof copy, because we still had so much to figure out and there was only about 15 pages left, so it didn't feel fully developed. I am very excited for King of Beasts though!

I always love a roadtrip in books, and this one was a lot of fun! Heading cross-country with the goal of seeing your favourite band live is something I can get behind, and I feel like the roadtrip setting worked really well for this trio of characters, who've drifted apart over the years. There is a romance, but it's definitely a subplot compared to the main story of rekindling these friendships. It was an easy read, lighthearted and breezy - I just didn't feel connected to the characters, and there's a few side plots that felt a bit unnecessary and out of place with the story....more

A magical house is always so much fun! I really liked the writing style, written almost in prose, and I think this is a really great depiction of anxiety for younger readers. Wow, I ended up enjoying this much more than the first two books! Cole and Ginger have great chemistry and this did not feel cringey like the first two books - there's so much tension between them, and I loved the storyline of Vegas and nannying, it was so much fun. I really appreciated the relationship we saw grow between Ginger and Mabel, and how that helped the romantic relationship between Ginger and Cole to blossom. I truly think this is the author's best work yet, and I'm excited to see how the next book turns out!...more

I didn't enjoy this author's previous book, so I was apprehensive about this one - but I actually ended up having quite a good time! I felt hooked in from the beginning, and although I think I might've preferred if we had switched between POVs a little more often (I kind of ended up forgetting about the other main character when we were in one's POV), I do feel like the format was interesting. You really do have to suspend your disbelief for this one - it's very far-fetched - but if you can do that, I think you can have a good time with this! Two unreliable narrators, suspense, good character development; there's a lot to like with this one!...more

I couldn't tell you what this book is about if I TRIED. Like genuinely I have no idea what was happening at all, except that these two characters keep finding each across different worlds - it just didn't work for me at all. Hmmm... I didn't love this as much as everyone else did and I feel very sad about that! I think that this just wasn't as romantic as I was expecting? It's far more of a survival story, which isn't a bad thing, but it meant that I just wasn't feeling the romance between Zeke and Lexi. I really liked the character growth throughout, and there was a lot of emotion to the book, and I really didn't see that plot twist coming - but overall, I just didn't feel gripped or invested enough in the book....more

Hmm… It’s a pretty unique concept, but I didn't enjoy it. There's some really interesting futuristic things going on with the memory erasures, and it was beautifully written, but I didn't feel this "intense" chemistry between Strat and Aria that there supposedly was. This was very cute and cosy, but I struggled to stay invested. This is true enemies-to-lovers and I ate it up! It gave me the vibes of Your Blood, My Bones and My Throat an Open Grave; the writing is dreamy and the setting is lush. The relationship between Cassia and Zeru was reminiscent of Jude and Cardan. I loved the connections to the forest - the worldbuilding is incredibly vivid and I felt invested from start to finish. At times, there was a bit too much going on, and I would've liked to slow down and appreciate the relationship growing more, but overall, well worth the read!...more

I read Savour It last week knowing I needed to get to my ARC of Left of Forever soon - and honestly maybe I actually read them a little too close together, because I was comparing them a lot and I felt like I was still on my high of Savour It - so perhaps I'll reread Left of Forever at some point and it will become the 5 star read that I feel like it should be!
To be honest, second chance romances are not my favourite, but that goes to show how talented this author is that she made me love the trope in this book! Wren and Ellis are so painfully, clearly made for each other, They felt so real, and I loved watching them learn to properly communicate with each other, it was so tender and heartfelt and sincere. The yearning!!! I am a sucker for yearning and this had it in SPADES.
While the vast majority of this book features only Wren and Ellis as they are on this roadtrip, we do get little snippets of the other characters we know and love, and the dynamics between this whole family is my favourite thing. They feel so genuinely real and fill me with such warmth!

I think I struggled with this because the mystery took so long to get going. I liked the characters and the Gossip Girl side to it, I also really enjoyed the cultural references and the strong family elements, as well as the sickle cell representation. But the murder mystery aspect felt very weak - there's not really a murder mystery, and what there is, doesn't start until there's less than 100 pages left, so I'm not totally sure what the thought process was for that....more

I went into this completely blind, so I really enjoyed being surprised by this turning out to be a mixture of Cinderella and The Little Mermaid! The plot was interesting and fast-paced, with a lot of action going on. There's a strong female protagonist, dramatic sisterly dynamics, betrayal, forbidden romance, folklore - a whole mixture, and it worked really well! I loved the setting and I feel like the author wove the story very well. I feel like the Cinderella aspect of the story faded away and I would have loved to have had that element be stronger in the latter half of the book, but that might just be because I'm much more of a Cinderella girl than The Little Mermaid....more

It was so toxic and dramatic, but I was so invested in these characters and their lives - it felt like I was truly watching a documentary. I found myself really emotionally attached to Heath and Katarina, I had no idea what to expect and I felt STRESSED while reading it.
