I love mythology, it is one of my favourite genres and I suppose I’ve never really looked at the stories from an LGBTQ+ point of view. This book has changed all that for me. Most tales are read through the lens of academics and yep, mainly the Victorians who frowned upon the idea of queer love and have suppressed these ideas.
Although we meet the usual suspects from classical times; Narcissus, Zeus, Apollo. We also meet Robin Hood, Odin, Akhenaten and right up to modern times Doctor Who, Willow and Tara from Buffy and Frodo and Samwise Gamgee from LOTR. We are given an idea of what these people do in these stories and it’s referenced to the now. It’s easy to read, entertaining and just really interesting!
I would recommend this to all mythology fans whether you like the old stuff or the new....more

Ted Ainsworth has been dumped by his husband of nearly twenty years and the bottom has fallen out of his world. He works in the family ice- cream business in St Luke’s on Sea, a quiet seaside town where nothing happens and he doesn’t even like ice cream! He is devastated and distraught but what if it could be an opportunity to put what he wants first? Something he has never told anyone.
I just adored Ted, he is such a beautiful human, kind and thoughtful and adored by his family. I was rooting for him from the off and I had a little inkling of what Ted may want to do with his life.
‘For now - even if it’s only for an hour - I am a goddess! And I’m going to enjoy every minute of it!’
There is a fabulous family of characters, Giles, ugh, what a gaslighter. Not nice at all. Oskar, with a k, so so cute, Gail Force is a Queen with sass, I loved reading her development and Denise is a BFF we all need in our lives! I was shocked with the reveal of the letter writer which made me feel a little sad and let down, but the ups and downs of life are all here.
‘And now I’m letting her loose, I’m becoming the person I was always meant to be.’
This book screams joy at you, it’s really uplifting and shines like a beam of light through some very dreary days. Light and easy to read, it’s not without some difficult times but it’s full of emotions. I especially love all the emotions of falling in love, it’s universal and does not fail to make your heart smile!
There’s no doubt about it, this book slays! ❤️❤️❤️...more
