I really liked the ending and the lead up to the next book, so I’ll still be continuing with the series....more
After reading the first book, I was so excited to see what happens next in this series!

This book really takes you on an adventure. Following on from the first book, Icelyn Brathius has fled Mountaintop after the chaos and destruction of introducing the Threatbelows. Mountaintop has changed for the better, but they are now facing a new threat, and only Icelyn can save them. But in order to do so, she must leave her safe haven and those she cares for. Along the way, we learn more about the secrets of Sean Brathius’ experiments which inevitably damned the world.
“Happiness from long ago that hasn’t carried into today turns into a sadness that’s too much to bear.”
The start of the book was a bit slow for me, but when it picked up it reeeaaally picked up. There was a lot going on in this book, which I liked, although it could be a bit confusing at times. I loved the flashbacks we got throughout - it really answered a lot of questions, like how humanity ended up at Mountaintop, and how the Threatbelows evolved. But at the same time, I’m left with more questions I hope will be answered in another book. And that ending! I did not see it coming.
“Do they want a god or a sacrificial lamb? Or, as far as they’re concerned, is there any difference?”
Overall, I really enjoyed this dystopian read! It wasn’t as good as the first book for me (which is why I’ve rated it a 3.5 and not 4), but is well written and imaginative. I need the next book, I have too many questions after that cliffhanger!

It’s been a while since I last read a YA dystopian book, and they haven’t been my favourites, but this one was so different (and better)!!

“That’s the gift I’m going to give you. I’m going to teach you how to steal the fire. Im going to show you how to batter and break reality until it bleeds out what you want.”
The Threat Below is set far into the future, where what is left of humanity resides high up on a mountain, separated from the world below by a wall. No one dares enter the thick cloud beyond the wall. But when the water supply has been poisoned, tensions run high, and someone has to get to the bottom of it, even if that means going beyond the wall…
“In order to survive, you may someday be forced to take the form of a worm. But at least try to be an eagle first. Always strive to be noble, even when you feel forced into acting lowly.”
This book had me hooked from the start! It has adventure, power-plays, violence, love, betrayal. You grow to love/hate the characters, but each one adds something to the energy of the story.
I loved that I honestly didn’t know what the expect as I read, so the twist was EPIC!
“I am a god, and I created this world. I gave life, then released death upon everyone.”
There is a love triangle in this, but I just found the whole dynamic of it a bit strange. I do love me a good romance, but then again this isn’t a romance book so I can easily overlook that.
