Thousands of years ago my soul had been split by Zeus’ lightening, but it wasn’t until tonight that I felt like I was burning.
This was a beautifully written modern Greek Tragedy, I absolutely love love love loved this!
Thousands of years ago, Zeus split humans in half, creating soulmates: the one person who makes you feel complete, your literal other-half. Finding your soulmate is easy, especially when Aphrodite is involved. At least, it should be easy. Vanessa has waited her whole life to find her soul mate, but after an apparent error, Vanessa finds herself with not one soulmate but two, leaving her, Alexander, and Theo to question everything; Who is their true soulmate? Can you live without your other-half? Is there such a thing as more than one soulmate?
A kiss was the start of forever, the most important moment in any fairytale, walking the maiden, sealing a promise.
Now, I know what you’re thinking, ‘uh oh, love triangle alert!’, but trust me when I say this is not your typical love triangle. This book is FULL of twists. Seriously. So. Many. Twists. It had me HOOKED right from the start.
The writing is beautiful, I really enjoyed the characters. I was also impressed with the Classical Greek aspects (and that the GREEK Heracles was correct! It’s the small things lol), and how the mythology was incorporated into a modern tale.
If you love Greek mythology, modern retellings, love triangles, this is perfect for you! ...more

It began with a girl and a sword, and it will end with a girls and her sword.
This book is so beautifully written! Inspired by Chinese folklore and mythology, this debut xianxia novel is full of action, tension, and a whole load of drama!
“Lives are fragile; your palm can be a refuge or a cage. Are you certain you are ready for this?”
Ahn is a peasant girl, fighting to keep herself and her adoptive grandmother alive. But when she stumbles into Altan, an exiled prince looking to avenge his family, her life is quite literally flipped.
The desert is no place for sentiment. Here, you learn not to shed tears.
The characters were amazing, they all had their flaws which just made them more relatable and likeable. I also loved the LGBTQ+ representation, and all of the hints of Asian mythology.
The only reason I didn’t give this book 5 stars is because I found the pacing a little off - the middle seemed to drag at times, and then the ending seemed rushed.
Overall, I really enjoyed this and I am so excited to see where the next book will take these characters!...more

Okay, this one definitely made up for the previous book! Persephone and Hades’ relationship is still toxic AF, and a tad cringe, but Persephone was much more likeable in this book.
“Even if the Fates unraveled our destiny, I would find a way back to you.”
I enjoyed the plot, getting to meet the other gods (I cannot wait for Aphrodite’s story! But Hermes is still my favourite), and the darker subplots. We see Persephone dealing with grief and trauma, and dealing with the consequences of her behaviour and actions from the previous books - which I think was definitely needed.
“This darkness is not the same. This darkness is toil and trauma, grief and loss. It is the darkness that will make you Queen of the Underworld.”
And oh the ending!!! That cliffhanger was so good and cruel, I need to know what happens next!!!...more
With Persephone and Hades’ relationship now common knowledge, Persephone’s ‘normal life’ has been3.5/5
I didn’t enjoy this one as much as the first one
With Persephone and Hades’ relationship now common knowledge, Persephone’s ‘normal life’ has been thrown into chaos and threatens to expose her as a Goddess.
The past comes back to haunt them, bargains are struck, and their relationship is put to the test. Nothing is without consequences.
“You are my weakness, losing you is my greatest fear, your love is my most treasured possession.”
Again, Persephone came across as whiny and annoying at times, but Hades is the star once more. I wasn’t a fan of Persephone’s on-and-off-again and MAJOR jealousy vibes towards Hades and his past (I mean, he’s centuries old, so of course he’s had past relationships!!) - I wanted to scream at her to get a grip. I did enjoy the story - there were some bits (one in particular) that truly broke my heart.
“I love you. Even if the Fates unraveled our destiny, I would find a way back to you.”
I also loved the addition of other characters from mythology (e.g. Adonis and Pirithous)! It’s a lot of fun seeing how this modern spin on Greek mythology will play out!...more

A Touch of Darkness is a smutty modern retelling of the Hades and Persephone myth.
“There is rage. There is passion. There is darkness.”
After a chance meeting at a nightclub, Persephone, the Goddess of Spring, finds herself bound by a contract to the God of the Dead, Hades. But the conditions of the contract seem impossible: she has six months to create life in the Underworld, or risk her freedom and spend the rest of her life living among the dead.
“Let me show you what it is to hold power in your hands,” he said. “Let me coax the darkness from you—I will help you shape it.”
This book definitely focuses more on the romance, with everything else being secondary. I’ve read quite a few mixed reviews, but I think because I knew what to expect, it didn’t disappoint me. I actually really liked the book!
Persephone was a bit annoying at times, but Hades - me likie.
“They say Hades is protective of his realm, and while that is true, it isn’t about power. He cares for his people, protects them, and he takes it personally if anyone is harmed. If you belong to him, he will tear the world apart to save you.” ...more

People might have forgotten their primal fear, but the monsters under the bed don’t always move on.
Detective Inspector Sara Nayar is a Hindu goddess of order with very little power, living her life as a human Detective Inspector in Sheffield, England. After she witnesses a murder, it’s clear there’s something more at play. Chaos is creeping into her city, and the gods are acting out. Working hard to solve the crime, Sara finds herself vulnerable, jumping between the human and god realms, fighting to retain order.
I am not a mere human, lost and alone, nor am I an emotionless god, cut off from my humanity. […] I am a god, I have all my powers, but I’m also still me.
This book blends murder mystery and fantasy, with a mix of mythologies like Hindu, Old Norse, Greek, that I absolutely loved. I also really enjoyed the trans and BIPOC representations throughout. Oh, and the food descriptions had my mouth watering so bad!
I wish there was a bit more romance between Sara and her love interest, and the ending seemed a bit rushed after the nice pacing at the start and middle of the book, but overall I really enjoyed this and would defiantly recommend!
Thank you NetGalley for providing me with a free copy in exchange for an honest review. ...more

This is a beautiful retelling of the epic Trojan War. Even if you do not have any prior knowledge of Homer’s Iliad, or the general events of the Trojan War, you are bound to fall in love and be captivated by Madeline Miller’s creation.
“We were like gods at the dawning of the world, and our joy was so bright we could see nothing else but the other.”
Set in the age of heroes, the exiled young prince, Patroclus, is sent to the court of King Peleus where he meets the young Achilles. Against all odds, the two become fast friends and their bond grows stronger and deeper. But when Helen of Sparta has been taken by Paris, a prince of Troy, they must face their hardest test yet and join the War.
“There are no bargains between lion and men. I will kill you and eat you raw.”
This isn’t only a retelling of the epic battle between the Greeks and the Trojans, it is a moving, heart-wrenching love story of two young men who must face the allure of fame and glory, that will ultimately test everything they love.
“He is half of my soul, as the poets say.”
Even though I know how the epic ends, it still hit all the feels and I AM NOT OKAY. This book leaves you absolutely broken, but I honestly cannot recommend it enough. ...more

I came into this story with a love for Ancient Greek mythology, having read and studied Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey. So when I heard of this book I knew I had to get my hands on it!
“The thought was this: that all my life had been murk and depths, but I was not a part of that dark water. I was a creature within it.”
This book follows the story of Circe - from her birth, life in the house of Helios, exile, growth into witchcraft, and fight to protect all that she loves. Although she did some evil things, you can’t help yourself but admire Circe in all she went through - through her struggles and discovery of self.
“He showed me his scars, and in return he let me pretend that I had none.”
We also meet figures from Greek mythology that cross paths with Circe, such as the Minotaur, Medea, and of course, the brave Odysseus.
Madeline Miller writes beautifully - she just has a way with words that is so engaging. She really captures the discovery, loss, love and determination of Circe’s story. Her interpretation of the myth was absolutely brilliant!
