you know what, i shouldn’t even be surprised that I’m rating this 5 stars because these characters and the mistborn series as a whole means everything to me. all the connections and having Kelsier and Sazed back was perfect and i have absolutely ZERO complaints whatsoever. Wax and Wayne, Marasi, MeLaan and Steris have come a long way and I’m so proud of all of them. that talk that Wax gave to Wayne and how Wayne kept questioning whether he was worthy and feeling like he had nothing to live for had me wanting to crawl through the book and give him a hug. this man is known as being the comedic relief but he’s so much more and I’m glad this book was his chance to show that. i really loved getting Steris’ side of things and how she had to navigate leading the people in a way that suited her strengths, instead of Wax’s.. i just love this series.

Taunting notes and clever retorts reveal a connection neither has found— nor could ever find— in any other.”
this book was not at all what i expected and it took me a bit to get into the story. Oneira is a powerful sorceress who’s decided she no longer wants a hand in all the war and destruction, so she retires and lives a life of reclusion in her cottage. her magic allows her to walk through dreams in the dream world and one day, she steals a book from a rival sorcerer named Stearanos— and thus starts a sort of cat and mouse game between them. i really grew to love the romance and the gradual connection built between Oneira and Stearanos, it was emotionally charged and ran deeper than either of them could’ve imagined. the lengths she went to in order to help him and the way he felt pained to even ask anything of her was killing me. the ending was a punch right in the gut and i cannot forgive the author for that cliffhanger.. what am i supposed to do now?! my feelings about this were all over the place, but i honestly find myself randomly thinking about it since i read it.

Whatever it was, she’d burn the world to prevent it from ever coming to pass.”
as a sequel and a conclusion, i enjoyed this one. each of the characters had their time to shine and Kadrin has become my favorite character out of the whole group. i loved his development and how refreshing it was to have someone with his personality to balance everyone out. they’re all struggling with their own issues that i won’t elaborate on to keep from spoiling, but the pacing was perfect and i still really enjoy the magic and the setting. even though Sou-Zell was testing my patience, i actually ended up appreciating having his perspective on everything around him. Jin and Yi-Nereen were like opposite sides of the same coin, I’m glad they’ve found a way to be happy with the cards they’ve been dealt. my only complaint is that i wanted more of the romance, i thought it’d be a bigger focus but it wasn’t at all really.. either way, i believe the plot was engaging enough to carry this one through. also loved the dinosaur battles and Screech specifically, just a great duology overall.

i can’t believe this series is over, there **spoiler alert** ”It will be a dark day, a bloody day, a proud day, for this is the day of our wrath.”
i can’t believe this series is over, there were soooo many moments and a few reunions that i absolutely loved. but I’m also surprised that most of the characters made it out unscathed. at the end of the series, my favorite characters are 100% Maquin and Camlin.. Maquin had one of the best story arcs I’ve ever read, the same could be said for Veradis too. watching these events come full circle was every bit as satisfying as i wanted it to be. i also really like how the whole “prophecy” trope was flipped, it gave Corban a chance to rally people to his cause with just his will and capabilities alone. as much as i can see how Nathair bit off more than he could chew, part of me never warmed up to him at all.. he did it to himself and i couldn’t wait for Callidus to die. i’m really looking forward to reading A Time of Dread next!
key moments:
• Corban killing Callidus • Storm with her cubs • Maquin being a badass every chance he got • Veradis killing Nathair • Maquin x Fidele, Veradis x Cywen • every single battle sequence • Camlin’s thirst for vengeance • Corban and Storm reunion ...more

i wasn’t a fan of the previous book, but im so glad i continued with this one cause it was way better. Reggie is the kind of quirky that leans more toward endearing than annoying, he really went out of his way to assist Amelia with her whole fake dating scheme. i think Reggie complimented Amelia so well— she has a more technical and fact based approach to life, while he’s boisterous and goes with the flow. i loved the scenes where they get trapped together at her family’s cabin, there were so many cute moments in general too.
”But for you I would brave a blizzard just to see you smile.”
i actually liked Frederick more in this one, his friendship with Reggie is 100% grumpy x sunshine bromance. im glad Amelia realized that her work and how she chooses to spend her time doesn’t have to make sense to anyone else, only herself. i was rooting for these two the whole time it was also funny how she brushed off him being a vampire cause she thought he was just messing around.. only to be in for the shock of her life later lol....more

”Sometimes, things need first to be ruined in order to then be remade.”
i would say that this was a LITTLE bit better than Gild, but that’s not saying much considering it’s still in the 2 star range. not much happens in this plot wise, but Auren does finally come to her senses somewhat.. she still has a lot of work to do for me to root for her though. i kept getting frustrated cause I’m not understanding why everything is moving so slowly. also, didn’t care for the queens pov whatsoever but im assuming theres a reason she had one. the half star is for the ending only because somehow, i did not guess what would happen at all and it actually took me by surprise. I’m glad to see the mmc making his formal introduction cause at this point, im grasping at every straw possible to continue the series. if Auren sticks to her boundaries, then i can potentially see the other books being more enjoyable....more

all the parallels are unmatched in the cosmere world. Kelsier will always remain one of my favorite characters. im always weary of getting stories from characters who have died, but i really loved getting more of Kelsier in this novella. some scenes actually made me so sad, especially towards the end when he’s reunited with Vin. i appreciated the clarity on the fact that Kelsier truly was guiding Spook from the other side. i just love the mistborn series so much, the way Sanderson has went about “bringing Kelsier back” felt very well thought out....more
