Why I started this book: Summer Reading means fun and flirty romance novels.
Why I finished it: Started it for the fun new werewolf romance. Stayed for the great characters, descriptions of mental health and family relationships. This was my first Connolly book, but it won't be my last....more

His new home has a rare plant in the green house and a local gardener willing to work around Dante's eccentricities. When a body is found and both Dante and the gardener are prime suspects they work together to find the real killer.
Why I started this book: Title. It had all my key words when I look for a new book.
Why I finished it: Charming story and I eagerly await the next book. Very light paranormal elements, one character can see ghosts and it doesn't solve the mystery....more

Why I started this book: New library picture books!

A place she fled with her sister, determined to die on her own terms. What she found was so much better, and that makes going back all that harder. Expecting betrayal, danger and a very narrow path to success... she's determined to do all she can to survive.
Why I started this book: The Witch Roads grabbed me, and I couldn't wait to read what came next.
Why I finished it: The story builds on the adventure and choices made in the first one, continuing on the high stakes games of politics and survival. Elen must guide the prince into her past nightmare, in order to protect her nephew. Compelling story that I devoured. Elliott's website claims that this is a duology, but she left enough open that she can revisit this world....more

Meeting her estranged cousin Vincent was wonderful and reassuring that she wasn't the only hope. But his gift is bigger than her's and she's feeling like a sidekick rather than a hero. Especially since her parents are giving him more attention as they try to train him. But when a routine mission ends without her parents returning, Georgia has to wrestle with asking for help and using her own gift to rescue them.
Why I started this book: Book talked the first book before I read the second, so I knew that I had to read it fast so that everyone else could read it. Part of my middle school summer....
Why I finished it: Charming series that is dealing with real issues of jealousy, belonging and ethics in an age appropriate, non boring way. Plus, I just want to travel through art and space like Georgia and her family. It would be so cool!...more

But on a routine piKathy Valence has failed at everything in her life except her job. She is forty-two, mid-divorce, and pregnant with her ex's baby. But on a routine pick up of a soul, she's a modern-day grim reaper employed by S.C.Y.T.H.E. (Secure Collection, Yielding, and Transportation of Human Essences), is a miss when soul is not there. She's got 45 days to find the soul before seventeen-year-old Conner Ortiz becomes a ghost, forced to wander the earth forever. When she finds him, he tells her that he's been murdered by someone wearing a S.C.Y.T.H.E. badge. To solve his murder, she's going to need all the help she can find. Including her retired friend and her ex.
Why I started this book: Requested and ARC for A Grim Reaper's Guide to Cheating Death and realized that it was book 2, so I checked out book 1 from my library.
Why I finished it: Slow, rough start. Both Kathy and Conner are very rough around the edges and it took time for me to grow to like them. But by mid-book I was cheering for them, hoping that they could survive finding Conner's killer. This was advertised as a mystery but it feels more like a bumbling buddy comedy. And I'm interested in book 2 which is aparrently completely new characters....more

She Nora is an administrative clerk for S.C.Y.T.H.E which means that she see her twin's name on the collection files, hours before he's fated to die. She ditches work, and rushes over to save him. Charlie is up for an adventure, he grabs his gift parrot and they race off to avoid death and all of Nora's co-workers.
Why I started this book: Requested the ARC because of the title alone.
Why I finished it: Book two is a standalone novel set in the same world as the first book. There are no overlaps in characters, so a new reader could pick start with this book. Nora is a walking ball of fears, that she manages by minimizing any and all risks. But she abandons all that to rescue her one surviving family member... her twin brother she hasn't talked to in months. The rescue evolves from a road trip into a quest, as they seek a way to evade fate. Dara is great at character growth, connections and story but once again, the cussing means that I will have to be careful about who I had this wonderful story too....more

And when Vincent falls into one, he thinks that it's just a dream. But later his sister Lili disappears and the only place she could have gone was into the art. Why I started this book: Recommended in theCurrently Reading podcast, I was eager to read something fun for Summer Reading.

But Asil the Moor, a centuries old werewolf, is set up on 5 blind dates by concerned packmates who want to find him new friends... and pull his tail. But each of these blind dates becomes a particular disaster, not just awkward social moments, but blood, monsters and fights to the death.
Why I started this book: So excited since I've reread the three previously published short stories and was thrilled to receive and ARC.
Why I finished this book: Asil, has grown on me, as we have discovered his backstory and seen him progress as a character. And the bud of a relationship hinted at, is fertilized in the new short stories making my heart go "squee." Charming, delightful and like all of Brigg's work, it leaves me wanting more and ready to reread what she has already published. On a side note, I love that Briggs writes short stories in anthologies, and then periodically publishes all her short stories in a book. It makes it so much easier to find them again in my digital library. Plus, she always adds a few more never published stories to the collection....more
