I was intrigued by several pieces that were laid out to potential explain the reason why Nate was able conceive, that I expected to come later in the story that just...didn't. While I recognize this is a series and that those bits might show up later, it felt like they were important to these MCs and their story and I was left scratching my head. It just felt incomplete and unsatisfying. I also grew tired of all the lizard comments Nate made toward Alistair. It got old after a while and didn't feel like banter or teasing or endearments, it just felt juvenile. I did enjoy the peek into the family as a whole, the brothers and father. And, Olive - that bit was hilarious and I love how her entrance into the family progressed. At this point it's 50/50 whether I'll continue with the series. ...more

And, I'm waiting to post my highlights because I don't want to contribute to someone (you) reading them here because I feel like I'd be taking something from you; I'd be stealing away the that little bit of literary magic. Gray and Jonah are so flawed and messy and tender and perfect. Riley Nash created a story almost wholly dependent on these two characters alone, minimal - but often poignant and powerful- page time from other characters and it didn't feel like anything was missing. This reaches the top spot for the 280+ books I've read (or listened to) so far this year....more
