Blood, gore, magic and betrayal what isn’t to love in Enchantra. This book picks up months after Phantasma ended. I’m giving this five stars despite several details that the author didn’t rap up in this book i.e. Farrow’s fate. He played a major role in Vivi’s mind so his not getting his kind of made me scratch my head. My other pet peeve is the mortality issue, how will that work when her sister will never age. But that’s my problem, not the authors. Besides my pet peeves this is a solid paranormal fantasy read in an alt universe where both humans, demons and other paranormal exist. Smith has some cool world building, but her time line and the Grimm mom’s life span had me a tad perplexed. If his kids were stuck in this curse for hundreds of years, then he was married when he knew Tessie Grimm, but that would mean he left his family for a decade to hang around her. This bump on the continuity road almost cost the book a star, but since the series isn’t finished I assume this will be expanded on. ...more

I had leaving bad reviews, but this book has a female main character that is beyond stupid, to the point of irritation. The premise of the book is good, but the author tries to had to make this book A Discovery of Witches, Outlander, etc, with time lines over lapping. Where good authors can pull this off Lancet unfortunately fails. It’s not even that Lancet is a bad author she just mingled far too many genres into one book, trying to be everything at once, which results in a forced plot and the book has no organic feel. Plus the irritating female character. The author assumes that every reader has read Austen’s Northhanger Abbey, having referred to herself as being like Catherine. Which if one hadn’t read the book, leaves a reader with no context. Yes, I was pulled in by hen premise but the execution was subpar.
Furthermore if an author is going to write in different time periods the actually use the language of the time periods written. The language used is completely 20th and 21st centuries, including micro aggressions coming from a 1955 woman. This doesn’t even cover the historical missteps written. This book actually gave me a headache with the whiplash character dynamics, to the point I wasn’t going to finish it but I did. Lord help me I finished it. ...more

First, I loved the world the story takes place in, the author built it with a social divide which set up the story. UnfortunatelyGood, but not GREAT!
First, I loved the world the story takes place in, the author built it with a social divide which set up the story. Unfortunately for me the author didn’t give me the reader enough of the quiet moments to propel the romantic aspect of the book. She wrote great battle scenes in the gladiator arena, but pretty much took a page out of GRR Martin where everyone is expendable. Which was a shame. At some points the battles were too drawn out and the back story to the conclusion suffered for it. Yes a recommend the book, but if you are expecting to get swept away by the romance you’ll be disappointed....more

The book of coarse is romantasy on an Ancient Greek framework of the authors making. I really liked the female main character names Lia, she was determined and fiery. The male main character Jason is irreverent and flirty. At times I felt the connection between the two characters, but at others the romance part felt a tad pushed. I wish the author would have given me more quiet moments between the two without the physicality. The romance needed those and they are hinted at by Lia, but it happens off page. Another part that the author needs to flex her fantasy writing is in describing the characters surrounding. Seeing the actual temple without descriptors was a tad hard. It was like the characters surrounding were just void area. I know it was in the authors imagination but it wasn’t translated to the page. The spice level is pretty tame despite some kissing, so if you pick this book up for spice you’ll be disappointed. What won’t disappoint is the authors world building. There are a few holes in it, but considering this is the author first foray into the genre she is give a pass. The audiobook narrator is actually one of my favorites and I could sing the praises of Theresa Plummer all day.
This was written on my phone so hopefully not too many errors....more
Author Marni Mann delivers another amazing addition to the Spade Hotel series. It is actually my favorite and 4.5 Stars! The One IS the one to read!!
Author Marni Mann delivers another amazing addition to the Spade Hotel series. It is actually my favorite and that's saying a lot because they're all so good!
The One focuses on Rhett and Lainey's story. It is a second chance romance with all the feels. I was not expecting the angst. It was heartbreaking in the best way. Unexpected, captivating, steamy, and completely addictive.
Rhett is the perfect hero. Grumpy, sexy, alphahole with secrets that haunt him. Lainey is the one that got away. My heart broke for them. Their journey is an emotional rollercoaster. I could not put this book down. ~ Maria ...more

Both the kindle book and the audiobook do not line up. Eli becomes the villain in this book, which hurt my heart. In Chapter 10, the plot holes don’t line up, with the ending. Then the end of the book doesn’t even line up with what happened, prior with Eli, Gunnie, Peter or Felicia. Then a character in three of the books dies without fanfare, and another plot hole as no shots are fired but the character is shot in the back. Guess Harris wanted the final book to go in another direction without this character. This book is a muddled fake melodrama mess. This felt like a rough draft published. ...more

Girl finds fiancé banging a blond, cries for a week. Goes out with her roommate, grabs a new dudes junk and insta love with a billionaire boxer mafia hit man. I actually bought the audiobook, and the narrators not laughing while narrating this book gets it three stars. I’m not trying to be a “Karen”, but the huge verbal pronouncements is what killed this book for me, plus absolutely no character development. Lots of owning sex does not make a book. ...more
