I don't mind the misunderstandings trope, but if you don't like it, you may get frustrated with this book. Thankfully it's very much equal opportunity on both sides at multiple points during the book so you won't want to slap sense into one character more than the other.
Shyla was an excellent female lead. I admired her kindness and tenacity. Yelled "JUST KISS HER" at the book many a time.
CW: sex work, escape from harem, misogynistic villains, semi-attempted SA (moreso implied than attempted, very tame, did not get far at all)

I showed it to my young daughter as well. Before this, she never picked up anything except animal books. As of today, she's read something like 10 Ralph Compton books. Now she loves Westerns just as much as her other favorite genres. Thank you for expanding young horizons!

Told from the story of the investigators and prosecutors, the book deep dives into victims and their lives, rather than the murders themselves, and explores the socio-economic challenges, the political issues that ultimately made it harder to catch the killer, and culture of shame and sensationalism at the time of the murders. Overall, I found it to be very enlightening and it made me appreciate the men and women who were trying so desperately to catch this man.

I’ve tried to read shifter stories in the past, only to DNF because I must’ve picked up the wrong volume or just didn’t understand the lingo. This book left me wanting to really explore this genre further.
The characters were fantastic. Mary is definitely my fave. I loved her and I hope she appears in future books. Maybe becoming a future first female alpha because F*** DAMIEN.
With a fresh unique premise and setting, I’m excited to read the next volume. Thanks for a great vacation read! ...more

You kinda go in knowing this, though, since it's between a barely legal FMC and her ex-stepfather. The book flips between being hot and fairly uncomfortable with the subject matter when it's not in the bedroom. I'm not easily triggered but others might be.
5 stars because overall, I did enjoy the steamy scenes, and that's why I picked up the book, so it didn't disappoint!
TWs: taboo relationship, rape/incest (off-screen, not the FMC)

I absolutely loved this book and ended up getting the special editions directly from the author as well as the full e-book series. I started listening to it on audiobook and the audio version is fantastic, the narrators are well-suited to this story. I tapered off it just because I was short on time and being the holidays I needed to switch to a more discreet reading style being surrounded by family. ;)
As someone with a chronic illness, this story was a breath of fresh air. Atlas's care of Lauren through her diabetes and not just seeing past her symptoms but embracing them was heartwarming and great to experience.
