When you're reading a big book that is consuming most of your time, you must be in want of short books to squeeze in between to keep yourself motivated. Well, The Reluctant Dragon did the same for me. A book to bring smile to your face. Sometimes you can't ask for anything more.
If you want a great book for children, this is the one for you. It will best be a bedtime story. It tells a charming tale of friendship between a human and an animal. Not to forget, a short read.

This is a tale of a dragon who is sweet, simple, and human friendly. He doesn't want to fight. Yes, he is that good, unlike other folks of his type. Also, he is not afraid of his human mates who are supposed to pose danger to his life. He wants to coexist with them. He likes the place and the people. The question is, will his nature win the confidence of these people who are afraid of him and are planning a way to get rid of him?

Go and read the book and it will bring a positive impact on you and a smile when you close the book. One piece of advice, if you're listening to the audiobook version of The Reluctant Dragon, Anton Lesser is the perfect narrator in my belief. I had such a fun time listening to this book.

Do selfless good deeds exist? Yes, it does. Unfortunately, not in human beings but, in nature. Everyone who is a fan of FRIENDS knows where this is coming from.
The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein tells the story of a boy and an apple tree. From childhood to the time he gets old enough, the boy keeps demanding things from the tree to make his living better, and the tree selflessly keeps on fulfilling his selfish demands till the time there is nothing left for it to offer anymore. It is a super impactful book meant for children, that evokes a lot of emotions if an adult reads it. This book holds a great value of RESPECT in my heart.

I think it is important to teach kids to treat people with respect and value to those who shower their love and care upon them. It is very important to imbibe this sense of 'not being selfish' to those who deserve immense love. I see this book as a coin having two sides. On one side, I see the story of selflessness, love, generosity, care, and belongingness whereas, on the other side, I see the story of selfishness, greed, ungratefulness, immorality, and destruction.
"I wish that I could give you something...but I have nothing left. I am just an old stump. I am sorry."
There are so many things to take away from this teeny-tiny book. We, as human beings, only know what to take from nature. And nature gives endlessly. Selflessly. Without us returning anything back to nature. When does this one-sided relationship become two-sided? Maybe, never.

Having read the previous books in the cat and the hat series, it felt like something was off with the writing. It didn't click to me like Dr. Seuss'. Later that night, I got to know through one of my friends that it was one of the last works of his before his death. It was in 'unfinished draft' stage which was later finished by her daughter.
It shows in the writing. It wasn't playful, it wasn't whacky. But still, not a bad work. I enjoyed it, just not more than others, to say the least.
