This book was almost pure fluff perfection except for the commentary about parents having the most difficult job (uh, no one forced you to have kids) and Jo’s biological clock…just, gross. A woman can still decide to have kids when she’s 50! The whole “biological clock” concept is grotesquely misogynistic!!!
Despite that, I do feel this is the strongest entry in this series. It made me laugh, it had obvious Pride & Prejudice parallels and I really enjoyed Jo’s character.
Taking this as it is, fluff, it was a fun read. ...more

When you start reading, the story is already going 60mph and it’s like “wth is going on?” There’s a million characters. The main characters have known each other for an hour before the female seeks out the male and they hook up. Oh. And they have zero chemistry.

Lots of smut (not complaining!) and a vomit inducing nickname! If anyone ever called me “honey girl” I would deck them.
I did like following Dominic and Rosie’s journey…I like that Rosie realized her role in the state of their marriage and I liked seeing Dominic really work on himself. And I’m always down for love languages!
It took me a couple days to get through because it just simply wasn’t all that captivating. It was average. It wasn’t bad, but I wasn’t on the edge of my seat with any kind of anticipation. ...more

Watching Georgie chip away at Travis’s icy façade was cute and of course they’re both insecure and afraid to admit how they feel. I understand why the author threw in the fake dating trope but I don’t know that it was necessary. Maybe it should have happened earlier instead of after the two started bonding and getting physical. It was a bit much and a stronger plot device could have been used to create the angst.
Why? Why? Why does this author like pet names like “baby girl?” No offense to those who like that, but I can’t stomach it. lol it didn’t feel authentic to Travis at all and pulled me out of the moment every time.
Overall, fun read. This book (like the third entry) gets hot and heavy and stays that way so the pace is understandably fast…but how did Georgie get into Travis’s apartment at the beginning? Maybe I missed that ...more

T**spoiler alert** Read this in one sitting and truly enjoyed it. I think Queenie is my favorite…when they agreed to adopt her, I literally squealed. The author could have tackled the content in many different ways, but taking this at face value, it’s a short and brief story almost anecdotal in nature. We meet Anna who is in deep despair/grief and we watch her slowly come back to life. As I’m writing this review, thinking of what the author could have done differently, and none of it really matters. This tale serves its purpose and left me satisfied.
UPDATE: I’ve re-read this book twice and it holds up. Bring on the shorter side, you can read it pretty quickly almost like a movie. I like Anna and Keane very much so it’s nice I can pick this up and revisit their story. ...more

The dialogue was stilted and elementary. There was nothing at all appealing about the lead. In fact, he seemed quite self centered and self absorbed. What was so special about Lucy anyway that would lead him to travel about Europe to find her? There just wasn’t enough there to really make this enjoyable at all and what was there read like something I wrote in high school. The only reason I’m giving this two stars is because there were some hilarious moments that made me genuinely laugh…not an easy thing to do, so kudos. ...more
**spoiler alert** Really a 3.5 or 3.75 rating is appropriate here. I started the book only to realize it was book 3 in a series but I don’t feel like I was ruining much by reading it anyway. The chemistry between Noah and Alexis is palpable. Some of the family drama was a little…meh. Alexis’ half-sis is one of the most unlikeable characters I’ve EVER encountered and then the link between Noah’s dad and Alexis’ dad…too campy. Too cheesy. Outside of those minor things, I enjoyed Noah and Alexis’ growth which ultimately gives them a solid foundation as a couple.
Oh, and the guys in the book club? Love. That freaking Russian…hilarious!
REREAD on 4/29/22 and upgraded rating to 4 stars from 3
I read books 1 & 2 and decided I had to reread 3 before I read 4. I wanted to refresh my memory, see how it held up and I wanted some Noah and Alexis action! The good news is, my opinion is still intact. These two are my favs in this universe still (CLOSELY rivaled by Vlad/Elena). I did skip through much of Alexis’ family drama cuz Candi is still ew and Cayden is double ew. Love...more

I’m not even going to get into the whole philosophical angle of this tale. The ending completely ruined it for me. I red, hot hate vague and ambiguous endings. I would rather Nell’s death be confirmed then this crap. I hate that such a gorgeous cover was wasted on this drivel.
It bugged me too that she and Felix were apart for 7 years but just kinda picked back up? Don’t buy it.
I did enjoy the mystery and intrigue. I knew William was Wally almost straight away but I liked being on the journey with the characters. And yes, there were LOADS of characters but I liked how the perspective changed as each divulged their role in the tale. Why so much death though? And I like how we just easily sweep over the messy parts like Tamera coming back to life and the police investigation into Nell. I guess it was somehow revealed that Wally was the true perpetrator?
Ok…I still don’t get why Wally went so nutso over Agloe or why Tamera had to stay there or Nell, for that matter. I mean, these were MAJOR plot points the whole story hinged on but they were weak, ambiguous and unclear. How am I supposed to identify with a character if I can’t understand their motivation.
Also a pet peeve, you’re well into a book and an author uses a word that sticks out and then proceeds to use it in excess. In this case “myriad.”
So, while I did have fun reading this book, the ending killed me. It was complete and utter shit. I didn’t want Felix’s narration to be my ending…at least end it with Nell. Unless there’s going to be a sequel, it was absolutely unnecessary to end it this way. ...more

Even though I have no children and have never been married and we don’t really know much about the narrator, I identified with her. There were several, poignant passages/lines I documented as I read. The truth of them striking and startling.
I felt as though Cusk was saying hi to the reader when the narrator acknowledged some people would think she’s crazy for going off on a boat with a stranger because that was all I kept thinking!
I’ve been in a habit lately of blowing through books, but I couldn’t with this one. And I’m glad. I feel it forced me to really stay present and engaged with something subtlety meaningful. I’m looking forward to continuing the series. ...more
