I liked that Ruby addressed the uneven power dynamics in this one. It pains me to do this to you, Regine, but this book was a miss for me. It felt a little phoned in at times to me. This wasn’t necessarily a deal breaker since the premise was interesting.
What really knocked down my rating was the FMC and how the two mates situation was executed/handled. The FMC knows early on that she wants both MMCs, plots about it, and ultimately decides not to say anything until the situation blows up. And my god does it blow up badly! I wasn’t a huge fan of MMC 1 after the blow up, but I did sympathize with him. It felt like he got forced into a polygamous relationship that he didn’t sign up for, but was open to out of a sense of love for both of the other MC. Meanwhile, MMC 2 just deserved better all the way around.
I’m going to continue the series because I am interested in the world. I’m hoping the series gets better, and I’m going to assume that book one was a fluke....more

She desperately needs control of her corner of the world based on her past and I get her. My only petty complaint would be that Ruby left us with another mystery that she isn’t going to solve for us right away. ...more

Meh it wasn’t a bad book, but it wasn’t my favorite. The FMC has PTSD, anxiety and is going through an identity crisis because she is a clone. I love Meh it wasn’t a bad book, but it wasn’t my favorite. The FMC has PTSD, anxiety and is going through an identity crisis because she is a clone. I love when Ruby tackles mental conditions in an alien setting, but this was a miss for me as I felt like this FMC really really needed therapy. Unlike the other FMC on Risda who have something going on, hide at their farms and don’t have an extensive support system that they can trust this FMC does. So it was frustrating that she doesn’t utilize it and no one encourages her to take baby steps for the better until almost the end of the book.
It made sense to me while they were in space, but it’s mentions that the ship has been docked for months on the human settlement and nobody thinks hmm I wonder if it’s somebody here who can help her. Instead she’s coddled and allowed to frequently modify her body via piercing to make herself feel better. It’s frustrating to read. I think I would have enjoyed this book so much more if part of the plot involved the FMC reaching out earlier on her own for help.
The MMC is a standard issue hopelessly in love Ruby cinnamon role. I really did like him. I felt bad reading the FMC continuously yo-yo him around, but I think her issues were bigger than the cute alien love story package this book came in.
I did like the direction this series is taking with all of the side characters from the Scarlett gaze. My three star rating is based more on the strength of liking the MMC and the stories to come in this series. Here’s to hoping the next one is a better read for me. ...more

It was a nice taste of what this author can do. I really liked the MMC. The FMC was okay. I’m a little so so on their ending. It felt a little abrupt for the FMC to all of a sudden be in love with the MMC. I think it may have helped if it was more hints that she had deeper feelings for him prior to the journey or if it was a longer book and we saw her falling for him during there journey to find the FMC sister. Without something like that it feels a little impulsive on her end and leaves the love story feeling slightly unbalanced....more

This was a ham and cheese fest of a read. I read a lot of crazy, but even I couldn’t suspend belief for this one. The premise of the book is the current USA government found a bunch of animal spliced men who were created to be soldiers. These guys have never been around women. The government wants to socialize them and gets the bright idea to hire a bunch of woman to teach them various life skills top secretly. None of the women know what they are signing up for outside of having the guarantee that their student debt will be erased and they will get a $200,000 payout. They also will be cut off from the outside world for two years.
The woman are shocked when they find out about the guys, but get use to it quickly. In the hoopla of all of this you have a military colonel who doesn’t want any fraternization between the spliced men and woman. So many questions on what the ultimate plan was with scenario. Why weren’t trained military women brought in for this?
This whole book reads very hammy. It’s mildly entertaining to read like watching a poor quality made for TV movie. I don’t see myself continuing the series as I can’t get past the lackluster story telling and premise....more
