I love Dune. The original books, and the Lynch film, are some of my favorite things. I like Anderson's other scifi writing, and the Dune prequels are I love Dune. Anyway, 'Duty Calls' is another entertaining addition to Sandy Mitchell's Ciaphas Cain series, chronicling the exploits and accidental heroism of the reluctant protagonist. Do I feel a little embarrassed that I'm reading mass market science fiction? Apparently not. Next to the Horus Heresy series and Dan Abnett's books for Games Workshop, Mitchell's series is tops. ...more

In high school for a while I even adopted the name 'Turin Turambar' as a pseudonym in my sketchbooks. This book collects Tolkien's writings of the tale of Turin, and I liked it. Made me want to go back and re-read all of the many volumes of the History of Middle Earth....more
