It just felt outdated, and it was hard to know what was still up-to-date and what wasn't. We had a pandemic. We have old wars going on and new wars in Europe started. We have right-wing politics on the rise, basically world-wide. We have a climate crisis that no one takes serious enough. We took a few steps back regarding women's rights and so on and so on.
I cannot listen to a book that claims to be from a possibilist and not an optimist (I'm not sure about that) when so much negative stuff happened since the book got released. And yes, I learned a few interesting, POSITIVE things, but they definitely should not have taken over 8 hours... (2 hours max). I was not a big fan of the writing myself either, it felt repetitive, one-sided, and the monkeys were mentioned 20 times too often.
This would have probably been a 3.5-star read for me in 2016. A 4-star read if it were a LOT shorter. But now and like this? A 2-star read at best. ...more

I feel like I have already written half a book about the book discussing this with my girls from ALLURE as our BOTM, but here we go with even more words to sum up my thoughts without spoilers and to have something to read before the second book comes out in two months ...more

Okay Days starts as a sweet romance between Sam and Luc during her summer stay in London. This evolves into a much more real, Sally Rooney-esk story of two young people in their twenties learning about life, jobs, addiction, friends, responsiblity and true love.
This book is for anyone who is into Sally Rooney (Normal People, Conversations with Friends and Beautiful World, Where Are You) or André Aciman (Call Me By Your Name). A real, slow book with a love story that is more than realising you are into the other person. That does not end with a "1 year later" chapter at the end showing the FMC and MMC married and expecting...
Even though I didn't always identify with Sam and Luc when it came to their decisions. I could still follow their intentions. Young people make mistakes, learn about the world they live in, struggle with money and with finding the right place to stay and call home,...

This is a story about Elsie and Ben. They fell in love when picking up their pizza and never expected to fall so freaking hard. They got married only six months after their first encounter, and everything felt like a fairy tale until Ben dies only 9 days after the wedding.
Bens dies in the very first chapter, and at first I was like, how can I feel with Elsie at page 8 or whatever? But I did. Oh, how I did... I cried in the very first chapter, and I ugly cried with Elsie at the hospital. ...more

"Maybe, I think, Quiet Alex is like a coat that he puts on before he walks out the door. Maybe this is Naked Alex."
The context might be relevant to this quote, but if you know, you know, and I felt personally attacked when I read this description.
I went through a lot of emotions throughout the book:
- I loved the friendship development, the shared moments and especially the inside jokes - "This [book] speaks to me" ...more

"It's just me. Like she isn't fucking everything."
This was such an amazing enemies-to-lovers romance set in a hotel around Christmastime. I adored the conversations, the insights and background information, and the electricity between Lucas and Izzy, and I just adored them both so freaking much.
There were so many details that went into every character to complete the story. The overall plot is not groundbreaking but very entertaining, adorable, somewhat emotional, a little steamy and very enjoyable and unputdownable.
More than I was expecting and my third but definitely not last book by Beth O'Leary.
