AlMaybe now that I've worked out how *I* think it might have gone down, I can finally let go of this true crime case that has haunted me for decades.
Although I use a lot of true crime as inspiration, this is the first time that every baffling and contradictory detail of the original (fictional) crime is based so closely on a real case. It will be fascinating to see what theories you come up with!...more

But it's done, I'm happy with it, and on to the 8th and... Probably not final book. I love writing this series so much: the characters, the village, the pirates...
It's one of my only series I can see running for quite a while longer. But one book at a time.
So happy to share the latest adventure with Ellery, Jack, and Watson. ;-) The entire kooky cast of Pirate's Cove will return in May 2022. So happy to share the latest adventure with Ellery, Jack, and Watson. ;-) The entire kooky cast of Pirate's Cove will return in May 2022. ...more

It requires delicacy, finesse, a light hand. You've got to find a way to make--not murder itself--but the investigation of murder, amusing. So humor has to be a huge part of that recipe. And humor is always tricky. ...more

But now... The World is Too Much With Us as Wordsworth said, and it's comforting to turn to this particular literary art form. Sure, it's not every reader's cup of tea, but I find something zen-like in the structure and discipline of creating a world that...makes sense. :-D I'm planning on an eight-book series. The longest series I've done yet--and that's largely possible because of the episodic nature of cozies. ...more

These guys would die for each other in a heartbeat--it's the living together forever that challenges them. But they're learning. And their love is all the stronger for the journey. I know it was tough on readers having to wait through so many postponements, but no regrets. This was not a story I wanted to rush--or characters I wanted to say goodbye to. ;-) ...more

So much so, that I think after this three-book arc ends, I'm going to go ahead and continue the series--although I don't know that the following three books will be a tight arc like the first three. There are so many things I want to explore in this world and with these characters.
It was a pleasure to work on this--I'm really delighted with how it all turned out (and I hope we can do it again some time). It was a pleasure to work on this--I'm really delighted with how it all turned out (and I hope we can do it again some time). ...more
