Edvard’s ten year old nephew, Isak, is in disbelief that his uncle could be capable of such a thing. No one was closer to Isak than his beloved uncle and with him in prison, Isak is left to cope alone. The murder has left a stain on the family and they are ostracized by the small community.
The story follows Isak’s as he navigates his path to adulthood. At the same time Vidar, whose life has also been changed by the murder, keeps a watchful eye on Isak.
I enjoyed this book. The personalities of the characters were described well. I liked learning how the police investigation went from Vidar’s point of view. Especially how much he had to go through to make sure he sent the right person to prison.
I was shocked at all that happened. I can’t say because of spoilers but the story is thrilling! Lots of suspense and hair raising moments.
This is not an over the top, unbelievable, crime thriller. This is an intense police investigation. I would say it’s closer to Ann Cleeves that a Riley Sager.
The author, Christopher Carlsson, is a professor of criminology as well as a highly admired Scandinavian crime writer. I look forward to reading all his books!

A boyfriend and girlfriend go on vacation together. The girlfriend wakes up in the morning to find a dead woman in their Airbnb and her boyfriend has disappeared. Missing White Woman, is full of clever twists and suspense. Every couple of chapters had my jaw dropping at the unexpected reveals. I had no idea who the murderer was until the very end.
Unfortunately for me the end was very quick and left me unsure of what happened. The killer is revealed, but then, in the epilogue, a new character introduces additional information.
I would have liked to know how the murder happened. Possibly have the narrator go back and look at the clues and tell how everything came about. As it is, there’s no way to tell if it was possible. I liked the book though and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time.
Thank you Goodreads and Kelley Garrett for the opportunity to win this book!...more
It’s been a while since I read, The Girl Who Lied, Shannon’s first book in the Chief Maggie Riley crime series and I had forgot5 stars all the way!!!
It’s been a while since I read, The Girl Who Lied, Shannon’s first book in the Chief Maggie Riley crime series and I had forgotten the heart pounding suspense!
Their Angel’s Cry lived up to the same expectations! I could not put it down!!! The cover blurb says it’s a Totally Compelling and Jaw-Dropping crime thriller and it’s the truth!!
I almost got whiplash because of all the suspense happening at once. Each character’s point of view is told with their own chapter heading and they alternate chronologically.
I can’t say much or I’ll spoil it but if you like thrillers you have to check this one out. It can be read alone but you will miss out on the story building of each character. There is enough in the book to give you an overall idea though.
Mother Daughter Murder Night is a lighthearted, who-done-it, mystery murder with a dash of fun and generational drama.
Although it was predictable, I Mother Daughter Murder Night is a lighthearted, who-done-it, mystery murder with a dash of fun and generational drama.
Although it was predictable, I gave it 5 stars because it kept my attention and the mother, daughter relationships evolved in a meaningful way.
If you like murder mysteries that are less horrific, police procedural and more amateur-sleuth, searching for clues, then you’ll like this one!
I liked the relationship progression between the three generations of women and how they are forced to work out their differences to solve the case. I also liked learning about the California coastline sloughs and the wildlife that live there. It was a fresh setting for a murder mystery. ...more

I love the way Rachel Hawkins keeps the suspense rolling through EVERY character’s part of the story. Even though she switches between 3 points of view, Cam, Ruby and Jules, each story was good enough that I was never yearning to skip through one to quickly get to another. They were all captivating and filled with juicy secrets!
I did, however, find it predictable but that was part of the fun. I was intrigued to see if I had guessed each reveal correctly and it never stamped out my curiosity.
It was a bit over the top with all it’s crazy, dislikable characters but it was a fun read!
