This s3.5 stars - This author is new to me and since I am in a bit of a mystery run on books, I thought it was a great choice for something different.
This story is as quirky as they come. It gave me distinct cozy mystery vibes, but with a ghost narrating parts of the book, it becomes a fun story with a few minor twists.
For me, Cordelia, the ghost, was the best part of the story as we get to see life from her side of the world. Trying to figure out how to be a ghost was humorous and the interactions with the living housemate were a trip as well.
I did not get a full buy-in from the other characters, however. For me, there was not a lot of excitement and thrills. Ruby, the housemate, was a bit annoying and clueless sometimes. Other characters were incorporated but no one really stood out as interesting and exciting for me.
The ending was a definite twist, and while it was beyond needed, it almost seemed rushed too.
A New Lease on Death is a cute cozy mystery that is simple and straightforward but fun. Top points for the cute cover!!

This book was so subtle with the way the story slowly changes and becomes more charged the further you dive into the pages. I love the small-town, down-home atmosphere that captivates your senses. The relationship’s developed and the culture of the Appalachians is strong in this one.
Mind Games is a story about unique gifts and growing up “different” than the others. It gives us strong family connections, amazing friendships, and doing for others.
It also brings horrible crimes and evil to shatter the peacefulness. It is about doing the right thing, control, and righteous payback which brings us to a fabulous, sweet ending!
Roberts is the Queen of her own mind games that she weaves into her stories to grab our attention. This story is twisted in many ways, but the satisfaction you find at the end makes it all worthwhile!

First, this book is a part of a series that must be read in order. Missed that when I picked up this book for review.
Secondly, this story focuses quite a bit on the paranormal with quirky psychic abilities, creepy locales, and a few disturbing characters that are clearly only out to murder you.
While the plot was well laid out and interesting, the conversation and interactions between the characters seemed flat and missing a spark. The Night Island failed to engage me and many parts just felt very strange. Plus, for those who love the romantic aspect, it is almost a second thought, added at the last minute. I wanted more for them.
For me, this book brings mixed feelings. It was good but not something that sucked me in or excited my senses. Book three is still to come as well, so look for that one to complete the trilogy.

What Became of Magic by Crutcher is inventive and definitely original. To me, it read more like a children’s story. There are parts that reminded me of the P.D. Eastman book, “Are You My Mother?”, and I could not shake that feeling as the characters wandered through this mystical world looking for people. It also reminds me of a video game where people you run into have a clue and you’re trying to figure out if you follow them or not.
That’s not to say the author didn’t knock herself out and develop a story that is perfect for those that enjoy fantasy paranormal-type details. But it was not one that I found engaging or enjoyable, personally.
Crutcher loaded this book with detail and imagery that puts you inside the story—characters that are lovable and hate-able, and some that are questionable.
If you love mystical lands and mystical people, check this one out! As for me, sorry, I am out.

Continual twists. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There are a few things in books that I tend to stay away from and this particular one edges on one of the genres I don’t do. Horror.
While I don’t mind reading about supernatural content, I tend to stay more in the suspense, thriller genre than in the demonic, anti-Christian genres. This one is right on the border and I was uncomfortable many times! Most definitely because the author has the descriptive narrative down pat! Whew~
This book is an addicting read. There are so many different pieces that are coming together in the story. There’s a mystery. There are definitely suspense and thriller parts that get your heart beating. Sprinkled humor and lightheartedness for some levity. The author even blends in romance with a delicious hunk but adds twists you do not see coming.
I have to tell you there are some freaky parts! There is plenty of gore and highly detailed scenes that may make you nervous. With all of that, surprisingly, it was tough to put the book down because you just wanted to see where it was going. Even the name of the book gives you pause.
The writing was top-notch and the story is like non-other I have read that deals with magic, witches, and edges on the dark side. The author definitely nailed it on the creep factor and had me racing to finish it before dark. But what an ending! So worth it!
The Witches of Bone Hill is a read you will not forget!

Do you know how you feel the flow of a story and character development just come together? I’m going to have an unpopular opinion here but I have to say I struggled with fully connecting to this story.
I’m not sure what it was but I did not feel overly connected to the two main characters. I like the two of them separately, as co-workers. But the romantic hints here and there were certainly downplayed, which I missed.
The plot was fabulous and totally unique for me, but the flow felt off. Plus, it felt like her normal level of excitement and suspense was missing that extra bit of sparkle that would suck me in.
Graham also included loads of history and repetition that bugged me, frankly. Whispers at Dusk has good potential but it didn’t capture me as some of her other books have.
Will I read more of this trilogy? Absolutely, because I think she has something special going on with this story thread and I can’t wait to see how it develops.

Ward is a force of nature with her mad writing skills ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I have to say ashamedly, I know I have missed a few books in the series. Normally it does not matter as once you have consumed enough of the Black Dagger Brotherhood books, you understand the flow and get to know the characters.
This book is a related series of the Prison Camp that also includes some of the original clans. But I have to say, I was missing more of the focus on the main BDB characters. Don’t get me wrong. I enjoyed this story and was easily engaged, but I really missed the deeper connection to the Brotherhood.
This book is full of intense connections and emotions. From evil to lightness and love, we get it all. From gross and raw imagery to hot scenes that reek of testosterone, it is hard not to get attached to the story. (small but hot scene w. m-m)
The characters are complex and incredibly detailed. They are interesting and exciting with vampires, wolven, and humans involved. Ward seemingly writes with a paintbrush as she details scenes and truly paints the picture in your head.
The Viper is a story you will not soon forget with its imagery and raw descriptions. It ends with a baby cliffy that leads into whatever is coming next. So Good!

It is a lesson in history. A Gothic suspense of paranormal eeriness that causes you to hold your breath. It is a richly told, all-consuming story of sinister acts, dark secrets, forbidden love, power, and hate. It is a book you will not be able to stop reading and cannot wait to read again.
This author has made her mark in the literary scene with this work of art that captures your soul on so many levels.
Awesome story for lovers of scary stuff, ghosts stories, secret romance, and bumps in the night. I bet the audio version will be a winner too!!!!

There’s so many different levels and layers to the interior stories that intersect in this book that sometimes is difficult even know where it’s going. She does an amazing job ramping up the suspense, drip by drip. The ending is so not what you expect! She literally did creep me out in several places, but especially that ending. Wow!
I have to give props where they are due and this author is genius when it comes to the subtleties in her writing and ramping up the eeriness of the plot. Her method of telling spooky stories with haunting effects will captivate you and keep you reading long into the night. Well, maybe not a great idea to read this one into the night….

I am definitely not going to spoil one single thing in this review by telling you anything other than what’s in the synopsis. The story is told in such an incredible method that you are reading with bated breath knowing that something is going to happen but you don’t know what or when.
This book is a very slow build, focusing mainly on the two main characters along with other secondary characters, twists, and pieces that are going on around them.
Yes, the Black Dagger Brotherhood is involved but that’s as far as I’m going to say about that. If you have any love for this author, you will want to definitely grab this book.
The bad news is because the ends on a cliffhanger, we are going to be just itching to find out what’s going to happen in subsequent novels. How this woman writes with such subtlety amazes me!
Ward continues to surprise the reader with her intricate development in both her stories and her characters. The interweaving is incredible and yet she manages to focus on singular characters as well. I cannot get enough of this author and the fact she has an incredible ability to magically interlace the story in ways which will make your heart race and sing too!

Inside this man is a mess. Ward takes us through some of his painful past and experiences in order to feel and know what he is dealing with. The intricate detail and complexity of these characters that she’s developing is truly amazing.
There are a few different tangents to the story that come together in the end for a big climax. The story is in depth and perfect addition to the rest of the series. Savhage’s choice of a mate it’s not my favorite character. I found her annoying, overly headstrong, and not supportive enough of him. But that’s my personal opinion.
Overall, this story is addicting and powerful with more development into the complex world the Brotherhood lives in. Great story!

It reminds me of the creepy stories told around the campfire or at sleepovers with your friends. The ones where you try to scare the crap out of everybody.
This author took that and ran the ball with it. I will certainly never look at a deep pool the same way again. Thankfully, mine’s pretty shallow. LOL
The story is told from different perspectives and in two different times. One from the 1920s to 30s and the other from today. We get the beginning of the story in slow drip’s throughout and then we have the present. When the two finally blend together, it’s definitely not all that you expected.
Some things you can guess. Some things you expect. But the ending is definitely a surprise and a creepy one at that.
McMahon loaded this story with psychological twists, psychosis, foreshadowing, the paranormal, and the all-around creep factor. She weaves a magnificent story that sucks you in, while holding your breath, afraid to believe, but yet wondering could it really be true??
This is one book you have to read to decide for yourself!

Do you enjoy reading about paranormal instances? Hooper has developed a story that will keep you reading late into the night. With tales of witchcraft and powers no normal human has, that we know of, Hidden Salem is a story that leaves us wondering if these abilities and Talents can really be true.
Power can make people do evil things and this book is a perfect showcase of creepy crows and subtle manipulation that can overtake and change an entire town. Who do you trust when everyone seems to know your business and who you are?
With chilling twists and well placed turns this story ended with an explosive climax that I wish would have built up just a bit better. It seemed fast compared to the buildup but was satisfying and so unique.
The character build up could have been a bit better in some instances, but I think that could be due to the fact this is a series. Favorite character is definitely Leo, who softens the creepiness, just a bit.
Interesting, captivating, and definitely unique! Hidden Salem is a great choice for the paranormal twist you are looking for.

It’s hard to dive into the review and only tell you bits and pieces of the story. So let me just say that this is yet one more piece of the entire series that makes it so freaking addictive!
Syn is a soft hearted guy deep down. He has not always been a good person and he recognizes his faults. But when he and Jo meet, he recognizes something inside. Some thing pure and wholesome that makes him look at the world differently. Yearning for something more he doesn’t believe he deserves.
I don’t want to spoil this awesome read for you. What I will say is that Ward has an amazing imagination and a talent beyond anyone in this genre.
The Sinner is gruesome but very bad ass at the same time. Full of love and appreciation for each other, these characters are just a perfect example of true friendship. They truly are brothers and a wonderful blend of family.
An amazing story of caring, compassion, and a deep connected love. An explosive story you simply cannot miss!!

But it’s because I don’t normally read paranormal tropes unless it’s one by JR Ward. But it still takes me a little bit to get into the storyline.
This one proved to be a little more difficult because it is definitely one that you want to have read the prior book. I believe these two characters were first introduced in book number 13 of the series.
For me it was a little disconcerting trying to figure everything out but the author is fabulous in time in some of the backstory so I was not completely lost. By the first quarter of the book, I was definitely in the groove!
Besides how can I resist a book like this? A book of everlasting love that transcends reality, or what we know of reality. And that’s what the story is all about.
Intense, highly emotional and deep with feeling, it’s hard not to get emotionally attached to the story. Not to mention it’s extremely sensual and sexual to the very depths of your soul.
You feel the connection between these two. Ward writes in such a way that it feels like you’re in the room with them. Feels like you know them. I guess in a way we really do.
I love Where Winter Finds You. As a reader, we are put through so much along with many tense situations, but through it all have faith that everything will work out eventually.

In this story Proby tells a story about witches and hauntings that is a perfect read for the fall season.
This spooky paranormal romance contains many elements of a creepy, twisted story that will stick with you and make you wonder why you’re reading it at night.
The characters she creates are so complex, completely believable, and leave the door open for a series of books based on the trio of sisters and their unique abilities.
She not only gives us a little touch of the paranormal, but she also involves mystery and suspense. The romance is a fabulous connection and I love that it was just an assumed relationship and leaves out the angst that sometimes goes with two people trying to enjoy each other.
Cash and Brielle are amazing together. He is completely supportive of her throughout the entire book even though believing her had to have been a stretch. Just knowing you were meant to be together is powerful and you totally get that in the story.
Proby definitely has a winner in this fabulous new series kicking off with Shadows. A magically written story full of so many different elements that keeps your interest high and your nerves on alert. Spooky, creepy, sexy, and so dang compelling.
I cannot wait to see what else she brings when the next book comes available!

This book floods the mind with so many emotions. Tension, anticipation, happiness, sorrow. Your heart will feel like a roller-coaster. You will come out feeling a bit beat-up but with a smile on your face. But you truly will understand what the Brotherhood really means when you read this story!
For those that love a great paranormal read, Ward takes us on a journey like none other. Intensely romantic and straight up flipping steamy, violent and gruesome, heartbreaking and deep. Her addictive writing tells a story like none other. She has quickly become a favorite of mine.
If you are looking for a novel that contains so much emotion and imagery you will gasp, cry, and smile within the same chapter, you have to check out this book! She is just flat out an amazing storyteller you will not forget!

I think everyone has an experience where you can just feel something’s not right. Something bad had happened or maybe you feel weird about a building.
That’s the feeling you get within the very first chapters of this book. Whether you believe in spirits or ghosts or not, this is a ghost story. A good one! It creeped me out a few times! But it is also a sad story on many levels too.
Told in chapters of alternating time, you get the story from the girls point of view that live at Idlewild Hall. Their fears, sadness, problems, and their fragile connections. Then we get today’s story. The renovation, after effects of Fiona’s sister’s murder, and Fiona’s diligence to find the truth, no matter the cost.
The author has an amazing talent to craft a story with haunting effects. She gives us a taste of history, a touch of tenuous romance, some great twists full of suspense, and a ending that may surprise you, or not.
The Broken Girls left me with different feelings on many levels. On one hand I hated for the book to end because it was engrossing and just so good. On the other hand, I was anxious to see how the author would wind it up and tie that pretty little bow.
St. James brings mystery suspense to a new level with this book. If you can handle a good mystery that will give you a few creeps, you need to read The Broken Girls. It will stay with you for a while!

On one hand the story itself is really quite good. I love the plot and the great characters. Jax is super hot and the description of him is just yummy. Intense and oozing control, most of the time. And it is those breaks in control that make this man so steamy.
On the other hand, the author spends an excessive amount of time walking us through every single work out and event that Kat had to work through to hopefully get accepted to the team. While I appreciate and feel the bonding between the teammates, the story became a waiting game to see if anything would ever consummate with Jax.
Throughout the whole book you get mainly the build up and deep attraction but not so much on the physical act of their connection. That doesn't mean to say this isn't a sexy read, but the author dragged it all the way to the end. And for reader looking for the hot engagement, that became a bit frustrating.
Overall, the book is extremely well written but there is a lot of repetition in the paranormal versus human aspect. This book is also extremely detailed in the military action aspect so you really need to want to experience that on a day by day basis. Plus the deception issue Kat is bringing to the table is one you know will backfire on the entire potential relationship.
I'm still a little confused on my feelings about this book. I guess you need to decide for yourself.

The bad thing about series is you have to wait much too long, in my opinion, until you get the next installment. The good thing about a series is that you get to revisit those characters you're come to love.
This book was an amazing read from start to finish. It took me a chapter or two to remember where the other book left off, but once I got up to speed, I couldn't get enough.
This book delves into the paranormal and ties in some romantic interest too. Jack is yummy and perfect balance for Ruby. Sweet, sexy, and kind, but yet has secrets that could cause everything to fall apart.
With amazing scenes and an imagination beyond what we would call normal, the author takes us into another world that is somewhat frightening but yet so believable. When you can see angels, demons, and ghosts, you know you are in for a wild, creepy ride.
This series is a beautiful balance of three amazing stories and the ending in The Seven Sins of Ruby Love actually made me cry. Incredibly touching and completely unexpected. You have to experience it firsthand.
For the full effect make sure you start with the first book. That makes the third book even more special....more
