“Thank you", I whispered. "Thank you for coming." "Always", Noctus said.”
Omg okay! This was AMAZING. The only reason I'm not surprised is bc I've had so many 5 star Kitty reads haha
This book was a HUGE upgrade from the previous two. The pining, yearning, angst, the love Noctus and Chloe has is truly something else. This is one of those books where you can say romance isn't dead and it makes you believe in love again. They are UP there with Killian & Hazel and Pip & Greyson.
The character development of all the characters were insanely good. It's amazing how Kitty is able to have so many characters but give them all equal development without one overshadowing another or feeling like too much. I literally got goosebumps in the final few chapters and teared up (Aristide saying he couldn't hear [redacted]'s heartbeat PLSSS it was making my heart condition act up hahahaha).
The plot was a little messy, some bits dragged out more than it needed to but I was enjoying the other parts so much so it wasn't too big of a deal. I wish we got a little more backstory on Aristide and Ker's friendship as well, it's not often we get such a cute M/F platonic pair in a book and I loved their little interactions.
Overall, WOWEE! What a great conclusion to this trilogy. It's very sad that this is the last series in the Magiford universe until Kitty comes back from her hiatus (sending well wishes for her health!). I will be seated for whatever series comes next (yes, even if it's to do with Jade and Considine lol).
I recommend this UF to everyone who loves them some badass FMCs, protective and soft (only for the FMC) MMC, slow-burnnnn (srsly, all of these books are mega slow burn hahaha) and a super super fun universe with fae, werewolves, vampires and elves! “He knew the only way for me to truly fight is if I have something to lose.”
I'm going through a terrible reading slump so it was a miracle I finished this tbh. I liked this book, I liked Lo and Lily. But I think I had most issue with the pacing and where the story started.
I think Lo and Lily would have benefited from the same format Claire & Gibsie had from BOT, where we could see ther bond growing in the BG before we actually got their story. Instead, the story began at the end of their friendship and basically the start of their relationship, so we missed out on all the development and was basically forced to become attached to the couple through flashbacks. I had to check several times whether I was reading this in the right order. This, for me, was a MAJOR letdown for this book and I was a little over it by the end. As I said, I do like the plot and characters so it's a shame.
The addiction part was heartbreaking, but again, it could have been fleshed out a lot more if they had both attempted to detox while being friends.
I think I will be continuing with this series but I'm putting it on hold for now :)...more

“I'm no longer alone. I've got Sunshine, my team, Orrin... and Considine. Especially Considine. Always Considine.”
I'm freeeeee!! This one wasn't as bad as the previous two, to be fair. The last third had the same magic as the rest of the other books have- it's just a shame it took 3 books for me to kind of like it :')
I think the problem with this series is that it was just not giving the tension I was promised between a vampire x vampire slayer. Considine's affections for Jade started pretty early on, but it also dragged on for so long with the hidden identity stuff and Jade being so into her own head. Again, I love me a slow-burn and Kitty's other books have managed to deliver on that, but this didn't. They were cute at the end but it still felt a little flat.
The last third of the book was wonderfully reminiscient of what I know to love about Kitty's books, with Killian and Hazel appearing more and the snake-brat siblings being delightful side characters. Oh! That's another thing. Jade's team just weren't giving as the found family trope. Again, I attribute that to Jade being so in her head, but also there were too many of them for me to feel attached. It was just so meh.
The book had good progression for the wider plot and I'm looking forward to see what new wizard family will inhabit House Tellier, and what will become of Iris!

I pretty much had the same issues with this book as I did with the last book. The extra 0.25 stars comes from the fact we actually get some vampire x vampire slayer romantic tension and general plot progression. Jade is still too into her own head and I’m struggling with her POV chapters tbh.

“I clung to the fae lord, to my husband, who'd once tried to kill me but had settled for stealing my heart instead.”
Aaaaand that concludes Leila and Rigel's story in the Magiford Supernatural City universe!
All the books in this universe are part of a wider plot line, so although the immediate problems were sorted, I'm still revving for the final boss moment :') This book was a bit weaker than the rest bc it made the least sense out of the three. The plot armour goes crazy for this one but I am willing to overlook it bc it's such an unserious book lol. There were many points in the book where I was genuinly baffled why they didn't just take the easy solution instead of all that (but I guess then there'd be no book lmao). However! All the characters were SO endearing. K.M. Shea is an absolute wizard in making side characters shine without overshadowing the main characters and the found family trope goes HARD. I'm going to miss the Night Court family so much!
The romance was kind of crazy lol honestly, most of Rigel and Leila's conflict could have been solved if Rigel could have just communicated. His revelation at the end was also so random and a bit shoehorned in, but I can forgive that bc they're a fun couple. It certainly delivers on the 'slow' aspect of 'slow-burn', less so on the 'burn'. Good tensions throughout too. I just wish this one could have been at least a fade-to-black and not a completely closed door with bolts in bc the wing scene was sizzling and the potential was there hahaha (and I'm not one to usually ask for spice! But Shea does SO well creating chemistry that I can't help but feel it was missing some spice ...more

Ah, the last book in the Magiford series until Kitty's hiatus ends! Chloe, a cat shape shifter, accidentally finds herself become a pet for the scary Elven king, a race that was meant to have died out longgggg ago. And so, this book follows her trying to stay alive while trying to pretend to be a normal cat.

“You will leave our hunter alone. Don't mess with her, don't bother her, don't even look at her.”
Wowzers. Just when I thought this series couldn't get any better?! This is the third series in the Magiford Supernatural series- this time, we follow the werewolves and werewolf hunters. Pip is adopted into the biggest pack in the region at a young age and Greyson is the new alpha of this pack who she is not 100% fond of...
The plot was CRAZY. I was on the edge of my seat after I started putting two and two together and figuring out why Pip was loved by the Pack. This was defo on the tame side for werewolf/pack romances, but honestly, it's perfect the way it is. K.M. Shea is such an incredible author, she is able to put the readers comfortably into the story even though the story doesn't start from the very beginning of Pip's relationship with the Pack. Again, all the side characters are so endearing and I was hooked from the get-go.
The romance... delicious, impeccable, delectable and so so sweet. This is slow-burn with the BURNNNNN. Greyson is an alpha with an incomplete mate bond and searching for his mate... and Pip is the werewolf hunter who he is fond of *wiggles eyebrows*. Greyson is fiercely protective of Pip and vice versa, and I was kicking my feet and squealing bc they were doing all this while trying to deny their feelings. This is more of a dislike-to-friends-to-lovers and I love that. The foundations were built very well for this couple and I can't wait for both of them to come to terms with their circumstances hehe
Overall... this is spectacular, give me 14 of em right now ...more

“If I come to think of you as a threat to my queen, I will silence you forever.”
This was marginally better than the first book and we get a lot more development in Rigel and Leila's relationship. The plot advances a lot more fluidly and I enjoyed reading about the dynamics between all the courts. I do think I enjoyed this one a little more than the first book!
The knocking off of stars comes from how repetitive it was in the middle. It was hunt after hunt after race after race and I was kind of over the court politics side of things. I enjoy the scheming but there needed to be a reason for all these things, I felt like Leila had affirmed her power and position early on and didn't need all this kerfuffle. I felt like we could have focused more on Leila's relationship with her fae father and Rigel (I'm expecting a lot more of this for the last book!).
Rigel and Leila were super sweet as always and I love how it's a true to name slow burn (we just need a bit more of the BURN). Absolutely hilarious how her exaggerated affection for him has turned into him not taking any of her confessions seriously hahaha
Overall, I enjoyed this! I want to see a bit more action and the plot moving forward quicker though.

“You're my sun when I shouldn't be allowed any. I will never love another like I love you and I'll never trust another the way I trust you.”
What a well rounded conclusion to a great series! I enjoyed this a lot, like the first two books. We finally get the showdown between the Night Court and vamps/wizards, as well as a conclusion to Killian and Hazel's relationship.
The side characters are SO lovable (seriously, the Paragon was the 'Steve' in their relationship, it was so cute!). I loved the comaraderie between the vamps and wizards and how things were resolved between the two supernatural races at the end. I'm going to miss the Drake and Medeis family so much :(
Killian & Hazel shone as usual and I loved how Killian grovelled in this haha this is probably one of the first books where it's the bad boy x good girl trope where it isn't toxic! Like the communication between them in this book was giving secure attachment.
I dropped the 0.25 stars for two reasons: 1) I predicted how they'd fight the Night Court lol it was a good startegy but it was predictable :') and 2) A particular scene near the end should have been steamier ...more

I haven't had consecutive 5 star reads for a while... this series has seriously blown me away! This slow burn is making me squeal, kicking my feet and twirling my hair I swear to god!!!
The plot for this book was a little less strong than the first book and the latter half of events was a little nonsensical, but didn't diminish my enjoyment too much. What happened could have happened so much earlier but I also understand why it didn't: Hazel was comfortable and in some ways, grew complacent and comfortable under Killian's house. The main character plot armour was insane though lol but other than that, I was speeding through this book bc I couldn't put it down.
And Killian & Hazel... oh me oh my. He is UP there with book boyfriends (which gets me a little worried because there's so many more books in tis universe... how will they compete with Killian?!). Kind of spoiler but they also don't get together in this book. Now THIS is the definition of slow burn. I am living for both their pining now. When he would watch her from across the ballroom and moniter if anyone was upsetting her... your honour, I NEED him.
I literally need everyone to read this so we can get this series popular enough for a cover redesign LMAO...more
I didn't want to admit it but the more I read, the less I could deny it: this was written like if someone wrote a m˚₊‧꒰ა 1 star ໒꒱ ‧₊˚ SPOILERS AHEAD!
I didn't want to admit it but the more I read, the less I could deny it: this was written like if someone wrote a mediocre fanfic of the Darkverse series and threw it into ChatGPT with the prompt 'please rephrase this as if I had 2 weeks to write a book and publish it'. What the HELL went on with all the characters in this? Why were they all acting so... off?
I have so much but also, so little to say. This is not how I pictured the ending. If this was actually written by a human, then this whole book was the definition of lazy writing bc what the hell was this: 'His eyes locked with Morabna (...) He said so much to her, conveying so much with one look that she didn't have enough words to express it even to herself'. Don't piss me offfffff. Use your words, RuNyx! Why are you acting like you didn't create these characters and have no idea what their feelings are?!
Ik they have a strong connection but the way this book was written felt like a summary of what was actually meant to happen in the book. The chapters all felt like novellas with random one shot sex thrown in. Not to mention how random everything was. Zephyr's dad, Tristan's mum? Vin DEAD after faling in love with a slave girl... pls my head is spinning. But don't worry, Dainn is still the hottie everyone loves!
Tristan was not Tristan. Tristan in book 1 and 2 would NOT have let Morana suffer in silence, let alone focus on punching Dainn instead of helping her off her chains. He also would not have let himself get kidnapped. It was so weird, I've never experienced this with a book where the characters feel so foreign in their own story!
Amara, Dante, Alpha and Zephyr were cute but honestly, added nothing. We didn't get any resolution on the organisation this whole series was built on as well.
I believe the (ALLEGED) 'written by a friend' allegations. And I also wouldn't be surprised if it came out this was written by an AI machine (I have no proof and am not saying it was, but it defo gives the uncanny vibes AI gives). After all, RuNyx books have had AI covers before.
I'm so so so disappointed. The first 4 ish books were UP there for dark romances (I'm ignoring Dainn). This was a dumpster fire....more

“You changed things. And I'm not letting that go, Zephyr. I'm not letting you go. Get that out of your head right now.”
I enjoyed this more than I expected! But as usual with second chance romances, I really struggled to connect with their romance/grow attached to their romance. I loved Alpha and Zephyr as characters but I just couldn't feel much for their relationship. I did warm up to them by the end, but I defo stuck it out to see more of the other couples :')

“Love was too tame of a word, adoration too juvenile.”
Dante motherfcking Maroni!!!!!! He did not disappoint.
The positives: 1) The writing was SO beautiful in this one. Amara & Dante had a lovely poetic quality about them and I loved reading her inner dialogue. 2) I've seen so many reviews say their relationship was on another level and I have to agree. Their love was truly trascendent. 3) I loved the way the plot had advanced from the preivous two books, the revelations were VERY good and I was gripped. 4) Protective Dante and Amara? Chef's kiss. I love how badass Runyx's FMCs are.
The stuff I didn't like: 1) Again, I hated the pacing in this. Funnily enough, I didn't like the way we were whipped right back to them as kids/teens for a while in part 1 & 2. I think this book would have benefitted from a flashback style narration. 2) Okay, I understand the age gap trope. I understand it's a very prominent trope in dark romance, esp in mafia. BUT can we stop making them meet and bonding before one of them is of age?!?! Why the hell was Dante snogging Amara when he was like 22 and she was 17???/ This is the reason I've taken away that many stars. Their relationship in the present day was fine and I loved reading that but everything before gave me a bit of the ick.
Overall, I did like this and Dante & Amara will have my heart... but I don't think I can ever fully overlook how their romance started....more

"Oh, for goodness' sake", tsked Miss Tarabotti, "do sit down." Lord Maccon sat.
That quote there sums up Alexia and Lord Maccon's dynamic throughout the whole book... and I loved it. I've always been quite the sucker for power play and this book certainly does that! I didn't expect to enjoy this as much as I did tbh. We have Alexia Tarabotti, who doesn't have a soul and can neutralise the powers of vampires & werewolves, and Lord Maccon, the alpha of the Woolsey pack. They work together to figure out why rogue vampires & wolves were going missing.
The positives: 1) LOVEDD the banter between our main couple. Super fun and loved how Alexia challenged Lord Maccon and the way he yielded to her every time. Lord Maccon is nearly on the same calibre as Cardan's manwifing. Protective but also kisses the floor the FMC walks on. 2) This was a lot spicier than I initially thought it would be? It was a nice surprise though. No knotting (hello ali hazelwood, i still think about the knotting), but lots of biting & nibbling which was cute lol 3) The fantasy world was interesting. A society where vamps and werewolves and ghosts live in harmony with humans during the Victorian era is unique to me.
The stuff I didn't quite love: 1) The plot was messsyyyyy. It felt like the author didn't know whether she wanted it to be a mystery romance or romance mystery. I would say it teetered to towards being nearly just a romance novel, and the reason she got away with it is bc the romance was good. The ending was like she mishmashed everything into one messy bowl. 2) This would have been a five stars if it was a slow-burn!!!! I get the whole werwolf mating thing, like the fact they are instantly attracted is part of the whole schbang. But I felt like we could have dragged that out a little more with Alexia making him work for it? Or maybe I'm just brutal lmao

Hmmm... this was simply okay. The writing was so clunky, characters and worldbuilding info was just dropped with no context and it was SO confusing. The plot was weak as well, the culprit was someone I didn't even remember Kate mentioning before (probably because there was SO much information to take in). But somehow, the book was still somewhat enjoyable? Like maybe the information got me in such a dizz, I was too confused to know what I actually didn't like.
I enjoy Curran and Kate's dynamic, so I wish we got more of the Pack and Kate's dynamic instead of the whole load of waffle we'd get inbetween Kate solving Greg's murder.
