i didn’t expect to enjoy this book as much as i did—it was such a fun read! the writing was light and engaging, the storyline captivating, and the characters were so likable. if you’re looking for an easy, entertaining book with plenty of humor, this one is definitely worth picking up. it’s fast-paced, charming, and thoroughly enjoyable.
one thing i really loved was the focus on sibling relationships. the bond between lottie and huxley with their siblings was beautifully portrayed. their mutual love, need for each other, open communication, and constant support added so much heart to the story.
⋆౨ৎ˚ lottie. lottie was not only funny but also confident, realistic, honest, and strong—all qualities i admired. she was mature enough to recognize that her fear of conflict was keeping her in a toxic friendship with angela, yet she didn’t second-guess herself. instead, she trusted her own abilities and stayed grounded. i loved how straightforward she was, never hesitating to question hux’s actions or express her feelings openly.
⋆౨ৎ˚ huxley. huxley was incredibly thoughtful, and his kindness really stood out. i loved how he treated his staff with so much respect and care—having early dinners so his chef could spend time with his daughter or buying flowers for the chef’s little girl. he even sent meals and desserts to the families of workers injured on his projects. those little gestures showed so much about his character.
⋆౨ৎ˚ huxley and lottie. their banter was absolutely the highlight of the book—so genuine, witty, and clever. it made their relationship feel so real and enjoyable. huxley clearly cared deeply for lottie, and her compassion for others inspired him to go above and beyond to make everyone around them happy.

this book had me laughing and crying at the same time. it’s a classic friends-to-lovers story, but there’s a bittersweet undertone that really tugs at your heart. is it predictable? maybe, but that didn’t stop me from loving the emotional rollercoaster packed with drama and spice. the characters were so well-developed, each with their own struggles and beautifully unique personalities. the mix of humor and emotion in the story was perfect, and the cozy holiday setting made it feel even more special. now, i can’t wait for august’s book! if it’s anything like this one, it’s going to be amazing.
⋆౨ৎ˚ arabella. she was such a sweet but strong character, and i really connected with her emotions throughout the story. as for arabella—this girl has never truly experienced love and isn’t even sure she’s capable of it. her journey was so heartbreaking, but i do wish she’d go after her dream of becoming a jeweler on her own. she’s so talented, and i know she can do it without her parents’ approval.
⋆౨ৎ˚ rowan. and rowan? poor rowan is so overwhelmed by his emotions that he doesn’t even know how to process them. watching him struggle to navigate everything he’s feeling was both heartbreaking and endearing. he’s caught between wanting to protect himself and opening up to something deeper, and it’s honestly hard not to feel for him as he tries to figure it all out.
⋆౨ৎ˚ rowan and arabella. rowan and arabella’s love story is incredibly sweet. sure, their romance might feel a bit familiar, but the drama and passion kept me hooked from start to finish. the chemistry between them was undeniable, and the playful banter and all the push and pull made their journey so captivating—i loved every second of it!

this was such an enjoyable read. i appreciated the fresh perspective and the change in setting, along with the chance to follow different characters. the development of their relationships was definitely a highlight for me. now, moving on to the plot—the revelations, the spiders, all of it had me completely losing my mind. sarah j. maas’s writing has improved so much throughout this series, and it really shows here. while some chapters felt a bit slow at times.
the main weakness, though, was the slower pace. maas had been steadily building momentum up until the fifth book, but tower of dawn disrupted that flow. i found myself resisting the urge to skim certain chapters, worried i might miss something important for the final installment. it honestly became a bit exhausting. maybe it would have fit more naturally if it had been placed before empire of storms. the relentless pace of the fifth book made this one feel slightly misplaced in the overall sequence.
⋆౨ৎ˚ yrene. yrene is incredibly strong, brave, quick-witted, and such a sweetheart. i really admire how she put aside her hatred for adarlan to fulfill her duty, never once pitying or giving up on chaol during his healing journey. watching her character evolve from what we saw in the assassin's blade was so rewarding. she embodies everything it means to be a strong woman, facing challenges head-on with resilience and grace. her determination to carve out her own future and stand firm in who she does and doesn’t want in her life made her character even more admirable.
⋆౨ৎ˚ chaol. i have to say, i never truly hated chaol. sure, he could be frustrating in the previous books, but i never let that cloud my feelings for him. this installment highlights not just his physical journey to a new part of the world, but also a deeply personal one. he finally begins to release the guilt that’s been weighing him down, guilt over dorian, his men in the guard, nehemia (even though it wasn’t his fault), and nesryn. his struggle with self-hatred was so raw and relatable, and it made me love him even more. chapter 55 brought me to tears with its powerful message, revealing how his anger, fear, and pain were like parasites feeding on him. it was a reminder that the true demons we face are often within ourselves, and only we can choose when we’re ready to fight back and overcome them.
⋆౨ৎ˚ yrene and chaol. i loved the two of them together, and after everything they’ve been through, i’m so glad they found each other. both of them have faced their own challenges and personal losses, and seeing them find comfort and strength in each other was really heartwarming.
⋆౨ৎ˚ sartaq and nesryn. i don’t have too much to say about them, to be honest. sartaq is truly a gentleman, kind, steady, and respectful in a way that stands out. as for nesryn, my feelings were a bit mixed throughout this book. there were moments where i admired her, and others where i felt a little frustrated. by the end, though, it all felt like it unfolded exactly as it was meant to, almost as if fate had a hand in it. yes, she made a few selfish choices, but honestly, doesn’t she have the right to? i also really enjoyed their adventure in this installment. their journey was exciting and added a new layer to the story.
⋆౨ৎ˚ other characters. with hasar, i’m still on the fence about whether i like or dislike her. she could be incredibly irritating at times, but i also admired her brutal honesty and ruthless nature. she’s the kind of character who keeps you guessing, and i kind of love that. i’m really eager for falkan to reunite with lysandra, i think that’s going to be such a heartfelt moment. i’m also curious to see how borte and yeran’s relationship continues to grow. and of course, i can’t wait for chaol and yrene to finally meet up with aelin and the others, it’s bound to be emotional.

it was such an emotional rollercoaster. i really thought the series peaked with queen of shadows because it was absolutely brilliant, but i’ve never been happier to be wrong. the level of planning and strategy in this story is on another level, and the way it all unfolds is just incredible. usually, i like when the reader knows more than the characters, but here, every secret plan revealed had me in awe of sarah and her clever writing.
and i really want to appreciate how all the different storylines finally came together and how everyone is reunited. the build-up to that moment has been so long, and when it finally happened, it felt so satisfying. seeing all the characters back together after everything they’ve been through was everything i hoped for. it’s the kind of moment that makes the entire journey worth it.
and the ending. oh my god. it left me completely heartbroken. lysandra, you’re a hero, and aelin, i don’t even have words. you deserve so much better than what you’ve been through. after everything she’s endured, seeing her have to face that kind of torture again was devastating. she’s sacrificed so much, fought so hard, and yet it feels like the weight of the world is still on her shoulders. it was painful to read, and it left me in tears.
⋆౨ৎ˚ aelin and rowan. she made questionable decisions but i cannot fault her. i’ve loved aelin so much throughout this entire series. watching her journey has been nothing short of incredible. it feels like i’ve experienced every heartache, every joyful moment, every victory, and every loss right alongside her. she truly is a queen in every sense of the word, and i adore her for it. her bravery and selflessness are unmatched. she’s always putting others before herself, even when it means sacrificing everything in the end.
and then there’s rowan. his character is so layered. he’s strong, fierce, and unwavering, but he also carries the weight of his own grief and losses. i love how he’s found his place not just beside aelin, but also with the rest of the group. his loyalty and protectiveness toward her are everything. he treats her like the queen she is, always standing by her side, and it’s just incredible to see.
the love between aelin and rowan is breathtaking. deep, unwavering, and built on a foundation of mutual respect, trust, and devotion. it’s not just about their passion or the way they fight for each other, but the way they truly see and understand one another, even in their darkest moments. they stand as equals, both fiercely protective and endlessly supportive, and that balance makes their bond feel so real. it’s the kind of love that stays with you long after the story ends.
⋆౨ৎ˚ manon and dorian. i absolutely adore manon. she’s fierce, unapologetically ruthless, and completely captivating. i love how she owns every part of who she is without hesitation. her courage to stand up to her grandmother and risk everything for asterin and the rest of the thirteen was incredible to witness. it showed a whole new level of loyalty and strength, and it made me admire her even more. seeing her finally join the main group in this book felt so satisfying. it not only brought her storyline closer to aelin and the others but also added a new dynamic that blended their paths seamlessly.
dorian, on the other hand, didn’t quite stand out for me in this installment. while i enjoyed his interactions with manon, i found myself wanting more from him. more confidence, more clarity, and more mastery over his powers. i really hope we get to see that growth in the next book.
honestly, their connection intrigues me, but at times it feels a little hard to grasp. dorian’s shift in attitude around manon leaves me conflicted, and i’m still not sure how to interpret their relationship. sometimes it feels like there’s something deeper between them, but other times it feels more surface-level, making it hard to fully invest in their dynamic. it has potential, and i do enjoy their interactions, but i’m hoping for more depth, clarity, and consistency as the story continues.
⋆౨ৎ˚ lysandra and aedion. lysandra's loyalty to aelin is truly remarkable, and i really admire her for it. she was willing to give up her own life to take on aelin’s identity, and that’s no small feat. it speaks volumes about her bravery, selflessness, and the bond she shares with aelin. on top of that, she’s an absolute badass who had everyone’s back during the battle at skull’s bay, proving her strength and resourcefulness when it mattered most. every moment she’s on the page is unforgettable.
as for aedion, i do like him, but he’s not my favorite character. he’s well-developed and brings a lot to the ensemble, but he just didn’t stand out for me in this particular book. that said, i really appreciated the moment when he called aelin out. i also wish he and gavriel would really talk to each other. there’s a lot of potential in his character, and i’m curious to see how he evolves moving forward.
i loved the way they cared for and supported each other throughout this book, especially as the stakes continued to rise. after everything that happened at the end of this book, i’m eager to see how their relationships will unfold in the next installment. there’s still so much left unresolved, and i can’t wait to see how they face the challenges ahead as a united front.
⋆౨ৎ˚ elide and lorcan. i immediately liked elide when she was introduced in the previous book, and my admiration for her only grew in this one. she’s such a well-rounded character, and seeing her work through her trauma to help others was incredibly inspiring. despite everything she’s endured, she continues to rise and fight back. i absolutely love her. she’s resilient, quick-witted, brave, adaptable, and resourceful, and the way she used her sharp mind to navigate and escape dangerous situations on her own was truly impressive.
as for lorcan, i have to admit he’s starting to grow on me, but i’m still caught between loving and hating him, especially after that huge mistake at the end. it’s hard to tell how he’s going to redeem himself after that, and honestly, i’m not sure if he can.
i didn’t expect their romance to develop in this book, but i’m completely on board with it. the way lorcan gradually fell in love with elide, almost without realizing it, was so well done. his fierce determination to protect her, even when he didn’t fully understand his feelings, really struck a chord with me. their relationship has so much potential, and i can’t wait to see how it evolves in the next book, especially after everything that happened at the end of this one.
⋆౨ৎ˚ other characters. the friendships and relationships in this book had me in tears. i was really hoping for chaol to appear too, and i’m still holding out hope we’ll see him reconnect with everyone in the next installment. fenrys is absolutely hilarious, and i definitely need more of him—his humor brings such a lightness to the story. gavriel has such a warm, fatherly vibe, and honestly, it’s so endearing. aedion, seriously, just give him a chance.
i completely forgot about ansel, so when she reappeared, it gave me goosebumps. and i have to say, seeing ilias again was a pleasant surprise. i’d been hoping he would show up, and he did. there are so many characters i’ve grown attached to, and every time one of them returns, it feels like a little reunion that makes the story even more meaningful. i can’t wait to see how all these connections play out in the next book.

i think this might be my favorite book in the series so far! it just kept surprising me. while i appreciated how much the third book improved, the fourth? it went beyond anything i could’ve expected. the plot, world-building, character growth, adventure, humor, and politics, every single element came together in queen of shadows and felt almost flawless.
the introduction of new characters was another highlight, and i found myself loving each one of them. one of the things i admire most about sarah’s writing is her ability to create strong, complex heroines who fight for their dreams with unwavering courage and hope. following their journeys is such a rewarding experience.
of course, queen of shadows isn’t without its emotional punches. there were moments that left me frustrated, drained, and reeling from the weight of it all. the first half builds steadily, laying the groundwork, while the second half? it was intense and felt more like the climax of a series than just another installment. honestly, it’s hard to imagine the next books surpassing this one because maas absolutely nailed it here.
in terms of plot, this book is packed. by the end, most of the loose threads are neatly tied up. if it weren’t for a few key villains still looming, it could have easily served as the series finale. the last quarter was filled with twists, surprises, and one of the best endings i’ve read in this series. i also really enjoyed the adventurous elements, which gave a refreshing change from the usual mix of politics, scheming, and romance.
⋆౨ৎ˚ aelin. i loved her. what i appreciate most is how her character keeps evolving, and as she grows, so do my feelings for her. i’m completely captivated by this new version of her. she’s not someone easily relate to, and yes, i don’t always agree with her. i’ve scolded her for her choices and winced at her harshness, but i also feel a deep sense of pride in everything she’s achieved and how far she’s come.
"and at long last, aelin ashryver galathynius was home."
“she was fire, and light, and ash, and embers. she was aelin fireheart, and she bowed for no one and nothing, save the crown that was hers by blood and survival and triumph.”
⋆౨ৎ˚ rowan. when rowan showed up, i was so happy. it was incredible to finally be inside his head. in heir of fire, he was such a stoic character, and i just knew there was so much more to him than what he let people see. he was the ultimate tea spiller in this book, catching every secret. “don’t—don’t touch me like that,” my heart sinking. i wanted to throw hands, but it led to the perfect confession, leaving me grinning.
"if death was separating us… i would find you. i don’t care how many rules it would break, i would find you. always."
⋆౨ৎ˚ chaol. what can i say about chaol? i loved him in the first two books, but now? i find him insufferable. he redeemed himself in the second half, but it was still disappointing. i never truly hated him, though, and i’m glad he survived. despite my frustrations, i still hope for his survival.
"we don't look back, chaol. it helps no one and nothing to look back. we can only go on.”
"aelin and dorian had gotten away, it was enough. when the pain came, he was not afraid."
⋆౨ৎ˚ dorian. the pain and torture he endured were unbearable. by the end, i almost lost hope he’d ever be free. but then, he broke his chains. even though he’s free, he’s still broken and lonely, and i worry about how he’ll cope. but the moment he unleashed his magic, destroyed the castle, and killed the king was epic. and when he saw aelin and learned about chaol’s fate, the bond between dorian and chaol stood out as my favorite part of the book.
”there were tears running down aelin’s face as dorian gripped the black stone encircling his throat. and bellowing his grief, his rage, his pain, he snapped the collar from his neck.”
"'i'm not leaving you. not again.' dorian’s mouth tightened. 'you never left me,chaol.' he shook his head once, sending tears slipping down his face. 'you never left me.'"
⋆౨ৎ˚ manon. i was honestly bored with her pov in the last book, it felt slow, and i struggled to stay interested. but this one? absolutely amazing. her arc completely turned around for me. at first, i hated her because she blindly followed her grandmother’s orders, never questioning. it was frustrating. but now, seeing her finally break free from that control and make her own choices was so satisfying. she’s no longer just a pawn, she’s becoming a leader in her own right.
”do you believe monsters are born, or made?”
⋆౨ৎ˚ aedion. his loyalty is truly admirable. no matter the situation, he always tries to see the good in everyone, even when others have given up. he stands his ground and stays true to his values, often putting others before himself, even if it costs him personally or brings him pain. that kind of unwavering dedication and selflessness is rare, and it’s one of the things that makes him such a compelling character.
"welcome home, aelin."
⋆౨ৎ˚ other characters. lysandra, i never thought i’d like her after the assassin’s blade, but she completely won me over in this book. her strength, resilience, and the depth of her character took me by surprise, and now she’s one of my favorites.elideandnesrynwere both powerful and courageous in their own ways, but i feel like we didn’t get enough time with them. they were so intriguing, and i kept wanting more scenes to fully explore their stories and personalities.kaltainabsolutely broke my heart—her pain and sacrifice were devastating. and asterin’sstory was just as heartbreaking, filled with loss and moments that left me emotional long after reading. andmort… i’m so sad aelin didn’t get to see him again. i was really hoping for their reunion. their banter was always so fun, and it feels like such a missed moment. i get why it didn’t happen, but still… i’ll always miss their dynamic.ressandbrullo… i’ll never stop loving how loyal they are. it’s heartbreaking knowing what happens, but they’ll always have a special place in the story for me. loyal until the very end.
”the soldiers in the sewer were screaming as she tore into them – a death for every day in hell, a death for the childhood taken from her and from evangeline. she was fury, she was wrath, she was vengeance.” - lysandra
”you told me dorian would fix the world, make it better. buf if he’s gone, if we made the mistake today in keeping him alive, then i will find another way to attain that future. and another one after that, if i have to. i will keep getting back up, no matter how many times those butchers shove me down.” - nesryn
creating a satisfying ending isn’t easy. if everything wraps up too perfectly, it can feel unrealistic. if it’s too tragic, readers leave disappointed. while the ending leans more toward the happy side, i appreciated how it turned out. sarah balances victory and defeat well, without major losses among the good guys. but i have a feeling this might be the only happy ending we’ll see for a while.

the start of the book felt a bit slow, but once again, sjm has left me feeling unwell by the ending. are we even surprised? while a lot of my questions were answered, just as many new ones popped up. and finally, we get to see celaena’s transformation from assassin to queen.
this book opens so many doors and expands the world in such a big way. with so many new characters, it does get tricky keeping track of who’s who and where they stand. there are so many threads to follow, but they all eventually weave together. that’s the beauty of this book. it was seriously captivating.
⋆౨ৎ˚ celaena / aelin. i really loved watching celaena’s inner journey throughout the story. her growth and transformation into her new identity were so well done. if you thought she’d already been through enough, this book takes it to a whole new level, showing even more pain and trauma. watching her face her past was genuinely heartbreaking. and of course, i adored her dynamic with rowan.
⋆౨ৎ˚ dorian. my heart absolutely aches for dorian. he deserves the world and so much more, but instead, he’s stuck with a horrible father and an unfair fate. what happened to him in this book, especially towards the end, was so undeserved. i was so happy when he finally found a small moment of joy, and i’m hoping the future books give him more of that. he’s been through so much. can we just let him have some peace already?
⋆౨ৎ˚ chaol. chaol… what a disappointment. i really liked him at first, but my feelings for him shifted in this book. it’s not that i hate him, but i don’t like him as much anymore. he’s clearly struggling with change, and while i get that it’s hard, his resistance is frustrating. he feels very human (maybe the only one left) but his loyalty being misplaced has shaken him, and it’s hard to watch him grapple with that. he makes excuses and even considers sacrificing himself for his beliefs, but that doesn’t make up for his flawed mindset. the only thing redeeming him right now is how deeply he loves his friend dorian.
⋆౨ৎ˚ rowan. at first, i couldn’t stand rowan. he was so cruel, and i felt rage every time he opened his mouth. i seriously wanted him gone. but then, slowly, he started showing a different side of himself. his backstory is heartbreaking, and as he opened up, i started softening toward him. he went from completely unlikable to tolerable. and then, eventually, i found myself liking him. now i’m genuinely curious to see how his relationship with aelin develops.
⋆౨ৎ˚ aedion. aedion is such an interesting character. by the end of the book, i wasn’t sure how i felt about him, but his love for his cousin and the sacrifices he’s made really stood out. his devotion to both his queen and his cousin is so touching and heartbreaking. i hope they reunite someday…
⋆ ౨ৎ˚ manon. manon, on the other hand, was kind of boring to me. i struggled with her chapters, even though it’s obvious she’ll play a big role in the series since she has her own povs. her story just didn’t grab me this time. i still want to know more about her, though, and i’m hoping her journey gets more interesting. manon and the thirteen have so much potential, and i really want to like them.

the holiday season is here, and i couldn’t have picked a better time to dive into this novella. this book was so quick, easy, and enjoyable, exactly what i needed after spending weeks immersed in the throne of glass series. i was craving something light, and this hit the spot perfectly.
even though it’s short, the characters were surprisingly well-developed, which isn’t always easy to pull off in a novella. one of my biggest pet peeves with shorter books is how the characters can sometimes feel underexplored, making it hard to truly connect with them. but lauren absolutely nailed it here. the characters felt layered, authentic, and so relatable, which made the story all the more satisfying.
⋆౨ৎ˚ catalina. catalina reminds me so much of myself. i’ve always been the quiet and shy type, and people sometimes mistake that for being rude or distant. but really, i’m just waiting for someone to take the first step and break the ice. i feel like catalina is the same way, misunderstood and hoping for someone to see past her walls. deep down, she just wants to be loved, but letting people in is something she finds so hard to do.
⋆౨ৎ˚ luke darling. luke is honestly the sweetest. he’s kind, understanding, and such a gentleman. it’s impossible not to adore him. i loved how he always went out of his way for catalina, whether it was to make her laugh, help her feel safe, or comfort her during the toughest moments. his thoughtfulness and care made their connection feel so real and heartfelt.
⋆౨ৎ˚ luke and catalina. i love both of them so much, and while i know the book was fast-paced because it had to be, i couldn’t help but wish for a longer epilogue or more moments between them. they were so cute together, and i could easily see their romance being a longer story. they matched each other’s energy perfectly, and their chemistry was off the charts. their relationship was so comforting to read, even if some might call it insta-love because of how quickly they fell for each other. for me, it was sweet and endearing, and i loved every second of it. the little gestures between them made my heart melt, and their banter was just adorable and so funny—it was everything i wanted.

i really enjoyed this book! crown of midnight is an amazing sequel that really surprised me. i usually brace myself for disappointment, but this one completely blew my expectations. in my opinion, it’s even better than the first book. compared to the first one, this one’s packed with action and suspense, making it so thrilling. even though i had a feeling about how it would end, the journey was still so engaging and emotionally intense. the only reason i didn’t rate it higher is because the first half moved a bit slowly, and i had a hard time getting invested. but the second half definitely made up for it!
the plot is fast-paced and totally immersive. the twists are interesting but believable, and they kept me hooked. and i genuinely loved it. the characters’ arcs, especially chaol’s, are really introspective, but they never bored me and were short enough to keep the pace going. the writing is excellent; the action scenes are great, the dialogue feels real, and the descriptions flow easily without getting too wordy.
⋆౨ৎ˚ celaena. we finally get to see her ruthless killer side. beyond all the action, celaena’s character development is what i loved most. she’s no longer afraid to embrace who she truly is, and she opens up not just to chaol, but also to dorian. i was really surprised by how much we learn about her, especially finding out she’s fae—didn’t see that coming!
⋆౨ৎ˚ chaol. i don’t dislike him, in fact, i like him, but he really messed up in this book. i mean, come on, you’re the captain of the king’s guard—be smarter than that! his blind loyalty to the king frustrated me, and i couldn’t understand why he never questioned the king’s orders. chaol’s the type of guy who’s devoted to the point of being oblivious. by the end, i felt a bit sorry for him. he finally saw the truth, but by then it was too late to fix things, and he paid the price.
⋆౨ৎ˚ dorian. i love that he has raw magic inside him, and i can see so much potential for him in the next books. still, his loneliness really gets to me, and i can’t help but feel for him. he’s so isolated, with no one to turn to, but when he discovers his magic, his first instinct is to see if his brother has it too. wanting to protect hollin is so sweet! i just wanted to hug him when he was hiding his research in the library or anxiously waiting outside celaena’s door. all his anger and pain. he doesn’t deserve that.

'throne of glass' had been sitting on my tbr for ages, but the mixed reviews kept pushing it down my list. i finally decided to dive into the series, knowing almost nothing about it, and from the very first page, i was completely hooked. while i loved all five novellas in the assassin’s blade, the last one hit me the hardest, it actually brought me to tears.
i’m completely captivated by the vivid, intricate, and mysterious world maas is building. the way these stories are crafted and interconnected almost makes them feel like a standalone book, which i really appreciated. even though these novellas only explore a handful of locations, they left me excited to dive deeper into the different settings as the series unfolds. the overarching plot woven through the five stories is intriguing and keeps you on edge, wondering what’s coming next. it’s a bit daunting to imagine how everything will play out, but i’m hopeful the journey will be as exhilarating as this start.
⋆౨ৎ˚ celaena sardothien. i’ve seen a lot of people mention how hard it was to connect with celaena, and honestly, it made me hesitant to start the series. but to my surprise, i really ended up liking her. i get why people call her stubborn, reckless, and arrogant, but i found her incredibly compelling despite those flaws. her confidence and determination to fight for what she believes in make her such an intriguing character. beneath all her bravado, there’s a depth to her that i can’t wait to uncover as the series progresses.
⋆౨ৎ˚ sam cortland. i knew going in that sam was going to die—thank you, tiktok and goodreads—but that didn’t make it hurt any less. i adored sam. his kindness, loyalty, and the way he loved celaena. he was one of the few people who truly saw her for who she was, and his unwavering support for her left a lasting impression on me. his death felt so unfair, and honestly, i’m still not over it. their love story had so much potential, and i kept wishing things would somehow turn out differently, even though i already knew how it would end. the way he cared for celaena, even when she pushed him away, made his fate feel even more heartbreaking. i can't help but wonder what his future could have been like if he’d lived. sam deserved so much more than the fate he got, and it’s going to take a while for me to fully move on from him. his story is tragic, but it’s also unforgettable, and i know he’ll stay with me as i continue the series.

i truly adored this book. i loved the subtle nods to the original little mermaid folktale, just enough to add depth without being overwhelming. this book was packed with twists and turns that kept me on my toes, almost like one plot twist after another, which made the whole story feel dynamic and exciting.
the forbidden romance element was also captivating; the author has a real gift for weaving fractured fairytales with dark romance, giving this story everything it needed. it’s bittersweet to know this series has come to an end, but i truly adored the couple, and i couldn’t have asked for a more satisfying conclusion.
while the pacing was mostly strong, i think the book could have been about 25% shorter. i found the flirty, tension-filled moments where the characters were drawn to each other but held back were more engaging than the actual spicy scenes. despite that, i still really enjoyed this one!
⋆౨ৎ˚ venesa. a strong female lead with a villainous side always draws me in, and venesa truly stole the show. as the counterpart to ursula, her potions and poisons were iconic. venesa is sassy, snarky, intelligent, confident, and fiercely independent. even when she’s faced with unfair treatment and underestimated by those around her, she never lets it break her spirit. instead, she channels all of that into her strength, staying resilient and refusing to let others define her. she has this tough, unapologetic exterior but also carries a lot of depth and complexity that makes her a fascinating character to follow. her fierce determination to carve out her own path, despite the obstacles, makes her a true force to be reckoned with.
⋆౨ৎ˚ enzo. enzo might be on the path to becoming a mafia don, but he’s an undeniable green flag in so many ways. he has that dangerous edge, being sharp and cunning, yet he also brings this incredible charm and warmth that feels refreshing. despite his tough exterior, he’s incredibly thoughtful and genuinely kind, especially when it comes to venesa. i loved how he constantly went out of his way to make her feel seen, understood, and valued in ways she’d never experienced before. enzo has this unique mix of intensity and tenderness that makes his relationship with venesa feel truly special. his consistent, quiet gestures and the way he pays attention to her needs show just how deeply he cares, making him an unforgettable character and partner.
⋆౨ৎ˚ enzo and venesa. from the very first encounter, it was obvious that venesa and enzo were the power couple of the book. their chemistry was electric, sparking not only an undeniable physical attraction but also creating some of the best banter between them. there was an ease to their connection that went beyond attraction, drawing them together on a deeper level that made every interaction between them feel charged and meaningful. enzo saw venesa for who she truly was, appreciating her strength and complexity without reducing her to a mere tool or obstacle, which was both refreshing and heartwarming. his protectiveness over her only added to his appeal, showing that his loyalty ran deep. enzo’s fierce care and genuine admiration for venesa made their love story feel layered and unforgettable, and it was a joy to watch their relationship grow.

this has to be my favorite in the series so far! the slow burn in this book was amazing. it dives into a forbidden romance between two people who never planned to fall in love. the pacing and development were so well-done that they had me hooked, waiting to see what would happen next. i got totally pulled into the world, the plot, the politics, and the romance.
the characters are so well developed, and i loved those moments when their guards came down, letting their real selves show. i honestly loved everything about this book. the writing was easy to get into, and even though this story feels different from her other book, hooked, it’s just as captivating. i especially enjoyed exploring this new world with all its scheming and deception.
besides the romance, i liked the layers of betrayal and plotting in the background. learning more about certain past deaths added a deeper mystery to everything. i do wish the drama had been a little more complex, though some of it, especially the villain reveals, felt a bit predictable.
the epilogue was amazing, especially those last few sentences. i did find myself wishing for a bigger battle scene and a few more moments with tristan and sara after everything wrapped up. i’m really curious about where they stand as a couple and their position in the kingdom. the ending felt a bit rushed, and i’d love more details.
⋆౨ৎ˚ sara. i really liked sara. she’s one of those characters who seem easy to overlook at first because of her innocent look and the way others tend to underestimate her, especially since she’s a woman in a world that might not fully appreciate her strength. but she’s sharp, clever, and has this quiet resilience that makes her so intriguing. no matter what obstacles are thrown her way, she always finds a way to stay one step ahead. i loved watching her prove people wrong, showing everyone around her that she’s not to be underestimated. her strength and determination really made her stand out for me.
⋆౨ৎ˚ tristan. tristan was such a layered character. on the surface, he’s possessive, jealous, and almost ruthlessly ambitious, ready to eliminate anyone who stands in his way without a second thought. but there’s more to him than that tough, intimidating exterior. under all that coldness, he has a softer, more vulnerable side that he only reveals to a few, and it makes him so much more than just the typical “bad boy” figure. his loyalty runs deep for those he cares about, and i loved seeing glimpses of that gentler side. the balance between his ruthless ambition and hidden vulnerability made him feel real and complex, and that’s what made me so drawn to his character. and i loved the relationship he had with simon.
⋆౨ৎ˚ tristan and sara. i loved the dynamic between tristan and sara. their chemistry was intense, and the banter between them kept me hooked. each scene they shared felt like it was crackling with tension, making every interaction a page-turner. both of them have this darkness, this hunger for revenge that brings them together, and it makes them the perfect match in the most unexpected way. they understand each other on a level no one else can, and that shared ambition and drive create such a unique connection. their relationship is full of complications and isn’t easy, but that’s what makes it feel so real and captivating.

at first, i had mixed feelings about this book because the characters and the situation felt a bit shallow to me. but by the end, i was completely hooked! i ended up enjoying it way more than i expected. the layout of the story, the pacing of their journey, and the development of their romantic connection really stood out. i loved watching their friendship blossom into something deeper. elizabeth o'roark has a real talent for creating characters who, despite their flaws or tough situations, feel so engaging and relatable.
that said, i have to admit i was a bit let down by the ending. after they resolved their conflict, we jumped straight to an epilogue that gave some closure but felt like it was missing something. i wish we could’ve seen them navigating life as an openly out couple. still, aside from that, i genuinely enjoyed this book.
⋆౨ৎ˚ drew. drew's life was a lot more complicated and burdensome than i expected. honestly, there were about five different people i wanted her to slap throughout the book. but even with all that, she was a character i connected with on so many levels. i loved how her tough exterior hid this soft, vulnerable side. as the story went on, i felt every bit of her pain, from the weight of her secrets to the small and big ways she’d been hurt. there were moments i just wanted to shake her for some of her choices. i was frustrated by how she handled her career and how she struggled to stand up for herself, even though it made sense for her character and past. but when she finally found her voice, i couldn’t help but cheer her on.
⋆౨ৎ˚ josh. i really liked josh. his protective, caring nature totally won me over, and i loved how he was always looking out for drew. even though he made some mistakes along the way, he didn’t try to hide them or make excuses, which made him feel so genuine. honestly, a little more groveling wouldn’t have hurt, but i still appreciated that he stepped up when it mattered. he’s the definition of someone who falls hard and fast; from the very first moment, he was completely smitten and wasn’t shy about showing it. his openness and loyalty made him so easy to root for.
⋆౨ৎ˚ josh and drew. josh and drew totally sucked me in, and i was hooked on every heartfelt moment they shared. every time they’d say, “tell me something real,” it felt like my heart was breaking right there with them. their connection was so raw and honest, it just made me love them even more. the banter between them was easily my favorite part of the book; these two were never boring for a second, and their back-and-forth kept me turning the pages. josh couldn’t stand seeing drew treated badly, and i loved how fiercely protective he was, always stepping up when she needed him. the tension between them got pretty intense, and while i totally got where josh’s fears were coming from, it still hurt seeing how it impacted drew. i was just rooting for them the whole time, hoping they’d push through everything and really open up to each other.

this completely exceeded my expectations in the best way. i love a good slow-burn romances, especially ones with that perfect balance of witty banter and chemistry, and this story really nailed it. every scene felt so well-paced, keeping me hooked from one moment to the next without ever dragging. the writing was just right, smooth and engaging, bringing out the characters’ personalities beautifully. with a grumpy yet totally lovable hero and a strong-willed heroine you can’t help but root for, their dynamic made every interaction fun to read. add in those sweet, romantic moments, and it all just came together perfectly.
⋆౨ৎ˚ tali. i absolutely loved tali’s humor and the way she took care of hayes, it added so much warmth to her character. she’s got this quiet competence that i find really refreshing and underrated in a heroine. she’s always putting her family first, almost to a fault, and it just shows how deeply she cares. but beyond that, she’s such a well-rounded character with her own dreams, past hurts, and this genuinely good-hearted personality that makes her easy to root for. she’s strong and grounded, yet real and relatable, and her journey felt so genuine.
⋆౨ৎ˚ hayes. hayes felt a bit less fleshed out to me, and i think that might be because we only get tali’s point of view. most of what we see of him is filtered through her perspective, and while that worked sometimes, there were moments when i really wanted to dive into his own thoughts and emotions. it felt like we were only scratching the surface, especially since a lot of chapters ended with these hints about hayes’s growth or struggles. even so, i found him so endearing! he had this adorable mix of grumpiness and humor that made him memorable, and the way he’d go out of his way to do thoughtful things for tali was just so sweet. his love language is absolutely gift-giving, and it was really charming to see him show he cares in those little ways.
⋆౨ৎ˚ hayes and tali. i absolutely love the dynamic between hayes and tali. they balance each other out so perfectly. their constant back-and-forth banter keeps things fun and lively, making sure there’s never a dull moment between them. they each bring out different sides of each other, and it’s clear they’re good together in ways that go beyond just romance. both of them have been hurt before, so there’s this layer of caution when it comes to opening up and letting their guard down. they’re careful about starting over, but that hesitation makes every step forward feel even more meaningful. watching them slowly let their walls down and build trust adds so much depth to their relationship, and it’s really heartwarming to see.
i was fully expecting to dislike this book because of my experience with the first one, but i’m ₊‧.°.⋆ 4 stars ⋆.°.‧₊ ➴ possible spoilers ahead!
i was fully expecting to dislike this book because of my experience with the first one, but i’m really glad i ended up enjoying it. this one is definitely an improvement. it was super lighthearted yet still so charming. i had a great time, and honestly, that’s all i really look for in a book.
i really appreciated that it didn’t follow the typical third-act breakup formula. instead, it had a lot of ups and downs throughout, which kept me entertained the whole time.
that being said, i did feel like the story lacked conflict, especially between the main characters. there were some tensions with secondary characters, like wren’s dad, the teacher, and some friends, but i was hoping for more complexity in the relationship between the two leads. i think their differences could’ve been explored more to add depth to the plot. a bit more emotional intensity would have made it even better, as some parts felt too straightforward and predictable.
⋆౨ৎ˚ wren beaumont. wren was cute. i’ll admit, i wasn’t a huge fan of her at first, but her character development really impressed me. she became a lot less judgmental and finally started to come into her own. i loved seeing her confidence grow, though she did seem a bit naive at times. i liked how art became part of who she was without it completely defining her. the focus on her virginity and the experience tied to it was central to the book, but honestly, it didn’t bother me as much as i thought it would.
⋆౨ৎ˚ crew lancaster. i didn’t expect him to be so likeable. i don’t even know how to put it into words. the way he was always so respectful towards her, his patience—everything! i really didn’t think he’d turn out that way, but it was such a nice surprise!
⋆౨ৎ˚ crew and wren. these two are adorable. i really enjoyed their playful banter. i love how crew is open and direct with her. their dynamic is great! they both become more vulnerable as they get to know each other better, which was heartwarming. i really appreciated how crew never pressured her and gave her space to figure things out for herself. it was also refreshing to see him fall for her first and be unafraid to show it. one of my favorite parts was how he prioritized her and got her that birthday gift she had wanted for so long—so sweet!

i was really excited to start this, especially after hearing so much about it, particularly the major plot twist at the end. even though my expectations weren’t super high, it turned out to be an incredible and heartbreaking read, total rollercoaster of emotions and surprises. i couldn’t put it down, and it left me feeling completely wrecked. while i loved the book, i don’t think it ended the way it should have. the ending was good but felt unfinished. still, it’s the kind of ending that will haunt me for the rest of my life. overall, i loved it. this book made me cry for the liars who lost their lives trying to make a change, and laugh at the rare moments and memories the four of them shared.

i have to say, i really enjoyed reading this. it was super entertaining and held my attention the whole time. fast-paced and an easy read, this book was much more plot-driven than the last one, and the main characters actually had some development this time around. the world-building still wasn’t amazing, but at least it was there. unlike the previous book where nothing was explained, so i guess that’s progress. i also liked how we got to see a bit more of verena’s personality in this one. overall, i enjoyed the book, but it felt like it was missing some plot depth and definitely needed more world-building. i’m really hoping book three steps it up and delivers more!

the story was a real emotional roller coaster, with moments of tragedy, desperation, hope, and even some optimism as love started to grow. i was totally hooked on silas and alanna’s journey. silas was tough and strong, but deep down he had this gentle, vulnerable side. alanna was stubborn and strong, handling everything with grace. their story was intense and full of mystery, really showing how love can conquer anything. it was such a great read!

it was good, not amazing but not terrible either. but i still had a good time with it, even if some parts were predictable. i kept turning the pages to see what would happen next. one thing i really liked about this book is that it’s an own voices story that explores different cultures, which made it so much more interesting. the characters were awesome, and i especially liked the heroine. leia has so many layers, and getting to know her was really fun. her moments with the kids were super heartwarming, especially with everything she was going through.

i never know what to expect when i dive into a catharina maura’s book, but it's always a great experience. this book was perfect. i found myself rooting for amara and noah right from the start. their connection was lovely, and they made such a sweet, adorable, and passionate couple. the story balanced sweetness, passion, and drama really well. the pacing was on point, and i also loved seeing grayson and aria make an appearance from the previous book. all in all, i absolutely loved this book. it had its intense moments, and the breakup in the third act definitely hit me hard, but the ending made it all worth it.
