Apparently there are going to be three books that have untold stories about the Mikaelsons in them.
The Rise picks up nine years after Elijah, Klaus and Rebekah move to New Orleans. Each sibling has their own untold story in this book. By untold I think they mean untold in the show because even though I know some of their stories, the ones in this book haven't made it into the show.
Elijah is trying to secure his families place in the city among the witches and werewolves. Klaus is chasing after a girl who's engaged to one of the leading families of the wolves. And then there's Rebekah who has set out on a mission to secure an army but finds more than she expected.
I have no idea if these books are going to fit into the show. I haven't really looked into the them at all.
I really doubted Klaus's sincerity with Vivienne. I think it's from watching him in The Vampire Diaries and The Originals. I just never saw him as someone like that. Like he is in this book. He just seemed so fake.
Elijah seemed the same. Always loyal, always looking at the bigger picture. I've loved Elijah since The Vampire Diaries and he seemed the same as he always is.
Rebekah is Rebekah. She seemed less flighty and more interested in settling down and being happy. I know she's always wanted a family of her own with a normal human life. But seeing her almost get that in The Rise and knowing at the same time that she couldn't have gotten it because she's always said so in the show was really sad. Obviously the human part wasn't an option. Rebekah is also one of my favourite Originals.
There was one thing that bugged me in this book. Rebekah kept mentioning her need of a daylight ring. I've never seen any of the Originals wearing or even needing them. I don't understand the use of them in the book. I think it's the only thing, aside from Klaus's questionable feelings, that didn't match the show. And I expected them to be the same, especially because they both come from Julie Plec.
I liked it but it wasn't good. I think I liked it because I love the show and Elijah and Rebekah. I have the next book, The Loss, on my tablet so I'll review that when I get around to reading it. ...more
I'd only seen one episode of the show before reading the book so wasn't biased by it.
I'm actually glad I read the book before watching any more. I've I'd only seen one episode of the show before reading the book so wasn't biased by it.
I'm actually glad I read the book before watching any more. I've seen reviews that are disappointed with the book because it's not like the show. I liked the book. I was surprised at the women in the prison because I'd heard what goes on in men's prisons. I guess I was expecting the same, which seems like the TV show is like, but I was surprised.
Piper met some interesting women in there, some that made me laugh. But what I liked best was Piper seeing the impact drugs has on families, not just the individual. A lot of people don't get that drugs ruins families. Even though she didn't deal drugs she did live off the money made from it and did smuggle money.
This book opened my eyes about how prisoners are treated. I've never really had to think about it as I've never known anyone that's gone to prison.
Great book, now I'll have to watch the show....more

I love Bellarke (Clarke and Bellamy) in the books but I'm not too sure about them on the show. I love Clarke in both though.
I have The Homecoming but am putting off reading that for now so the series lasts longer.
I'm still not too sure about Wells. I think I said in my review for The 100 that I didn't like him but that was because of the way he treated Clarke and the lives he'd ruined to send her to Earth.
I still really like these books but I now think of them as different to the show. I don't compare them while I read the books....more

This is an illustrated edition of the original story.
This is the third time I’ve read A Game of Thrones and I still love it just as much as the first time I read it four years ago. I was kind of late to the party but better late than never I guess. So, because of how many times I’ve read this I don’t think I can review thee story anymore. But every time I’ve read it I have given this five stars so I think that give you an idea of how much I love this book. I don’t give many books five-star ratings.
I loved the illustrations in this edition. Some of them, the building and castles, took me a while to figure out when I first flipped through the book but they are pretty much easy t figure out even if you’re just flipping through. I pretty much spoiled of them before I started re-reading it but I just couldn’t wait to see them.
Most of the illustrations are in black and white but there are a few beautiful coloured illustrations. I mean, they’re all beautiful in their own way but the coloured ones just have a little bit more. I guess because they’re in colour.. I don’t know.
I really enjoyed reading this edition of A Game of Thrones. It was a new way to experience the story I’ve read twice and seen on TV a few times. Even though I knew what was going to happen in the story I loved seeing all the illustrations as I read it again. But it does get kind of heavy after a while… It’s over 800 pages.
I’d definitely recommend this to any fan of the Song of Ice and Fire series. And even if you’ve only watched the TV show it’s addition for any fan. Plus, there’s still time to make hints for Christmas....more
Previous reads - Simon still angers me so much. How he's like "good, someone will be looking after my girlfriend" ... 1. Since when was Clary your girlfriend? One kiss does not equal a relationship Mr Presumptuous. 2. Clary can speak for herself. And 3. Since when does Clary need taking care of? I think people underestimate her.
I've read these books before so I know what happens between Simon, Clary and Jace.
I'm having to reread the first five books before I can finally, after a year of having the book, getting to read City of Heavenly Fire. The last time I read the books was in 2013 and I can't remember much of what happened so I decided to start them again.
I don't know if I should read City of Glass this month or keep it to one book a month. That might start to drive me nuts waiting but they'd last longer....more

Its been years since I read this series so I needed a refresher before I finally picked up TDA.

The Lying Game series isn't as long as the Pretty Little Liars one but at least I've finished one of them. It could've ended two or three books ago if Emma's suspect list wasn't so damn long.
I started this series because I loved the TV show TLG but it was so different. Sutton was alive. Ethan was my favorite and Thayer was a douche. So going into the books already having a love/hate relationship with the characters blinded me to the book versions. I kept thinking of the Ethan from the show for three books and then realised that I can't do that. They're different.
So Ethan Landry. What a crazy one. Saw it coming eventually but still.
I'm glad it's one Sara Shepherd series wrapped up. Now for PLL to end before I'm 80....more
