I don’t normally like mafia stories but an enjoyable read from this author previously drew me in. However, it was flawed in experience for me because of the two MCs. A weak and sometimes annoyingly sappish heroine and more than anything, the jerk of jerks of a hero. What a tool.
BUT I found myself drawn in, often. It had real highs but also some lows from a storyline perspective. I’m glad I read it, but the characters didn’t improve on further inspection.
The narrator had a slightly annoying voice, however she did great with the Russian accents from a non-Russian perspective....more

Narration 5 stars, both narrators nailed the characters and their voices were a delight to listen to.
This was just a random pick from the audible romance package and it blew my expectations. It was a fast-paced, adrenaline-packed story from start to finish with a suspense storyline.
Boone is literally a wild man who has been living alone in wild Alaska, finally arrested for a military offense. Kate is a FBI agent trailing her own case but finds herself caught up in a complex and dangerous situation. This story is multi-layered, well thought out and compelling.
Mason Boone was swoon central without trying; strong, silent and powerful. Kate made up for her small stature with determination and front.
I highly recommend this to all my friends, especially on audio. ...more

I’m rating because I got so far in that I feel I can fairly make the judgement. This audio started off so well and it was the premise of the story in the synopsis that really drew me in. Rory goes to a Comic-Con to meet the manga author/illustrator he has admired for years, he’s half in love with her. Said author has had this situation before where he’s mistaken for a women. Their meeting was fabulous but sadly everything went downhill by 20%. There was unlimited drama that took the plot in bizarre directions. I just couldn’t continue any longer.
I pretty much loved the narrator, his accents and style....more

How2 stars for the lack of research regarding some of the impossible medical happenings, truly you don’t need a health background to see the stretch. However I’m going with 3 stars overall as this was a gripping read, clever in its conception and a definite departure from Hoover’s normal writing. Unusually, the medical impossibilities didn’t spoil things for me.
I found the characters, particularly Verity, sufficiently creepy that I didn’t continue to read in the dark one night (I am the original scaredy-cat). As with most reviews I’ve seen for this book, I’m left with a what the......more

The story revolves around a dystopian future where most of the men have died out but some remain as sex slaves (or are they...as the storylines constantly evolves around...yes they are). One of the End Men, Folsom has a paid inpregnation attempt with Gwen and its all hearts and roses from here to there. It was initially entertaining but then it tried to be all feminist in an equality sense and it was a wompy failure. I didn't believe the weak characters, the weak world building or the weak storyline. Sorry but this wasn't a case of not for me, it was a case of I advise you not to pick up the book. I can't bear to post this review to the blog and give it wordspace.

A generally enjoyable listen. I really enjoyed the Hawaiian context. It was a strange story in some ways, an odd coupling that made up part of the plot. Later on as things got to the getting together stage, I found it a bit ‘smushy’, a bit too much. The heat was solidly written, Halle does this well. The plot took a turn at about 80% and I thought I was going to hate it, but that aspect was reasonably short lived.
The narration was single POV, single narrator. I liked the narrator for the heroine but when she did the hero’s Australian dialogue (which was often), it jarred every time....more

Alex is the most curious hero, a waiter who is clearly something more but that's the big mystery. What or who is Alex? I've liked Sandra from the knitting crew but not really had the measure of her character properly until now. Sandra was a smart, witty lady, often found being sarcastic or self deprecating. I really liked her. Her lack of love life was hilarious and she was the woman who made men weep then get therapy.
The direction of this storyline was unexpected, unusual and had me reaching for the Internet to do some research. That's not to say that background isn't explained adequately, I just found myself curious as to the reality of the story context and it's grounded in fact. Penny Reid bring her signature wit and intelligence to this series but I found this book a little hotter than previous books in the series. this was a slow burn connection with all the heat boiling to a frenzy; such a delight to listen to.
I drank in the connection between Alex and Sandra. I swallowed my frustration with Alex at times. I revelled in what could be. Most of all, I sat back and enjoyed almost every minute of this book.
This was a re-read by audio and second time round, it was a dream. The audio was a single pov, single narration audio and Devra Woodward did a fantastic job in general but also with male dialogue. She captured the snark and humour so well and brought these characters alive.
