It starts off with a drowning on dry land, and alternates between the detective trying to solve that case and a very interesting foreign woman who seems to know something about this case. How they intersect and interact is surprising and exciting. A really good read. ...more

The killer and how they’re found it is a little silly, but I loved Mavis and her internal monologue SO much that I didn’t care. Just delightful, and I’m planning to get caught up in the series ASAP!...more
Dark and sad, with a slow and somber pace - and I mean that in the best way possible. This isn’t a snappy thriller full of twists and turns, and it’s not a book with a feel-good story, but it was powerful and made me really feel for the MC and her sister and the way their lives had turned out. They both had issues that were very real and human, and were also very easy to tie to the trauma that happened when their mother disappeared. The story was built so carefully that I would have been happy no matter how it ended, though I did like that there was at least some resolution (hopefully that’s not a spoiler). ...more

I loved the houseboat/lake setting, and the cast of characters who hated our victim (who was a real jerk) made it fun to guess who really had committed the crime. I didn’t always care about the details of the renovation, and there were some red herrings that felt a little silly, but all in all this was a fun, quick read....more

I enjoyed the story, the flashes between past and present, and the uncovering of the lies that brought Abby to the island to try to understand her fiancé, but I really wish the truth didn’t make what came before feel so over the top and insane - I wanted an equally insane conclusion. Despite that, tight writing, lots of mystery, and great characters, so definitely worth a read. ...more

A great mystery with all the classic elements. There’s lots of money at stake when a tech founder is murdered, especially when he’s changed his will to hold all his money in limbo until his killer is brought to justice. There are secrets, lots of arrogant rich people, some crazy Burning Man scenes, and lots of tech startup cliches (that are on so realistic!) Super fun and fast paced. ...more

This was just a great, classic mystery with interesting characters (also kudos to Richter for not adding any cliched gay actor best friends!!), plenty of action, and a solid wrap up. I loved to hate Yolanda and seeing her history unfold was fun. Also, I got a possible series feeling and I’m really hoping to read more Kit stories in the future. ...more
