I was pleasantly surprised that it did.
Veronica Roth built another world, but didn't just leave us hanging with a big "what if" at the end of it all. The characters still fight, grow, and take action. While she could have ended the book at the same length of the others, she didn't and thank goodness for that.
Tris and Tobias are, again, enthralling and interesting characters. Their relationship is complex and difficult to navigate in the world they're thrown into. Tobias has every other chapter as his point of view, which is really different and changes how you see him. It's easier to see Tobias as a person, fully fleshed out, kind, caring, and conflicted. The new characters are developed and used significantly, too, as always.
While I cried at the end of the series, it ended beautifully and I feel like the series is resolved and complete. I cannot recommend this series enough....more

Tris is put in heartbreaking situations and messes up like anyone would. Her actions are not entirely explainable and that only serves to make her more human and understandable. Not only did her life get flipped upside down by changing factions, but now the ensuing war between factions takes multiple twists and turns, each threatening to rip her and everyone around her apart. This book feels more urgent and desperate and lost than Divergent, but that only mirrors Tris's mindset as she keeps falling in a world she doesn't understand without many supports by her side. Now it's not just a test of what Tris is made of--it's her side's decisions and how she reacts to them that matter. ...more

Not as exciting or heart pounding as the first two, but it wraps up the series well. I enjoyed the book a lot more than the movies because despite having two movies to cover one book, a lot of nuance was left out. If you had any questions in the movies, they will undoubtedly be answered in the books.
While a few things happen in the end that I'm not happy with, they more than go with the universe and overall themes of the books. ...more
