Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales. Quick & Dirty: Beautiful heartfelt book full of relatable characters, sexy romance, and real life issues. It’s a Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales. Quick & Dirty: Beautiful heartfelt book full of relatable characters, sexy romance, and real life issues. It’s a fast read with lots of layers that made it unique and interesting. Opening Sentence: I’m proud to say that after five years of virtual slavery, I am now allowed to make the soup on Wednesday nights for étoile, my father’s restaurant. The Review: Cami is 17 years old and getting ready to start her last year of high school. Life couldn’t be better. She is very passionate about cooking and she gets to work part-time in her father’s French restaurant this year alongside her boyfriend, Luke. Then there is a tragic accident and her stepmother’s nephew has to move in with them. Suddenly Cami’s carefully planned future is about to get very confusing. While stationed in Afghanistan there was an explosion that left Julian seriously injured and all the rest of his unit dead. Not only does he take up room in her home, he also makes his way into her heart. While she watches him struggle, she can’t help but respect and admire him. He wakes up emotions and feelings that Cami has never felt before. Julian is frustrating, angry, and broken, but underneath all that Cami finds a kindred spirit that might feel just as lost as she is. Cami is an amazing character. She has an extreme love for cooking, which I really enjoyed and found relatable since I also enjoy cooking. She is an amazing and sweet girl, but she also has a feisty side to her. She’s not at all afraid to speak her mind, which was refreshing. The love and affection she shows others is very endearing and made her a very likable character. But not everything in Cami’s life is perfect at times, she feels completely lost. High school ends in just a year and she has no idea what she wants to do with her future. She has a few options but none of them feel right. You get to watch her struggle to make some hard life decisions that all teenagers have to go through. She is a great heroine and I loved being inside her head. Julian is a hot and grumpy ex-marine. When you meet him he has just lost his leg and the other leg is left in tatters. He is so broken and ridden with guilt, he honestly doesn’t know what to do with himself. Once he meets Cami you start to see glimpses of the old Julian. She doesn’t treat him like he is any different, and she doesn’t put up with any of his crap. As he slowly put his life back together you get to see how love and forgiveness can really heal so many wounds. The thing I loved most about Julian was that he could be a real person. His experience has happened to many men and women from our military. It reminds me how much I should appreciate them and what they sacrifice for our country. The loss and guilt he felt is all too real in many lives today. He is a wonderful, very believable character that I truly loved reading about. This was a very quick read that was immensely enjoyable. I was pleasantly surprised by the depth the story has. Yes, it is total chick lit, but on top of the romance there are real issues presented that made the story so much more believable and heartfelt. It wasn’t all fluff and drama, which was a nice change for a contemporary read. The characters were so unique and developed, and really well thought out. Elkins took time to develop everything slowly, which made it all feel so much more real. The romance was beautifully done with just the right mix of drama and heat. There was a moment in the book where I did start to lose a tad bit of interest, but it didn’t take too long for me to get swept back up in the story. Overall, this was a very good read and I would highly recommend it to anyone that is looking to progress into New Adult books. This fills the gap between YA and NA perfectly, which makes it a really good start for the New Adult genre. Notable Scene: I can’t hear his response. She leans over his face, probably to kiss him. Then she turns away from him, obviously hiding the fact that she’s crying. I feel so bad for her, I go in and hand her the crumpled tissue in my pocket. She takes it and holds my arm. She holds it like she needs it to stay upright. I don’t even notice the patient in the bed, I’m so focused on Estella, and she’s blocking my view anyway. “I’ll get you a chair,” I say. She’s nodding. Trying to keep it together. “No, don’t sit down,” a garbled voice from behind her says. “Just leave.” “But Julian,” Estella begins, turning to face him. “LEAVE!” he cries. Some nerve. “You know, Estella has been worried half out of her mind,” I say. “She flew down here with her heart in her…” Holy Mother of God. Estella moves away and I’m looking at her nephew. And I’m praying. Holy Mother of God, I pray. Well, a sort-of prayer. His eyes are so blackened and swollen he must hardly be able to see. His nose is broken and bandaged. His bottom lip is a busted mess. He’s wearing a neck brace. His right leg, covered by a hand-knitted quilt, is cut off just below the knee. His left leg is bare and outfitted with an extremely scary-looking apparatus made of metal rods and pins. The pins have been surgically inserted into his skin, presumably to hold the bones in place. I close my eyes. Holy Mother, ease his pain, I think to myself. Heal him. “Julian, this is your new step-cousin, Camille,” Estella says. “GET OUT!” Something is knocked across the room—a book I think. Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales Quick & Dirty: An entertaining romance with fun characters and lots of great sexy times. Opening Sentence: Rounding Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales Quick & Dirty: An entertaining romance with fun characters and lots of great sexy times. Opening Sentence: Rounding the corner into the hospital room, I see Rylie lying in bed and immediately rush to her side. The Review: River Lancaster just found out that her boyfriend she had shared a bed with for the last six months was married! Her best friend convinced her that she needs a break, so they take a 2 week vacation and fly to the Florida Keys! She’s done with guys, well that is until she runs into a sexy cowboy who totally sweeps her off her feet! Alex Bishop has lived his whole life on a ranch in Texas. It’s his life and he loves it! He has always had a wild side and relationships have never been his thing! But his mama taught him some manners so he’s always the perfect gentleman with the ladies! Settling down was never really in the cards until he met an unforgettable girl that saves his best friends life! River is a fun, feisty heroine who doesn’t have a problem speaking her mind and being herself! She’s had some tough blows in the romance department but she doesn’t let that break her spirit. I love how she’s sweet and loving but at the same time she is smart and strong! I thought she was a very well crafted character and I adored her! Alex is a sexy cowboy that can easily charm any women! He knows he’s hot but he’s also a gentleman. It was refreshing to meet a player that actually shows respect to a girl! There were a few times where I got a little irritated with him, but overall I adored him. His relationship with River is very sexy, sweet, and fun. Overall, I thought he was a great boyfriend. Taming Him is a fun, steamy adult romance that is perfect for someone who wants an easy story with a happy ending! It’s not the most amazing romance I have ever read but it was definitely entertaining! It was pretty predictable and a little over dramatic at times, but honestly, I kind of like that with romance books! I’m really looking forward to continuing the series because I loved the other brothers and I can’t wait to see how their stories turn out! Notable Scene: Just as I stab a sausage link and shove it into my mouth, I feel a shift. Natalie looks up over my shoulder with wide, dreamy eyes and I know a body is standing at my side. “‘Scuse me, ma’am?” I hear the Southern accent and immediately feel the hairs on my neck rise. I chew as quickly as I can and swallow it down, nearly choking when I try to speak. “Uh, yes?” Up close, he’s even bigger looking. Well over six feet tall, and I can almost see his ab muscles through his shirt. “I was wonderin’ if you could help settle an argument between my friend and me?” I blink up at him, mouth gaping open. “Sure.” I clear my throat, realizing what he’s doing. I’ve heard dozens of pickup lines start out just like this. It usually ends up being something super cheesy. By the smirk on his face, I’m almost willing to bet him and his friend are arguing about how pretty I am and want me to say which one I’d go on a date with. “Well, my friend over there said there was no way you’d find me good-lookin’. I told him there’s no way you’d be able to resist my Southern charm and undeniably sexy abs, so since we can’t seem to agree, figured I’d come right to the source and ask myself.” He stares intently at me for a moment, licking his lower lip before he sucks it in briefly as I remain dumbfounded. “So whaddaya think? Is he right?” He gives me one of those smug, I-think-I’m-God’s-gift-to-women winks before showing a slight preview of the abs he felt so inclined to mention. Opening Sentence: On a drowsy Sunday afternoon, a man in a long dark coat hesitated in front of a house on a tree-lined street. The Review: Jude was only seven years old when her parents were brutally murdered right in front of her! To her dismay she is taken to live with the fae along with her two sisters! Years later she has found that while life is brutal in the high fae courts it’s also the only life she has really known! She has no desire to go back to the mortal world but she must prove herself worthy to stay! She does the only thing she can think of and defies the youngest son of the fae king! Prince Cardan is cunning, beautiful and cruel! Going head to head with him is a bad idea but Jude’s willing to risk it if it will get her what she wants! Jude is one of those heroines that is hard to love at first but as time goes on you learn to understand her and eventually come to completely love her! She is someone that has been dealt an impossible hand and she deals with it the best she can! She has to choose the better of two evils many times in her life! She’s a very flawed character that makes mistakes but also has great triumphs! She has become one of my favorite heroines if all time and I can’t wait to see where her story goes next! Cardan is one of those book boys that you despise yet fall head over heels for! He’s a total privilege jerk but he’s hot as sin! For the most part the story focuses more on Jude so you don’t get to know Cardan as well as I want, but I’m hoping in the next book his story will be revealed more! Words cannot describe how much I truly loved this book! From the first page, I was captured and I literally couldn’t put it down! The brutal setting, the unforgettable characters, and the subtle romance was all so perfect! Blacks writing was captivating and the story was weaved perfectly! If you are a YA fantasy fan this book is absolutely a must read!!! Notable Scene: Prince Cardan, sixth-born to the High King Eldred, yet still the absolute worst, strides across the floor towards us. Valerian, Nicasia, and Locke—his three meanest, fanciest, and loyal friends—follow him. The crowd parts and hushes, bowing is a pass. Cardan is wearing his usual scale, excess arise with kohl under his eyes and a circlet of gold in his midnight hair. He has on a long black coat with a high, jagged color, the whole thing stitched with the pattern of constellations. Valerian is in deep red, cabochon rubies sparkling on his cuffs, each like a drop of frozen blood. Nicasia’s hair is a blue-green of the ocean, crowned with a diadem of pearls. A glittering cobweb net covers her braids. Locke brings up the rear, looking bored, his hair the precise color a fox fur. FTC Advisory: Little, Brown Books for Young Readers provided me with a copy of The Cruel Prince. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review. ...more |

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales Quick & Dirty: A mystery that was interesting but ultimately didn’t work for me. Opening Sentence: “Twenty dollars Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales Quick & Dirty: A mystery that was interesting but ultimately didn’t work for me. Opening Sentence: “Twenty dollars an hour,” I say to the guy who’s stopped me as I head for Doc Southcott’s. Excerpt: No The Review: Winter will do anything to get out of the nowhere town of Reeves End! She has made a plan and just like most other kids in her town it means leaving and not coming back. The only thing she likes about her rugged mining town is the woods. But one day even her beloved woods become tainted when she finds a local boy left for dead! It turns out her town is a lot more interesting and dangerous then she ever knew. It has left Winter questioning everything she has ever known and whether or not anyone actually left town at all! I adored Winter because she was brave and smart, but it was really hard to like any of the other characters in the book. Winter in some ways made up for my lack of connecting with any of the other characters, but for me, secondary characters are really important and that lack of connection was a real struggle for me! This story was really middle of the road for me. It wasn’t bad but I wouldn’t really say it was good either! It was really slow paced and that made me start to lose interest in it. I kept putting it down to read something else that was catching my interest more. I did think the mystery was well done but I might have liked a little more foreshadowing because honestly, I got confused more than I liked. I do think the idea was intriguing and the author has great writing but overall, this just fell really flat for me. If you like Armstrong’s other books you may really enjoy this one or if you like slower paced mysteries you might enjoy it more than I did! Notable Scene: He’s dead. I’m sure of that now. With everything going on, he hasn’t even stirred. As I lay my fingers on his neck, I get a better look at his face–inky black eyelashes against a pale cheek, dark stubble, arched brows, one split lip bitten under impossibly white teeth–and I have this bizarre urge to kiss those lips and see him wake, like Sleeping Beauty. Which proves I’m in a lot of pain and possibly hallucinating. FTC Advisory: Penguin Random House provided me with a copy of Missing. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review. ...more |

Opening Sentence: The overpacked moving box teetered precarilously in my arms as I stepped sideways, using my hip to close the back door of my car. Excerpt: Yes The Review: Stephanie knows that loves exists but she’s never experienced it herself! Sure she’s met and hooked up with tons of hot guys but she’s never felt that spark with anyone until Nick! It started out as one hot night but a secret brings them back together and eventually Stephanie finds herself wanting more! Nick had a complicated life and a girlfriend would just bring more stress and complications. But he can’t deny his attraction to Stephanie and the connection they share! Can he break down her walls and make her his for good? From the moment I met Stephanie in the first book in the series, I was intrigued by her. I wasn’t quite sure if I liked or hated her but as she kept popping up through out the series, I slowly started to love her, so I was so glad when Armentrout announced she would have her own book. She’s a no nonsense girl and you basically see what you get and I loved that about her. She’s definitely not perfect but she doesn’t try to hide her flaws and I liked that. She’s smart, sexy, confidant and sweet. I really loved getting to know her and honestly she might be one of my favorite girls in the series! Nick is such a stud and I couldn’t have loved him more. Sure he can act like a jerk at times but he is such a great guy when you learn more about his life! I loved his interaction with Steph. They had electric chemistry and were seriously so cute together! Forever With You is a sexy, emotional and fun story that I throughly enjoyed reading! The pacing was spot on, the characters were developed perfectly and the romance was perfectly done! I loved seeing all of my favorite characters from the series and meeting new ones! I have loved all the books in the series but this one was definitely one of my favorites! If you like new adult romances this is not a series to be missed! Notable Scene: “Guilty.” He stepped inside, and I closed the door behind him. “I know it’s late, but I don’t have your number or I would’ve called you.” “You could’ve just waited till the morning.” He glanced at me as he shook his head. “Actually, it would’ve driven me crazy all night if I didn’t come and at least try to talk to you.”Unsure of what to make of all of this, I bit the inside of my cheek and stepped around him. Nick glanced at the TV a raised a brow. “Never Been Kissed?” FTC Advisory: I bought my own copy of Forever With You. Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales Quick & Dirty: A heart pounding story that will keep you on the edge of you seat! Opening Sentence: “For the last t Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales Quick & Dirty: A heart pounding story that will keep you on the edge of you seat! Opening Sentence: “For the last time, tell me what family she was assigned to and I will untie you.” Excerpt: No The Review: Cara is getting ready to start her senior year of high school and has it all, or at least it looks as if she does! She’s popular, has a hot boyfriend, great friends and a loving family! But when her boyfriend dies her perfect life falls apart! People start blaming Cara for his death and it looks as if senior year is going to be harder then Cara originally planned! As she tries to pick up the pieces of her broken life things start to take a sinister turn and it looks as if there really was more to her boyfriends death then she thought! Cara was an interesting character but I struggled relating to her! She is a sweet girl with good intentions but she cared too much about what others thought of her! The more I read the more I liked her but it took a little time! The villain was my favorite part of the story! I loved the little moments where we got to be inside their head because you could see how twisted their mind was! I found it fascinating and it really added to the creepy vibe of the story! As You Lay Sleeping was an intriguing thriller that had a few problems but was overall a great read! My one problem with the book was how immature the characters would act at times. In all reality the way they acted was a very accurate portrayal of how many high school students behave, but in so many YA books nowadays the characters act very mature. Personally, I like that because I can relate to them easier but let’s be honest, it’s not very realistic. But due to this it was hard for me to develop a connection with the main character because I found her a little superficial and she would annoy me at times. That’s not to say I didn’t like her because I did, but I would have liked to be able to relate to her better! Overall, I thought it was a good story and I would highly recommend it to thriller fans!!! Notable Scene: I poked him again but he didn’t move. Two can play at that game. I flipped the flashlight on my phone and pointed it at his face. I expected him to pop up with a goofy grin, then go into a tirade on how he “got me.” Instead, Joe didn’t move. At all. Surprisingly, he was a light sleeper, yet he insisted on listening to music and television to fall asleep. The change in volume should have woken him, and the flashlight definitely would have. I really enjoyed this one and would highl Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales Quick & Dirty: Action-packed adventure full of humor, romance and heart! I really enjoyed this one and would highly recommend it to YA sci-fi fans. Opening Sentence: In three weeks, Noemi Vidal will die–here, in this very place. The Review: Noemi Vidal grew up on the planet Genesis and for the last few years they have been in a deadly war with Earth. She has trained to be a fighter pilot against the deadly machines earth sends to try to take over her planet! She’s willing to do anything to stop Earth, even give up her life! Abel had been stuck on an abandoned space ship for the last 30 years. He is a robot but his creator made him different. He has emotions and feelings that make him seem almost more human than machine. All he wants is to be free from his prison and to return to his creator! When Noemi and Abel’s worlds collide they are forced to work together. Both determined to save the people they love, they will embark on a dangerous journey to stop the war for good! I adored Noemi right off the bat. She’s a little rough around the edges and a no nonsense type of person but she also has a big heart. She cares deeply for the people in her life and she has no problem sacrificing everything to save her home. She is a heroine you can root for and admire! Abel was so clever and adorable! I loved how he had a calculated answer to everything but the way he presented it was witty and fun! He’s a total know-it-all but surprisingly he has a lot of compassion for others! His relationship with Noemi was so cute! They were good people on their own but they were amazing together! I definitely fell hard for Abel and I think he has made it onto my fav book boyfriends list. Defy the Stars is an action-packed story full of humor, romance and adventure! I truly enjoyed the world that Gray created. It was so imaginative and interesting! The plot was very intriguing and the pacing was perfect! I loved all the characters and just thoroughly enjoyed reading this! If you didn’t know, I am a huge fan of Claudia Gray and this was once again another fantastic read! If you enjoy YA science fiction this one is a must read!!! Notable Scene: What hits her next is that Abel’s already attracting attention. A lot of it. Not because he looks like a machine, but because he might have the single most perfect body Noemi’s ever seen. Or imagined. He could be some ancient marble sculpture, with his pale skin, developed muscles, and exact symmetry. If she didn’t know he was just a machine, she might even think he was… FTC Advisory: Little, Brown Books for Young Readers provided me with a copy of Defy the Stars. Quick & Dirty: Wonderful regency novel filled with magic, demons and romance, I LOVED this book and can’t wait to read the rest of the series!!! Openin Quick & Dirty: Wonderful regency novel filled with magic, demons and romance, I LOVED this book and can’t wait to read the rest of the series!!! Opening Sentence: In the sun-warmed quiet for uncle’s library, Lady Helen Wrexhall spread the skirt of her muslin morning gown and sank into the deep curtsy required for Royal presentation: back held straight, head slightly bowed, left knee bent so low, it nearly touch the floor. The Review: Lady Helen Wrexhall is getting ready to have her coming out ball! In London society it is pertinent that you make a great impression if you expect to achieve a advantageous marriage. Lady Helen has done everything to prepare herself for society, but with a black mark already glooming from her past she must make sure that everything is perfect. Her adventurous personality and witty remarks won’t do her any favors but she can’t seem to stop herself from acting improper at times. When one of her house maids goes missing she is determined to find out what happened to the poor girl. This leads her to the mysterious Lord Carlston, a man who fights demons in his past time! It turns out lady Helen isn’t just an ordinary young women, she also has the marvelous power to defeat demons! But choosing to embrace her powers will mean giving up the life she has worked so hard to achieve! Will she decide to live a normal life or follow a unknown destiny filled with adventure and possible heartbreak! I LOVED Lady Helen! She was such an invigorating character. She’s intelligent, caring, witty and fun. In the society she lives in she was very improper but I found that so refreshing! She’s no where near perfect and her mistakes are costly at times, but that just made her more realistic and someone you could relate to. It was funny because there are times where she would be overly cautious then there were other times when she would act without thinking. It hade her character unpredictable and I really liked that! I thought she was an amazing heroine and I can’t wait to read more of her adventures in the books to come! Lord Carlston is ridiculously dreamy and I couldn’t have loved him more! He is broody, mysterious, devilish, and of course he’s gorgeous too! He can be charming when he wants but most of the time he is distant and rather cold. As you peel away his layers you find that he is a kind hearted soul that has a very sad past! I can’t wait to find out even more about him in the books to come! The Dark Days Club was a fantastic story filled with action-packed adventure and subtle romance! I loved, loved, loved the historical setting and I thought that Goodman did such a wonderful job creating a realistic yet unique world! The romance was very slow burning but done perfectly! I thought the plot was very intriguing and the while the pacing was a little slow it was perfect for the story! I adored all the characters and thought they each played a vital part to the the story! This was easily one of my favorite reads this year and I can’t wait to read the sequel (which lucky for me is releasing very soon)! If you are looking for an amazing urban fantasy read give this one a try. You will not regret it! Notable Scene: He raised his hand, and she saw the miniature flat against his palm. Did he expect her to jump for it? Uncertain, she stopped, stranded between the sofa and the window. He glanced over at Mr. Brummell and Aunt again, then drew his hand back. His fingers closed around the portrait. Even as she thought, he’s going to throw it, he whipped his hand forward and hurled the small missile at her with brutal strength. A blur of gold streaked toward her head. She snatched it out of the air a moment before it hit her forehead, the stinging impact against her palm muffled by the lace of her mitt. God’s blood, how much she done that? It felt so easy and natural. She opened her fist. The glass front was unharmed, her mothers portrait safely intact. The Earl’s deep sound of satisfaction brought her head up. All of his expression was centered in a fierce light in his eyes: exaltation. Quick & Dirty: Intriguing read that is full of mystery, romance and magic. It’s more for upper YA/NA audiences but it is a fun read. Opening Sentence: Quick & Dirty: Intriguing read that is full of mystery, romance and magic. It’s more for upper YA/NA audiences but it is a fun read. Opening Sentence: Behind me, the branches and trees crunched and snapped as the creature tore through them. The Review: Gideon Davorin’s Traveling Sideshow is an extraordinary circus that you don’t want to miss! The performers all have rather special talents that shouldn’t be humanly possible and it’s because they aren’t completely human! The only person without some kind of special ability is Mara. She has spent her entire life with the circus because her mother is one of the main acts! But Mara has always dreamed of having a normal life! The show goes where the money is, so when they are asked to visit Caudry, Louisiana they go without question! On the first night there Mara meets, Gabe, a local boy who gives her a taste of the normal life she so desperately wants. But soon performers start to disappear and it is up to Mara to solve the mystery behind the disappearances! At first I struggled with Mara, but the more I read the more I liked her. She has a very free spirit and at times it made her seem cold. Making connections with people is hard when you move all the time, so I get why she doesn’t want to get attached, but it made it hard for me to build a connection with her. As the story progressed, I got to see how amazingly loyal, brave and smart she is, so by the end I thought she was a great heroine!!! Gabe had me at hello and I seriously loved him throughout the entire book. He was funny, sweet, sexy, and charming! His relationship with Mara developed quicker then I would have liked but I still loved them together! Gabe is one of those mysterious bad boys you can’t help but fall for! Freeks was a unique story with fun characters, cute romance and great suspense! It definitely reads more like a new adult book because the characters are mostly in their upper teens which I really enjoyed! It was a very quick read for me and I thought the pacing was spot on. The plot was a little predictable and I struggled a little with some of the characters, but overall, I thought this was an entertaining read and I would recommend it if you are looking for a steamy, paranormal read! Notable Scene: I fell forward and tried to climb to higher ground, but the ground had swallowed my legs up. There wasn’t enough time for me to get free. It was close enough that I could smell the sulfur on its breath. I could hear the beast behind me–it made a strange high-pitched guttural sound, like a demonic squeal of delight. Grabbing a broken branch, I turned around to face the creature as it tore through the trees toward me. I brandished the branch like a weapon. If I was going down, I was going down swinging. FTC Advisory: St. Martin’s Griffin/Macmillan provided me with a copy of Freeks. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review. ...more |

I loved thi Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales Quick & Dirty: This was such a fun story featuring a feisty heroine, a hot warlord and lots of action. I loved this one and can’t wait to read the next book in the series! Opening Sentence: I pluck at my crimson tunic, tenting the lightweight linen away from my sticky skin. The Review: Fisa has been a soothsayer in a traveling circus for eight years now and she is content to live out her life in the shadows away from her family, her magic, and her destiny! Because Cat is no ordinary girl with magic, she is the Kingmaker and her magic would be a huge benefit to many powerful people. One such person is, Griffin, a warlord that recently came into power in his kingdom! When he discovers who Cat really is he kidnaps her in hopes of persuading her to help him keep peace in his kingdom! He would love for Cat to do it willing and soon griffin finds himself falling for this stubborn witty girl! But Cat has so many secrets and even more enemies! Can they work through their differences and find love before their enemies destroy them? Cat was such a fun MC! Her spunky attitude was hilarious and refreshing! She had no problem telling people exactly what she thought but in a way it was just a front to stop people from getting too close. She has a brutal childhood and you can see the scars that were left from her experiences! I loved watching her learn to love and connect with others! Her stubbornness and pride weren’t her best attributes but as you learn more about her it made sense why she was the way she was! Overall, I thought she was a wonderful heroine and she was so easy to love! I can’t wait to read more of her story! Ok, now I need to tell you about the love interest!!! Griffin is so ridiculously sexy it’s kind of unfair! He has a very commanding presence and at times he can be very intimidating. But then there are moments when he shows so much kindness and compassion to others! His relationship with Cat is very entertaining and steamy! I loved watching them figure each other out and eventually fall in love! I thought Griffin was the perfect love interest and he has made it onto my list of favorite book boyfriends! A Promise of Fire is a wonderful, epic high fantasy immersed with Greek mythology and romance! I picked this up because I needed a change from my normal YA books and I am so glad I did! The world was captivating, the pacing was spot on, the plot was intriguing and the romance was perfect! I loved the entire cast of characters and I thought the writing was phenomenal! I loved how the story ended as well. It wasn’t a cliffhanger but it did leave me hoping for more! If you like steamy fantasy books, I highly suggest you pick this one up!!! Notable Scene: I freeze, stunned. Disbelief leaves a sour taste in my mouth. “H-How did you get back here?” He steps inside, crosses his arms, and leans casually against the tent post. The torch pops, sending a flicker of firelight over him that illuminates his inky hair and sun-bronzed ski. The wavering glow highlights the hard muscles rippling under his rolled-up sleeves, tapering down to corded forearms, thick wrists, and powerful hands. Hands that could break me in two. His teeth flash. Wolfish. Confident. ” I have my ways.” FTC Advisory: I purchased my own copy of A Promise of Fire. Openin Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales Quick & Dirty: Cute story but not anything amazing. I enjoyed the humor but I felt like it dragged a little! Opening Sentence: He’s senile. The Review: Jane works hard and keeps to herself. She lost her parents years ago and ever since they passed she has had to take care of her two over privileged younger sisters. She very rarely has any time for herself and dating has pretty much been a disaster. But then she meets a gorgeous, sweet guy who just happens to be a billionaire! Could he be her prince in shinning armor or is he just another jerk that doesn’t find her good enough? Brock has spent most of his life living in the shadow of his dead parents and overprotective grandfather. He can’t seem to ever say no to his grandfather even when he suggests that they auction Brock off to the highest bidder. It will be good press for the company and he only has to pretend to be interested in the winner. It’s too bad that a few weeks before the auction he meets a beautiful girl he can’t seem to resist even though she is all wrong for him! Jane was a really hard character to connect with. She is such a pushover and honestly it got on my nerves how she would pretty much do whatever anyone asked of her. She does eventually get better but it was too little too late in my opinion. I did like her work ethic and she is very kind hearted but it just didn’t make up for her overbearing flaws. I really wanted to like Jane but sadly I just couldn’t. Brock is your typical hot, rich bachelor who was far too moody! I like broody guys but he just took it to far. I didn’t like how hot and cold he was with Jane. It made their relationship feel awkward. I think that he could have been an amazing character but I felt like he was just to extreme! I really like bad boys but they have to be a good blend of jerk, misunderstood, and goodness. Sadly, Brock didn’t have a good balance and it made it hard to like him! The Bachelor Auction is a cute mordern day retelling if Cinderella but sadly it fell a little flat for me. I have come to realize that Rachel Van Dyken writes two very different kinds of books. Her books are either very dark with brooding characters and some kind of mystery or they are light hearted funny contemporary stories! For some reason, I only seem to like the darker books and sadly this was a funny contemporary, so I just couldn’t get into it as much as I wanted to. It’s weird because I LOVE some of Dyken’s books and others are just ok. I think part of the problem is they are meant to be funny and I guess it’s really not my type of humor! The romance was cute but not anything amazing! The plot was very predictable and the characters were just ok. I seem to sense a theme while writing this and that is the book was ultimately just ok. It wasn’t terrible by any means but it just wasn’t really for me. But if you like funny contemporary romances you may really enjoy this, so give it a try if it sounds good! Notable Scene: She’d felt beautiful. Powerful. How pathetic, that all it took was a well-dressed man with a gorgeous smile and a pair of shoes, to completely disarm her. And make her want things that girls like her would never get. Those shoes were a catalyst, Those shoes were temptation. Those shoes were the devil. It was brutal, fascinating, romantic and just all around amazing. You all must get this one asap!!! Opening Sentence: The steam rising off the backs of the cantering horses faded into the morning fog. The Review: Fallon is the proud daughter of a Celtic king and she is a fierce warrior. She has spent most of her life living in the shadow of her heroic sister who died saving her fathers life from the vicious Julius Caesar! When Fallon comes of age she plans to follow her sisters footsteps and join her fathers army! But on the eve of her birthday she is captured by a slave brigand and taken to the great city of Rome! There she is sold to a house owned by none other than Julius Ceasar himself! She will be trained to become a gladiator and she will learn to fight for a man she despises! Fallon’s future is full of danger and surprises she never saw coming! Is this the destiny she was meant to live or is she fighting a battle she can never win? Fallon was such an amazing heroine that I couldn’t help but admire! She is defiant, fierce, kind hearted, and loyal! She was also arrogant, stubborn and unforgiving at times! I thought she was such a well rounded character and I loved that. It made it easy to relate to her and I found myself cheering for her to succeed! I loved watching her grow and I can’t wait to see where her story goes next! Cai is a gorgeous roman solider that I completely fell for. He is sweet, sexy, and interesting! I do wish we could have gotten to know him a little better but what I did read I really liked! His relationship with Fallon was steamy and adorable! Once again, I would have liked a few more moments with them together but I feel like it’s a start to something that could be totally epic! I can’t wait to learn more about Cai in the next book because I can easily see him becoming a favorite book boy! The Valiant is filled with action packed adventure, wonderful relatable characters and epic romance. Once I picked this up, I seriously couldn’t put it down! I fell madly in love with each character, especially Fallon and Cai! I loved the idea of female gladiators and the way the story was written was just perfect! This is actually my first book by Livingston but rest assured it will not be my last! Her writing is captivating and and beautiful! This book comes out soon and it’s one you will want to buy ASAP!!! Notable Scene: I wrapped my heart in fury to keep the despair at bay as I knelt on the sodden grass of the riverbank to retrieve my sword from my bedroll. Before I could reach it, the moon disappeared behind the clouds again. As a river turned back to blackness, I caught the glimpse of a shadow looming up behind me in the reflection. I spun around, thinking Aeddan had found me first. My hand went instead for my dagger only to remember I’d left it lying in the embers of my home fire. It wasn’t Aeddan. A broad-shouldered man swung his fist like a mallet at my head. I fell, consumed by a dark red tide. FTC Advisory: Penguin/Razorbill provided me with a copy of The Valiant. This is one of my favorite books I have r Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales Quick & Dirty: Amazing swashbuckling adventure you will not soon forget. This is one of my favorite books I have read in a long time! I suggest everyone pick this one up ASAP!!! Opening Sentence: I hate having to dress like a man. The Review: The pirate king has just discovered that there is a very special map on board a enemy pirate ship and he decides to send his best mate to retrieve it! Alosa is the daughter of the pirate king and she is a force to be reckoned with! To accomplish her fathers wishes she stages her own kidnapping to gain passage on the ship! After all, who would suspect that a young women locked inside a cell would be a threat? But finding the treasure map proves more difficult then Alosa had planned and it doesn’t help that the very attractive first mate is suspicious of her! Can she get the map and get off the ship before her carefully laid out plan is ruined by a boy she shouldn’t even consider being attracted to? I think Alosa might be one of my all time favorite heroines ever! She is smart, ruthless, beautiful, caring and cunning. She loves dresses and nice things but she also has no problem slitting a mans throat if it will gain her what she needs! I would definitely categorize her as an antihero since she has some very villainous traits, but she is also a good person! I loved how bold and spirited she was, it made her very easy to love. She felt like such a realistic character and like I said, she has easily become one of my new favorite leading ladies! Riden is the epitome of what I would imagine a dreamy pirate would be like! He is charming, perceptive, kind, dangerous and gorgeous! He doesn’t underestimate Alosa and I loved that he treated her as an equal despite the fact that she was a girl! Their relationship was very entertaining and I loved how they interacted with each other. They brought out both the best and the worst in each other and they were so perfect for each other! If you can’t tell Riden has easily become one of my new favorite book boys and I imagine he will be for a long time to come! Daughter of the Pirate King was everything I wanted and more! There is swashbuckling adventure, steamy romance, bloody battles and cunning pirates all combined into an epic tale that I couldn’t put down! If you didn’t know I am a huge pirate fan and this story was so captivating and extremely entertaining, especially for anyone that loves pirates like I do! The plot was full of surprises, the characters were wonderfully crafted and the writing was phenomenal! The pacing was spot on and the romance was perfection! If you can’t tell, I was a huge fan of this story and I would say it was hands down the best book I have read this year! I would recommend it to all YA fans. it is a story you don’t want to miss! Notable Scene: Once they’re out of sight, I smile. Riden isn’t the only one to have gathered information during our little chat. I learned that Riden and Draxen are brothers, sons of the pirate Lord Jeskor. I’m still unsure as to what happened to Jessore and his original crew for Draxen to inherit the ship, but I’m sure I will learn that later. Riden’s a good shot, and he has his captain’s confidence. How Else did he manage to convince Draxen not to kill any more of my men? I wonder what he whispered to him back on the other ship and why he bothered to step in, in the first place. Riden’s concern for the men on the ship, not just with the normal concern that a first mate might have for the men he oversees. I think back to when he told me each of the men on the ship are killers and how sadden he was by it. He feels responsibility for something. Perhaps it is tied to whatever happened to the original crew of the Night Farer. There are many secrets aboard the ship, and I will have plenty of time to discover them all, starting tonight. I shake my right arm. I feel the metal slide down and slip into my hand. It’s the key to my cell. FTC Advisory: Feiwel & Friends/Macmillan provided me with a copy of Daughter of the Pirate King. It was slightly predicta Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales Quick & Dirty: A great mystery with realistic characters, cute romance and good suspense. It was slightly predictable, but I still really enjoyed it and highly recommend it to mystery/thriller fans! Opening Sentence: I sooth my four head against the icy car window and breathe out of path of fog. The Review: When Erin was two years old her mother was brutally murdered, but for some strange reason Erin was left alive! Her story hit national news and sadly her mothers killer was never found! The identity of Erin’s father is unknown so her mothers best friend raised her as her own. Despite having a tragic past, Erin has grown up as a rather normal teenager but her mothers unsolved murder is never far from her mind! It has been fourteen years and Erin has developed some forensic skills that she plans to use to solve her mothers case. But tragedy strikes again when Erin discovers the body of her beloved biology teacher. Could it be the same person who killed her mother? Erin is determined to find out and she enlists the help of Journey Michaels, a boy she has crushed on for years, who also happens to be a suspect in the murder! Erin was a wonderful MC that was very easy to develop a connection with! I think the reason why is despite having an interesting history, Erin was very normal! Sure, she was a little obsessed with solving mysteries but besides that she lived a normal teenage life. She had some great friends, a crush on a cute boy, and a loving parent! She was smart, kind, resourceful and fun. Overall, I thought she was a great character! I loved Journey! He is one of those guys you can’t help but crush on! He is the star basketball player, very popular but also totally down to earth! The romance was totally insta-like but honestly it worked for me because it totally reminded me of what my high school relationships were like. We would flirt all awkwardly and then all of a sudden we were boyfriend/girlfriend! The relationship between Journey and Erin was very similar but to me it felt realistic and perfect for the story! To Catch a Killer is a fun mystery filled with suspense and great characters! I don’t really read a lot of mysteries due to the fact that it’s so hard to surprise me but I’m glad I read this one. I will be honest, the killer was very predictable to me, but I still found this to be a very enjoyable read! I love how the author incorporated science and forensics into the story. It gave it a unique twist! If you are a YA mystery/thriller fan, I definitely think you should pick this one up! Notable Scene: There’s a quick jolt of recognition. I wasn’t expecting to see him here like this, and I definitely hope he doesn’t see me. Journey Michaels jaw tightens. His gaze sweeps the room, looking for who or what brought this down on his head. For the second time today, he looks directly at me, only this time instead of sizzle, his expression reveals an anger so hot it could melt tungsten. I expect him to look different to me now. I mean, if he’s a killer he should look different. Right? I can’t help it, though–I still fill a tug. There’s something about a Journey Michaels that draws me to him. I bury my face in Rachel shoulder and she strokes my hair. “Hey, it’s OK to cry, you know. This is one of those times.” Rachel means well but she never totally gets it. Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales Quick & Dirty: Amazing emotional story filled with romance, suspense and drama. I loved this book. It was a great Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales Quick & Dirty: Amazing emotional story filled with romance, suspense and drama. I loved this book. It was a great addition to this amazing series! Opening Sentence: The instructions of the English homework I didn’t do hang out from the top of my folder: Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and sorry I could not travel both. The Review: Violet grew up at the Reign of Terror clubhouse alongside the other children of the club members. Her father taught her to be a strong women and to never settle. When her father is killed in an accident her world comes tumbling down. The men she grew up knowing as family suddenly become suffocating and the boy she loves refuses to put her before the club. Deciding that distance is the best option, Violet breaks up with her longtime boyfriend Chevy and tries to cut all ties with the Reign of Terror. But months later a rival gang seeks her out and makes threats she can’t ignore. What is she willing to give up to keep her family safe? Who can she really trust? I struggled with Violet at first because I felt like she was so inconsistent and at first she came across as such a brat. Now to be fair, I kind of felt that way about her from the previous books, but luckily as the story progressed I really grew to love and understand her. She is very stubborn and there are certain things that she wants that she isn’t willing to give up. Her determination is very admirable and she eventually won me over. Just thinking about Chevy makes me slightly giddy. He is so sexy and he is such a great guy. His whole life he has always tried to please everyone and let’s be real, that just isn’t reality. But he had such a hard time disappointing people he cared about. It was heartbreaking to watch him struggle but it was also inspiring. I felt like he grew so much throughout the story and I fell madly in love with him. Long Way Home is a beautiful, emotional, heartbreaking romance that I really enjoyed. I was surprised by how intense this one was compared to the previous books in the series, but I felt it was the perfect addition to the story. The pacing was spot on and the plotline was very intriguing. I loved how sexy and dramatic the romance was and I was in heaven that my favorite characters from the Pushing the Limits series made a small appearance. McGarry has such captivating writing. Her stories are so easy to get lost in, but I also love how inspiring they are. I can’t wait to see whose story will be next! I thought this was a wonderful read and if you like sexy romance stories with lots of drama and suspense you have to pick up this series ASAP! Notable Scene: Chevy places his hand on my biceps and forces it down. “That’s not your mom’s car.” It’s not. Mom would never drive like that and those aren’t the headlights of a minivan. Those belong to something with some muscle. A scary sixth sense creeps along my skin. Growling engines, then three single beams appear. Motorcycles. Those motorcycles aren’t chasing the car. they’re following. M stomach lurches as I stumble back. Chevy steps forward and he draws his knife out of the sheath. Excerpt: No The Review: Nineteen year old Juliet has lived a quiet life with her mother but recently her mother passed away and it has left Juliet devastated! Ever since she was a child Juliet has been deaf and it has caused her to feel awkward in social settings! She would love nothing more then to live out her life in her childhood home making hats but that dream is being threatened by a Lord Nicholas Thornton. He wants her estate and will go to great measures to obtain it! On the day of her mothers funeral Juliet happens upon Lord Thornton yelling at a random grave in the cemetery. Once he leaves Juliet decides to investigate and she comes across a very beautiful flower planted by a grave marked “Hawk”. When she touches the flower an very distinguished ghost appears and for the first time Juliet can hear. The ghost remembers nothing of his past other then the name of Thornton! Juliet is such an amazing heroine and it was so interesting to experience life through her eyes! She is deaf but to most people she appears completely normal because she can read lips so well. But in the society she lives in being different was never a good thing. But once she meets Hawk her whole world changes and I loved being able to experience so many guests with her! She is a strong, intelligent young woman that was easy to relate to. I adored reading her story and think so many others will too. Hawk is totally swoon worthy! I love how he is constantly flirting without even trying. He is just one of those charming guys you can’t help but fall head over heels for. His relationship with Juliet is adorable and very sexy! They have some amazing sexual tension, but they also have a beautiful friendship. I loved watching them fall in love! If you like your book boys hot and charming you are going to adore Hawk! Nicholas is very mysterious and kind. He’s not as forward as Hawk, so it takes longer to get to know him, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t love him any less! I love that you didn’t know what to expect from his character! His relationship with Juliet was interesting and intense! He was swoon worthy in a different way, but swoon worthy all the same. The Architect of Song is a slow burning mystery that will keep you guessing until the very end! I LOVED this story so much!!! It has sexy romance, diverse characters and an amazing setting! I have always been a sucker for historic gothic settings and you combine that with Anita’s gorgeous writing, it was destined to be amazing! The pacing was a little slow at first but as things progressed my interest in the plot just continued to increase. If you can’t tell, I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait for the next one in the series!!! If you are a new adult paranormal fan you must check this one out! Notable Scene: I separated the petals to look closer at the luminescent polled. Before I could make sense of it, a song burst through my ears. My spine tingled with sensation–alert. Impossible. I had to be mistaken. Eleven years without sound; so much time gone by with only the roar of emptiness–more desolate than living within a seashell. How could I suddenly hear? FTC Advisory: A.G. Howard graciously provided me with a copy of The Architect of Song. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review. ...more |

If you l Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales Quick & Dirty: Unique, amazing story that is probably the best historical fiction story I have ever read. If you like romance, action, and adventure you need to read this book! Opening Sentence: There were five thousand souls stuffed into the train cars–thick and deep like cattle. The Review: Imagine what would have happened if Hitler had won WWII! Well, that is the reality that seventeen year old Yael finds herself in! At the age of six she was sent to one of the Nazi’s concentration camps and soon after arriving they started to preform experiments on her. Over the course of a few years the experiments gave her the ability to change her appearance! She was eventually able to escape but not without losing many loved ones along the way. Yael has now joined a resistance group that is determined to bring down Hitler and Yael is their biggest weapon! Yael’s mission is to win the Axis tour, a long distance motorcycle race, and the prize is a special banquet where Hitler will be present! Winning the race will mean a chance to murder him in front of millions of people because the banquet is televised live! Yael will have to and impersonate last year’s winner, Adele Wolfe, in order to complete her daunting task! For the last year Yael has learned everything she could about Adele but all her studies didn’t prepare her for everything and everyone she had to face in Axis Tour! I adored Yael right from the beginning! Her story was so heartbreaking and inspirational. Someone in her shoes could have easily given up but instead she chose to fight. She uses her very extraordinary talents to try to make the world a better place. I loved how witty, resourceful, and compassionate she was. She is one of those characters you can’t help but admire and love. She was extremely easy to connect with and I cannot wait to see where her story goes in the next book. Luka was probably my favorite character in the book! He is totally swoon worthy and honestly he had me at hello. With his good looks, charm, and celebrity status he is pretty much the epitome of every girls dream boy. But as you dig deeper you come to realize that he is so much more than just a hot guy that is great at riding a motorcycle! I love competitiveness between Yael and Luka it was fun to read about! Their relationship was very unique and I loved watching things develop between them! Wolf by wolf was such a unquiet incredible read that I just couldn’t put down! To be fair the beginning was a little slow but I personally found the background story very interesting! I thought the characters were developed perfectly and the plot was very intriguing!!! Graudin’s writing was descriptive and beautiful! The ending was a little brutal but luckily the second book comes out later this fall! If you are looking for a fantastic historical fiction full of action, romance and adventure this is a must read! Notable Scene: All went still. Silent except for their geyser-hiss breaths and the Fuhrer’s spinning-silk lies from the television: “Our racers are pure. Our racers are strong. They are the next generation, bearers of light into the still-dark continents of this world.” Adele didn’t beg. Her eyes were ice and slit. She stared past the gun, straight at Yael. “Who are you?” Not What do you want?or What are you doing here? Who are you? Who? Who? Who? Why, of all questions, this one? Yael did not answer. She held the pistol tight and brought it down in a quick, blunt move to Victor Wolfe’s skull. FTC Advisory: I purchased my own copy of Wolf by Wolf. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review. ...more |

I really enjoyed this book and would hig Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales Quick & Dirty: Intriguing story full of romance, adventure, and suspense. I really enjoyed this book and would highly suggest you give it a try if you like YA dystopian novels! Opening Sentence: I am going to be flogged, and I don’t know why I’m so suprised about it. The Review: Every twelve years all the people that reside in the city of Canaan loose all of their previous memories! The only way for them to know who they are is to keep written records of their lives. Every citizen keeps a daily journal so that when the forgetting occurs they can remember who they were. It is the law to only write the truth but not everyone is as honest as they should be and seventeen year old Nadia knows it. She has lived through one forgetting but unlike everyone else in Canaan Nadia didn’t forget. The forgetting has always been a mystery to Nadia and she wants to know what causes it to occur. As she dangerously ventured outside of the walls of the city with Gray, the mysterious yet charming glassblower’s son, she soon learns secrets about Canaan and it’s people. If they can’t stop the forgetting from happening everyone will once again loose their memories, including Gray! Nadia was such an interesting heroine! She actually reminded me a lot of Katniss because she comes across as very cold and calculated! She doesn’t trust others easily and she is very uptight! But she has some very endearing qualities as well! She has a big heart and she is very clever. She’s also brave and spontaneous at times! It took me a little bit to get use to her but once I did I loved her. She was such a dynamic character that you can’t help but respect and adore. Gray had me at hello! I seriously don’t know if I have fallen for a book boy faster. He is hot, charming, flirtatious, and just a good guy. Even Nadia describes him as someone everyone likes and honestly I think all readers will agree with her. He is smart, driven, kind, and funny. But he has just enough imperfections that make him feel realistic! His relationship with Nadia is freaking adorable! I LOVED them together so much! In so many ways they balance each other out and it was so much fun to watch them slowly fall in love. If you can’t tell Gray is easily one of my new favorite book boys!!! The Forgetting was such a fun, unique read full of romance, mystery, and action. I was instantly drawn into the world that Cameron created and I never got bored! The pacing was spot on, the plot was full of twists, the characters were amazing, and the romance was perfection. There really isn’t a single negative thing I can say about this story. If you are looking for a unique young adult story, this is just for you! Notable Scene: “Have a good resting, Nadia the Dyer’s daughter?” I snatch up my tethered pack, my last hairpin lost to the grasses. That voice was not my mother’s. It was deep and very male, coming from the shaded shadows beyond the arches, beneath the covered corner of Jin’s garden. I step back, glancing once at the place I’ve hidden the pole. I’ll never get the ladder back in time. The roof is too high to jump from and the voice is between me and the stairs to the street. Correction: Today is the day I’m caught. I feel sweat on my neck, and not from the sun. FTC Advisory: Scholastic provided me with a copy of The Forgetting. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review. ...more |

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales Quick & Dirty: Adorable story with a wonderful message and lots of great humor. If you are looking for a fun light Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales Quick & Dirty: Adorable story with a wonderful message and lots of great humor. If you are looking for a fun light read you should check this one out! Opening Sentence: “You’re not late, Beatrice,” my mom said as she rolled the Prius to as stop in from of Spencer’s house at exactly two minutes to eight. The Review: Beatrice or better known as Bea is not your typical high school senior! She has always excelled academically and she has a very good chance of earning a scholarship to MIT. But she has experienced one thing most high school students experience and that is being bullied. For the last three years she and her two best friends, Spencer and Gabe, have suffered from bullying more then most and Bea has decided she is going to do something about it! She creates a mathematical formula that is sure to be a success, but like all things in life nothing is a guarantee! At first it seems like the formula is perfect since Gabe is on his way to becoming the class president and Spencer’s art is finally getting the attention he has always deserved. But when Bea tries the formula on herself it doesn’t work out quite how she was expecting! Bea was a very amusing character! She is very charismatic, smart, and bubbly! She is one of those people you admire and kind of wish you were more like but at the same time she had flaws! Just like most people in the world she is unsure of certain things about her so she decides to run an experiment to see if she can fix her insecurities! Her journey was hilarious, entertaining, emotional and inspiring! I found her easy to relate to and really enjoyed reading her story! Gabe was the perfect best friend! I adored him and just thought he was written so perfectly! He is very outspoken, opinionated and reliable! He is gay but it didn’t feel forced or like a marketing ploy, which sadly it does in so many books nowadays! It just felt natural and he was a great addition to the story! I pretty much fell in love with Spencer right away. He is sweet, reserved, and respectful. I loved that he was willing to step way out of his comfort zone to help Bea with her experiment! He is shy and has a hard time expressing himself outside of his art. I enjoyed watching him learn to open up and truly let others see the real him! He was the perfect calm to Bea’s electrifying personality! I’m Not Your Manic Pixie Dream Girl is such an adorable, quirky, fun story that I really enjoyed! It is very different from anything else I have read by McNeil but it just proves to me that she can write anything! One of the reasons why she is such an amazing author is because she knows how to write diverse, relatable characters you can’t help but love. I also love that she delivered a very inspirational message in such a fun and entertaining way! The romance was adorable, the pacing was spot on and the plot kept me interested! The only complaint I had was that it was a little too predictable at times but it was still a fun read! If you are looking for a cute, light contemporary with sweet romance and a wonderful message you must pick this one up! Notable Scene: Something was percolating inside me, that familiar flutter of excitement I got whenever I was on the brink of a mathematical breakthrough. There was always a moment when I shifted my perspective, and in an instant, all the elements would come together with a beautiful simplicity that made me feel like a moron for not having seen it before. This was one of those moments. Our current sociological predicament could be boiled down to a simple linear equation. We knew the result, i.e., a tolerable school environment where we weren’t living in fear of an ass kicking every five minutes. I just had to work backward from there. FTC Advisory: HarperTeen provided me with a copy of I’m Not Your Manic Pixie Dream Girl. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review. ...more |

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales Quick & Dirty: Wonderful fast paced fantasy with spectacular romance, action, and magic. If you are a high fantasy Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales Quick & Dirty: Wonderful fast paced fantasy with spectacular romance, action, and magic. If you are a high fantasy fan, I suggest you give this one a try! Opening Sentence: Jardana’s body hummed with victory. The Review: Cyrene Strohm’s life has just recently been turned upside down. As an Affiliate to the queen she is one of the most privileged members of the court of Byern, but she also has magical powers that aren’t suppose to exist anymore. To try and learn more about her powers she must adventure to the land of Eleysia where it is said she can find someone that will be able to teach her. Her journey will be dangerous and she will learn far more about herself and her life then she could have ever imagined. I adore Cyrene. She is such a fun, witty character. She is kind, spirited, intelligent and loyal. But she is also rash, stubborn and determined to do what she thinks best. She is someone you can admire and root for. Her flaws made her realistic and her strengths made her relate-able. I thought she was a very well rounded character and I can’t wait to see where her story goes next. To avoid any kind of spoilers, I am not going to go into detail about any of the secondary characters, but I loved each one of them so much. They all added greatly to the story and played their part well. The love interest was very swoony and Cyrene’s group of friends were so intriguing. I really enjoyed learning more about each of them and I’m very interested to see what comes next! The Bound is a fast paced, action-packed sequel that will leave you dying for the final book. It had been quite a while since I have read The Affiliate, but luckily things came back to me quickly, so I didn’t feel lost in any way. I did feel that there were parts of the story that felt a little rushed but for the most part, I thought it flowed well. The romance was adorable but it did develop a little quicker then I would have liked. Now don’t get me wrong, I loved it, but it felt a little unrealistic to me. The world building was amazing and I really enjoy Linde’s writing, it is captivating and fun. The ending was brutal and left me dying for the next book!!! Suffice to say, this was a great read and I would highly recommend it to all YA fantasy fans!!! Notable Scene: Her head tilted to the sky, and with a breath, the dam broke. Her power lashed out of her in a deafening boom, rushing over the monsters like a tidal wave. She heard a crash and saw a beast had dropped to the ground. Another one dropped. And another. Then, they all dropped. Cyrene clawed tooth and nail across he ground toward the girl. She had no energy left, and darkness beckoned her, but this couldn’t all be for naught. “Are you ok?” Cyrene croaked. She reached out to touch the girl to try to offer some comfort. “What are you?” the girl breathed. Cyrene blacked out before she could answer. FTC Advisory: K.A, Linde/InkslingerPR provided me with a copy of The Bound. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review. ...more |
