They are always especially heartwarming on top of the usual “Hammer heat”, and this year’s is no exception. Neil is putting himself up for auction just to get someone to touch him again, even if it is just for one night. How sad is that? His Master died in an accident two years ago and while Neil needed time to grieve and come to terms with his loss, he is also lonely. Everyone at the Hammer knows what happened, and nobody knows what to do. They are respectful and nice about it, but Neil wants to return to the land of the living, yet has no idea how to do that. Luckily there is the auction which allows him to make the statement of being back without words.
Master Dalton is more than interested in Neil, but, like many others, was never sure if his advances would be welcome. He has more at stake than a stranger as well. He is Neil’s best friend, and doesn’t want to ruin that for anything. Seeing Neil up on the stage, in danger of being “sold” to someone else, is enough to make Dalton act. And while he is definitely a Dom, his uncertainty on how to proceed when his heart is involved showed a vulnerability I found very endearing.
Neil’s fears and anxiety about what is happening is heartbreaking. He has no self-confidence left, and initially thinks Dalton may just have spent the money to protect him. Or maybe for a pity f*ck. Neil resists letting his attraction get the better of him because he doesn’t want just one night. He is looking for longer term, and doesn’t want to lose his best friend over something temporary. His slow realization that none of his expectations are right was great to watch, and I cheered him on every step of the way.
If you like your Christmas stories to contain some kinky and very loving play, if two men who want to go beyond the friendship they already have interest you, and if you’re looking for an emotional read with lots of heat, then you will probably like this short story.

At the same time I am with Theo, the lion/tiger shifter looking for his perfect sub: the name is pretty funny. The setup is pretty much like that of the Velvet Glove (the setting for another series by Sean Michael), but the paranormal element is what makes it different.
Drew is a wolf shifter who has been treated really badly by his alpha, then kicked out when said alpha mated a female to have pups. No wonder he is disappointed in the world and more than a little confused. But being "dropped off" at the Kennel Klub, rather than the shelter, like the evil alpha threatened, was the best thing that could have happened to Drew. He is safe, is being fed, has his own rooms, and nobody forces him to shift back into human form. He feels safer as a wolf - that is, until Theo comes along. Drew is curious, tempted, and attracted to the stranger all in one, but he has a lot to learn about being in human form again and I loved that I had a front seat to his "adventures".
Theo is definitely a good Dom and he knows exactly what he is looking for. Not physically, but he wants a sub with his own mind. He gets plenty of that with Drew, and enjoys both the real struggle for dominance and their play. He is always kind, especially once he understands what Drew has been through, and makes sure Drew enjoys what they do as much as he does.
If you like "BDSM club settings", if you enjoy a paranormal touch with lots of cat/dog references, and if you're looking for a fun, sensual, and hot read about two men who are made for each other, then you will probably enjoy this novella.

It doesn’t sound possible, and in our rational, logical world it could never happen – at least not on a permanent basis the way it does in ‘Mane and Tail’. In our world, most wishes only come true on a temporary basis and/or at a price that is prohibitive. But in the supernatural/magical world Sean Michael has created in what looks to be a very strange, very kinky world that is inhabited by demons and their servants, anything is possible.
Eric is a stressed-out executive who secretly dreams of a simpler life, so secretly in fact, that he does not even admit what he wants to himself. Then he follows the invitation of a strange man he met at a conference and walks through a door at the back of a bar and into a world he had no idea exists. Nothing makes sense to him at first: he is addressed as “pony”, a groom takes care of him and tries to help him adjust, and he is given a new name, his true pony name. And even though Eric has secretly imagined pony play and how it would make him feel, experiencing the reality of it is quite different. His emotions are all over the place, and it was fascinating to see the effect of what could be called brainwashing on his psyche.
Soren is in debt to a demon - not sure what that is for, exactly, not that it’s crucial – and he is working it off by training ponies, helping them find a groom of their own. Soren is excellent at what he does, and with a combination of patience and a love of the men under his care, he manages to become the best trainer in the stable. He sees his job as helping men understand and accept their deepest needs and truly wants to help. He also hopes to finally get a pony all his own – and when Eric appears, Soren knows he is the one for him.
As happy as both men end up being, I do think the price Eric pays is significant – he gives up the life he knows, a successful career, and what we’d call “normality”. Of course, that thinking is coming from someone who values freedom and free choice and has never imagined the things Eric clearly wants and needs. I found it fascinating to see Eric’s reactions and think Sean Michael did a great job describing his transformation. Basically, Soren summarizes who and what the men in this new world of Eric’s are very well: “We are not normal people.” Soren sounded very sure of that. “We know our deepest selves where our truest fantasies live and we follow them.” It’s a fascinating concept that is also more than a little scary.
If you like stories with more than a touch of the fantastical, if you enjoy worlds that are full of magic, sinful kinkiness, and almost over-the-top sexual fulfillment, and if you’re looking for a read that combines psychology and scorching man-on-man action, then you will probably like this novella. I look forward to more stories set in this world!

Greg doesn’t submit easily, and makes Brody fight for every inch. Luckily, Brody is not just up to the task, but also enjoys the fight almost as much as the result of having Greg under his control and in his care. Both men need to play their part to feel complete, and I found watching them get there deeply moving. Somehow the fact their physical relationship isn’t easy makes the eventual result so much more rewarding.

Even better – it wasn’t a reread of a story I adore, but a new tale about Ori, the majestic swan shifter who is a submissive, and Raynard, his hawk shifter Master. In classic Ori style, he worries about various things, and while it is clear that he has adapted to being seen as the bird shifters’ ruler, it is equally obvious that he couldn’t do it without Raynard’s support.
The focus of the story is Ori’s birthday that is also the one-year anniversary of his first shift. And while Ori is secure in knowing that Raynard is in charge, he also can’t stop himself from wondering whether Raynard is really happy with him and whether his wonderful life might not be too good to be true. Raynard’s way of reassuring Ori is as decisive as it is hot, whether in the cells Ori is inspecting at the beginning of the story or on the evening of Ori’s official birthday celebration. All the attention has exhausted Ori, but what Raynard has planned is the perfect way to fix everything.
If you like Ori and Raynard and want to know how they’re getting on, if a devoted sub serving his magnificent Master is to your liking, and if you’re looking for a short read that is as entertaining as it is hot, then you will probably like this short story as much as I do, I can’t get enough of these guys!

The first story of the series was about a robot-human hybrid In this world there are robots, robot-human hybrids, and natural-born humans and aliens. The first story of the series was about a robot-human hybrid who eventually became human. Don’t ask – it’s an unexplained process where the chips dissolve, one that just “happens”. Whether or not it makes sense is secondary, I think, to the point the author was trying to make. In this second story, the focus is on Joon, a BDSM-trained robot who is not thought to have the ability to become human. The central question is whether he would want to, and the answer is rather surprising, if not totally unexpected.
Joon lives on a pleasure satellite and is a trained Dom. His perception of the world, and biological beings like his clients, is rather different from the way we look at things, and I found the descriptions of his sensors and how he resets them really interesting. His ability to measure and perceive his clients’ reactions to what he does was truly helpful. As a full robot, he is not supposed to have feelings, but I have my suspicions about that. When it comes to Joon’s special client, all bets are off. Interestingly, said client also has a few secrets, and the reveal was well done, exciting, and Joon’s ultimate reaction made me smile.
If you like stories about robots who seem rather human, if you want to find out more about the secret desires of a robot built to give sexual pleasure, and if you’re looking for an entertaining read with a thought-provoking ending, then you will probably like this short story.

Or, getting back to the chess analogy of the series, by being happy and finally meshing into a family unit, they are leaving themselves vulnerable. "En Prise" means "exposed to capture" and while this is true for Jason, who has now dropped his barriers and is joining the three lovers in more than name, it is also valid when looking at them as a group. By exploring and admitting the love they feel for each other, as different as that may be from case to case, they are also "exposing themselves", or becoming vulnerable.
It all begins harmlessly enough. The men are getting ready for Christmas, Jason has truly settled in, has found his place, and there are many hot encounters between individual couples as well as all four of them. Holiday preparations have rarely been this sexy! Jason and Rook are definitely more of a couple, as are Knight and Bishop, but the balance with four works much better than it used to work with three. Each of the couples have their own way of doing things, of communicating, yet all four men together also work well. As it turns out they desperately need that strength.
Knight's accident sorely tests them as individuals and as a group. It was fascinating to see how each of their roles became crystal-clear as the crisis deepened and time progressed. Bishop, predictably, is the one most emotionally affected since he is closest to Knight. He is also the one who needs to be strong, who feels he has to hold them together. Rook completely collapses initially, he just cannot deal with the fear for Knight's health; but he is also the one whose optimism and joy for life they need as they pull out of the worst of it. Interestingly, it is newcomer Jason who keeps a cool head and keeps everything on an even keel. Both Bishop and Rook recognize this and I believe it is true: they could not have survived the situation without Jason. Well, certainly not without even more stress, a couple of meltdowns, and some hurtful yelling at each other.
This third volume is another great installment. The balance between the chess analogies and erotica definitely works for me, and this stage of their story was as explosive as I had hoped. If you like sexy men who challenge and support each other in equal measure, if you love to see them interacting physically wherever and whenever the need strikes them, and if you're interested in seeing the chess analogy continue, you will probably like this book as much as I did.

After some very hot Christmas auctions in the past, the newest installment features a white elephant game – with all sex toys, of course. All my favorite characters were present, and I couldn’t wait to find out what sexy ideas they had come up with.
Frank and Gordon (from ‘Push) leave early since they are in charge of hosting the singles party on Christmas Day and need some prep time (nudge, nudge, wink, wink). Kerry and Bellamy are relative newcomers (from ‘Trust’), and since Kelly is exhausted from running extra shifts at the Hammer Club, they leave early – not without the requisite gifts and some delicious food. But everyone else stays and the fun quickly develops, taking turns unwrapping all the gifts, from spreader bars and vibrators to paddles and penis plugs. The innuendo and exchanges of ideas are almost as scorching as the action that follows once the game finishes.
If you like your Christmas stories with a significant helping of kink, if you enjoy the friendships and camaraderie between all the couples of the ‘Hammer Club’ series, and if you’re looking for a read that resembles a well-organized orgy setup more than anything else, then you will probably enjoy this Hammer Christmas short story.

It is about an established couple who got married just before Steven was deployed and left Law behind for two years. This Christmas is a reunion for them, but it is also a chance to reconnect as sub and Master – something that takes some getting used to for both of them. It definitely makes for a very kinky Christmas!
Law is frustrated, missing his longtime sub and husband of two days before Steven was deployed for two years. Law refuses to decorate their house or do anything Christmas-y for fear of feeling Steven’s absence even more. His police captain has forced him to take the time off, but Law doesn’t have to like it. Then he comes home a few days before Christmas, not switching on any lights, to find an intruder in his kitchen – only their dog is happily accepting the man’s scritches. The shock makes Law weak in his knees, but he recovers fast and focuses on his feelings of utter relief to have Steven home, the need to make love to him, and the necessity to reestablish his role as Master.
Steven is exhausted and wants nothing more than to be home and spend time with his husband. The role of sub is a little more difficult to find his way back into – after all, in the military he was the one to give the orders. Nothing a good spanking and some seriously hot scenes won’t fix!
If you like your Christmas stories on the kinky side, if two men who know each other well but have to relearn the physical side of their relationship sound interesting, and if you’re looking for a fun read that is as hot as it is loving, then you will probably like this novella as much as I do.

This time it’s a cousin of one of those subs who becomes the focus of the story – and what a fun tale this turned out to be. The Dom who notices him is wonderful as well (I loved his sense of humor), and the rationale with which he manages to convince Brad to give things a try was hilarious. Don’t get me wrong, it was great and worked really well for these two, but I thought it was not just highly appropriate but really funny. Each BDSM couple is different and makes their own rules, depending on what works for them, and Brad and Dill certainly prove that.
Brad is an “eternal student”. He loves to learn new things and has been trying his hand at a lot of different subjects. He is in his midtwenties now and can’t seem to settle down on any one subject. To him, everything is interesting. There is only one problem: he has a crippling mountain of student loans, and with no job and no income has been forced to “couch surf”. He ends up with his cousin in the “house of many subs” only to be tempted away by a studly Dom who offers him a job. With Brad not being into “this BDSM stuff” at all, he isn’t sure what to expect – and the world of sensations that Dill offers totally overwhelms him. In the best way possible.
Dill is an experienced Dom who has never found the sub he wants as his own. He writes articles for magazines, and pretty quickly figures out that Brad is not only a BDSM virgin, but also needs a pretty strong rationale to come live with him. He makes no secret of wanting to teach Brad about BDSM and what it really feels like, but Dill knows Brad needs more of an incentive than that to give it a go. The result is Brad being hired to do all kinds of research (which fits the curious guy to a T), and Master Dill giving him such tasks as writing a paper about nipple play. I laughed out loud several times as they explored the beginnings of different types of kinky activities.
If you like your BDSM with lots of laughter and some pretty funny discussions, if an experienced Master showing a totally new and very curious sub “the ropes” (pun intended) is your thing, and if you’re looking for a read that is as hot and sexy as it is touching and cute, then you will probably like this novella. Ideal for “BDSM beginners” who want to explore some of the concepts without some of the angst present in some stories.

Oh, I love the “house of many subs” where boys who have not yet found their Masters find a safe home.

The main reason this one had me worried and tense is that things are not out in the open, and mostly not consensual. The situation is pretty dire in a city where all BDSM club activity has gone underground, and is controlled by a corrupt chief of police and the cops who work with him. What chance does anyone stand - be they a desperate sub or a Dom looking for more than a willing body – against those kinds of odds? That is the focus of this story. Combined with interesting characters, a tense situation, and some very hot BDSM activity, I found myself glued to the pages.
Wil is a dedicated Dom, but he is looking for more than a man to play with. He wants a real connection, and when he finally finds it with Aiden, it turns out that fate is against them. Or rather, the corrupt police chief who has other plans is putting obstacles in their way. That does not stop Wil. He is determined to find Aiden again and set him free – well, free enough to agree to submit to Wil.
Aiden is desperate. He has no home, and when he is driven to the streets to make a living, he is arrested and given a “choice”. Go to prison, which he knows he wouldn’t survive, or do whatever the police chief tells him to do. The one time Aiden manages to submit to a man who is actually kind to him turns out to be a fluke, and Aiden’s life as a brutally abused slave begins. His desperation is so deep that he finds it difficult to trust Wil even after the man comes to his rescue – until he learns that Wil’s Rules are quite different from the ones he was taught while a captive.
If you like darker stories with hints of nonconsensual BDSM, if you want to find out more about an abused man who learns to hope, and the determined Dom who sets him free, and if you’re looking for an emotional, intense, and suspenseful read with some very hot BDSM and other activity, then you will probably like this short story.

The focus is divided equally between Adam and Matt, the owners of the B&B, and Parker and Gaston, their two guests for a week. While I remembered Adam and Matt and felt as if I were visiting friends, Parker and Gaston are new characters. Both couples are very much in love, and while I got to see Parker and Gaston battling their "issue", I also had the opportunity to get to know Adam and Matt a little better.
Adam and Matt love living their dream of running a B&B that offers a safe place for other D/s couples, as well as advice, support, and teaching for those who need it. They work together as equals when developing their plan of action, and having both the sub's and the Dom's point of view is clearly a valuable asset. Of course, when they demonstrate some of the techniques neither of them is unaffected and both get a ton of pleasure out of trying the things new to them. Adam ends up going through some of the same deprivation (mostly orgasm denial) as Parker, and it enables him to morally support Parker where needed.
And boy, does Parker need it! His old insecurities and his fear of "not being enough" for his Master are much closer to the surface than he wants to admit, and than Gaston ever realized. Even after six years together, Parker is afraid he'll be seen as worthless if he cannot do what Gaston wants to achieve. Even though Gaston does his best to reassure him, Parker struggles. Gaston for his part desperately wants Parker to come on his command; for him it is an indication of how much he is in control. He is equally willing to give up on the idea if the week long training doesn’t help. But one thing is certain: they will both deepen their relationship and trust while following the "program".
If you like reading about established couples who want to learn something new, if you're into men experimenting with orgasm denial via all kinds of interesting toys and contraptions, and if you're looking for a kinky D/s story with lots of love, then you will probably like this novella. I certainly did and look forward to the next one in this fun series.

I suspect that readers who enjoyed the 'Spy vs. Spook' and/or the 'Mann of My Dreams' series might like this better, since the four main characters are secondaries in those books. As a new reader I just could not connect to any of them. A lot of the story refered back to events from those series as well, so it isn't as though the plot itself is independent and can stand on its own.
While most of the focus is on Max and Smitty, Charles (who is Max's ex and a real *sshole) has a major appearance and ends up with a very kinky female doctor - not something I expected based on the description. The story is only marginally connected to Christmas, and I have to admit that I was a little disappointed about that too.

It started in ‘Blended Family (Briar Rose 3)’, and I do suggest you read that book first. You’ll miss many of the details of their backgrounds if you don’t, and while ‘Combine’ makes sense on its own, I don’t think my enjoyment would have been the same had I not met Peter and Devon and Max and Swan before. The four men have been in 24/7 relationships for a while, as couples, but subs Peter and Max are also old friends who have been intimate. They are the ones asking for more, still missing what they once had but couldn’t maintain on their own. During their one-week stay at the Briar Rose, they laid the groundwork for a foursome, tried out a few things, and agreed to give it a go. I was very excited to find out if it works and how they deal with any issues that will most definitely arise.
Some aspects are relatively easy to deal with since the four men are friends, know and respect what each of them likes (such as being morning persons or night owls), and mostly love each other already. But there are some interesting questions to deal with as well. Peter needs fewer rules than Max to be happy, so how is Swan going to deal with handling Peter and Devon with dealing with Max? The other is the question of Devon and Swan’s relationship – can it grow beyond friendship and how will they handle two Doms deciding their “bedroom dynamics”? Peter and Max already love each other, so that part is easy, but they need to be comfortable with how each of their Masters deals with them as well. Not to mention the unexpected attack on Peter and Max when they walk home – the homophobic bullies don’t do much physical damage, but the psychological effect, especially on Max, are devastating. It takes both Masters and Peter to help Max through the crisis and, like the loving family the four men have become, they are all there for him once he is ready.
As you would guess, the dynamics with four partners meshing their lives are complicated. But they are also fun, and since these guys tend to work things out when undressed and in various hot scenes together, their journey is not just psychologically fascinating, but also highly erotically charged. I think it’s worth reading for more than one reason.
If you like watching the formation of special family situations, if you're into foursomes experimenting with all kinds of different BDSM play situations, and if you're looking for a kinky D/s story with lots of love, teasing, and interesting discussions about how things are working (or not) and should work in the future, then you will probably like this novel.

When one partner suppresses part of the personality of the other because he doesn’t like it or because it makes him uncomfortable, it can only end in When one partner suppresses part of the personality of the other because he doesn’t like it or because it makes him uncomfortable, it can only end in disaster. This is the situation Lawrence faces; he loves dressing in drag and becoming Lark, a persona every inch a seductive lady. But George doesn’t “approve”, and Lark gives her up for their partnership’s sake. Now that they are separated and no longer lovers, but still linked to the event planning business they started together, Lawrence thinks it is safe to let Lark come to the surface again. George, however, is too controlling to be happy and the revenge he plans is awful. In a story full of tension, emotional pain for Lawrence/Lark, and a situation that could end in total catastrophe, Lawrence has to learn to trust again, or he’ll never be happy.
Lawrence is a wonderful guy, but he was too trusting when he got together with George. He also suppressed Lark, his beautiful and alluring drag persona, and that was a big mistake. When Lark comes to life again at a party George also attends, George swears revenge and tricks Lawrence into signing a contract for another big event that will net them a lot of money. But there is one problem: Lawrence will end up on the block at a slave auction. And while Lawrence is a sub, being a slave is something entirely different, even if it is only for “play”. Lawrence is scared of giving up control – and who can blame him with George having abused the privilege of being the Dom? Lawrence’s fear of what will happen was palpable, and I was glued to the pages to find out if he’d make it.
Oliver is a man Lark met at the disastrous party, and he loves both Lark and Lawrence. When he gets an invite to a slave auction that he would normally ignore, he has the feeling he needs to be there. The influential (and very corrupt) police chief from book one is running the show, and Oliver wants to keep an eye on him. Oliver is shocked when he sees Lawrence on the block, but decides to win the bid so he can punish him for being so stupid. A few machinations later Oliver has his hands much fuller than he thought, and both he and Lawrence have a few things to learn together.
If you like stories that skirt the edge of cruel BDSM and are full of fear and danger, if two men who are total strangers but need to learn how to trust each other sound interesting, and if you’re looking for a read that is as suspenseful as it is surprisingly sweet and very hot, then you might enjoy this short story.

Gage is good at reading Davey’s reactions, and I think that is the only reason his plan works. He is determined to let Davey experience the power of bondage, and he is willing to take his time. Trust is always at the center of a relationship where one partner gives up control over part of his life, but it is never more needed than in an already scary situation.
Davey needs and wants to be taken out of his head so he can forget his sometimes stressful job. He trusts Gage with his life, but the idea of being bound is way beyond his comfort zone. It isn’t because he fears being unable to move; Gage lying on top of him is something Davey enjoys. It is the ropes themselves that make him shudder. So when Gage approaches him with a plan of binding him, Davey is not exactly enthusiastic at first. But he trusts Gage enough to give it a try, and when he finds out how hot it is to be restrained by Gage, the man he loves, Davey gets with the program really quickly and things heat up considerably.
Gage is a great Master. He understands his sub, knows Davey’s reactions well, and is willing to push him just enough so he gets a chance to experience something new that is exactly what he needs. His thoughtful approach to the whole situation and the way he plans the scenes were fascinating to watch, and the outcome isn’t just very hot, it is emotionally rewarding. Gage is ready and willing to stop at any point and thinks any progress, even Davey just touching the ropes would be progress. But the first scene goes so much better than expected that Gage really gets into it as well. The need to be bound maybe Davey’s, but as Gage discovers, the need to bind Davey is very satisfying for him as well.
If you like men who are deeply in love and need every ounce of trust they have between them to explore new territory in the BDSM arena, if you enjoy a bit of hesitation and fear with your kink before the heat explodes across the pages, and if you're looking for a sweet read with lots of experimentation, heat, and love, then you will probably like this short story.

Lance’s friends take a fairly big risk when they recommend him taking a “part time” sub to train, knowing that Lance has lost his mate and that, being a lion shifter who mates for life, he is not likely to be able to have another relationship. But Jax needs his help – with PTSD and other issues to deal with, he needs to forget, and submitting is the only way he knows how to do that.
Jax and Lance connect from the beginning, but neither is ready to admit what is going on. Well, Jax gets there fairly quickly but he doesn’t believe he has anything to offer. Lance’s lion knows what he wants, but Lance the man has trouble moving on. One misunderstanding leads to the next, and even though they are hot together in the playroom – not to mention the bedroom! – Jax and Lance each have some problems to overcome, miscommunication to surmount, and hope to discover and believe in before any true healing can begin.
If you like watching men dealing with loss and pain on their way to happiness, if a lion shifter and an ex-soldier sound like a good match to you, and if you’re looking for a short, hot read, then you might like this short story.

Merged review:
Two broken men together can go one of two ways: either they will heal each other or they will end up more broken than ever before.
