You get a brief introduction to Matej and his thoughts at the beginning of the story.A beautiful, enigmatic student who seems to have set his sights on a certain Lecturer,Dr Simon Mraz.
Fast forward a few years and the story continues from Simon's pov and for about half the book Matej remains someone only in Simon's thoughts.
Simon is struggling with,
-the aftermath of Matej,
And ,struggling,
-to understand what went wrong,
-and to move on with his life.
He has friends and a life he's reasonably content with but you get the impression his life is empty, almost like he's drifting along just going through the motions-something appears to be missing.
How will he feel/react when a ghost from the past enters his life again?
I'm being deliberately vague here,I really don't want to rehash the story.I firmly believe you should go into this one relatively blind BUT what I will say is that I was captivated as the story unfolded as you learn more about Matej and his actions.
I loved the references to Arthur Rimbaud and Paul Verlaine ,two 19th century poets.I hadn't heard of them and was quite fascinated by their story-was it a comparison to Simon and Matej's story? Possibly and very cleverly incorporated into the story.
Conclusion:
Beautiful, evocative writing, Two flawed MC's who get a HFN which I could totally envisage turning into a HEA, A European setting, which I've come to absolutely love in Roe Horvat's books, A sensuality between the two men that was both believable and beautiful.

This book is special,I mean really special. I loved everything about it and just didn't want it to end. This Author's writing is stunning. Her words, her story telling, her characters-to say I was blown away is an understatement.
The story follows the lives of three characters,Alex,Val, and Jav.Introduced when they are young and spanning over three decades it's a truly amazing story of how their lives cross paths.
-it's about family( not always pretty ),
-it's about friendship,
-it's about love,loss,
-such an emotional journey,as they fall, pick themselves up again and make mistakes that have a devastating effect on their lives at times,
-the Historical elements were very well told and the way one particular event is incorporated into the story was beautifully written but so sad that it stole my breath away.
To anyone that reads mainly MM romance I urge you to give this one a chance, you won't be disappointed and there is a MM element that was so powerfully portrayed-the emotions were raw but so real.
As I neared the end I had no idea how things would play out but it turned out to be just right for the story. And it's Jav's story next....that man had me swooning throughout the whole book!
This is,quite simply,a stunning piece of writing that will stay with me for a long time.
5 Stars! This is going straight on my favourite shelf.

I loved everything about this book,
The writing is so compelling,I couldn't put it down,
The characters, main and secondary completely worked for me,
The feeling of a large family where you wouldn't expect them to fit,but they just did.

I haven't read any of the previous books in this series and while I did find it a bit confusing in the beginning with a lot of characters being introduced, once I worked out who was who,it definitely didn't spoil my enjoyment of this book. The Author did a good job of introducing the characters, especially Lincoln and his story/relationship with Casey.
Casey is around 30 and is in a dating slump.I would say he doesn't really identify being gay/straight or bi....he simply goes with who he's attracted to,regardless of gender. His main priority is his daughter,Haley.... I absolutely loved their relationship.
He's known Ellis for 6 years.Ellis is Lincoln's cousin and his marriage(to a woman) is just about dead and buried. This might be a contentious issue for some people but, personally,I didn't consider it cheating. His wife has made it clear she wants to date other men.
After drinking too much one night Casey decides to crash on Lincoln's yacht...only to wake up in the middle of the ocean.Ellis had a plan to have some alone time, kind of soul searching, what he definitely didn't expect was Casey.....
What follows I found quite beautiful... I could totally believe the connection Casey and Ellis had. It's not mentioned if Ellis has been attracted to men before and I don't think it's of any importance...it's not about gender or even him being conflicted about being Gay ( which is so often the focus in some books ).My point here is that he's attracted to someone who happens to be a man.
I don't often reread books but this is one I definitely will.
Highly Recommended.
I received an Arc of Uncomplicated Choices in exchange for an honest review....more

I loved everything about this book. The writing, the characters, the sex,the feelings.I really didn't want it to end.I've read a few really good books in the last few weeks and this is way up there with them....it may even be top of the pile!I don't know how she's done it but Karen Stivali has created passion, chemistry and feelings that just felt so real.
Bryan is a photography student in his final year, juggling his school work and also playing in a band. For reasons that are explained he's given up sex for a year but his celibacy is about to be severely tested when he meets Oliver.
Oliver was engaged to his high school best friend.A convenient arrangement for both of them until she finds someone she doesn't just love but has fallen in love with.(Don't worry,no cheating and Oliver is more than happy she's found true love ). Oliver re evaluates his life,he comes out to his family, leaves his home town and moves to New York, determined to embrace his sexuality.
The intensity between them is evident from the start but it's so much more than insta lust, believe me.They become friends first with Bryan introducing Oliver to the NY gay scene.Bryan has problems of his own, though and it's not just that he's been hurt in love before. The last thing he's really looking for is any kind of relationship.
I can't explain how perfect these men are together and it's not just sexually.Even when they are just hanging out together doing every day things the connection between them feels so strong.
The sex
This is hot,I mean really hot, with some of the best sex scenes I've read.I really can't explain but I think it's down to the writing.Even when they're filthy dirty it's beautiful, you can feel the passion and intensity coming off the pages.
Highly recommended.....read it,I'm sure you'll not be disappointed!!
I loved the first book in this series but I thought this was even be5+ Stars.....So Good!!!!

I loved the first book in this series but I thought this was even better. I really didn't like Dominic in book one but I did a massive u turn here because I absolutely LOVED him here.
Dominic has just left the Military. He's kind of drifting through life, doesn't really know where he fits in.Add into the mix his highly volatile family,at the age of 27 he's a bit jaded with life. He's bi sexual but has become more and more interested in men so goes on Grindr where he meets Luke.
Luke is 39,also bi sexual.Forced out of the Military at a young age,he's finally getting his life together. He's divorced with teenage twins and his barriers are firmly in place. He likes one time hook ups with men but never goes back for more until Dominic pushes down his defences.
There's drama as their two families cross paths. This was an integral part of their relationship and extremely well written.
I'm not sure which Author was responsible for the sex scenes but they are just delicious. It's raw, dirty, desperate and very passionate.
And how refreshing to have a M/M book that's not Gfy(not that I'm not into that) , but this was all the more believable because they were both bi.
I cannot recommend this book/series highly enough for M/M fans.

Every once in a while a book comes along that you weren't expecting and just blows you away. I'd read friends reviews for this and got the sample but the only thing putting me of was that it's quite long and the lack of steam. Well,I started reading it and right from the first page it sucked me in and I was completely captivated by Ox.
He's 12 when the book opens,a bit of a loner with no self worth. When he's 16 he notices the house down the lane, which has been empty for a while,is now occupied by a family... The Bennett's. One day he meets the youngest,10 year old Joe.A little blonde tornado who rocks into his world and won't let go.Little does Ox know that this meeting will change his life forever....
I've read a few shifter books but this is in a different league. I loved the characters. I loved the family and feeling of belonging. There's love, loss, deep connections and bonds that are unbreakable.
It's the first book I've read by this Author and to say I was impressed is an understatement....the writing is simply stunning.
"Hi baby,"he said under his breath. He leaned in and kissed me on the lips, right in front of God and everyone.

Well, this one surprised me in a good way.I would probably never have read it if I hadn't read some friends reviews.
Josh and Caleb are 19 and 20 respectively and have lived in a polygamist compound for years. They have been best friends for years but recently Josh has been lusting after Caleb in a big way. When Caleb realizes Josh is going to be cast aside he arranges to meet him and leaves the compound.
They set off to find Maggie who had escaped the compound years ago.Along the way they meet Washington ( a fantastic character ), who helps them. They, tentivaly start to share their feelings for each other. Although they are both virgins ( YES !! ), things heat up between them very nicely. There's a bit of ( delicious ) awkward fumbling between them initially but when they take things to the bedroom....and other surfaces, the sex is HOT with some dirty talk. I just adored these two and how their story played out.
