I watched as the two books were separated into four under different titles. Now the four are combined back into two with a brand new book being released soon as the first in the series.
The series does need read in order to get the full benefit of each book. “Remembered” now contains a few updates which include and more fully explain events from “Bonded”.
I’ve loved “The Grimm Laws” since my first reading of it years ago and the additions tying it to “Bonded” are fantastic!

It was a bit dark in the beginning, but improved over time. I read this series many years ago when it was first published and before “Bonded” was even a thought. “Bonded” is a wonderful addition to “The Grimm Laws” and well worth the read.
Thank you Jennifer for allowing me to be an advanced reader!...more

This one contained more swearing and several sexual references. The first one had a few as well, but they are getting worse.
The same writing style continued, but this book was definitely not for children or young young adults. It wasn’t the light fun read as before and was filled with gruesome darkness. Parts were down right gross!
I’ll read the next one because I liked the first so well. Hopefully it will be better....more

I must say that I have to agree with the one star reviews, but the difference is that the things annoying to them made it enjoyable for me.
Yes, Imogen is flighty. Yes, it is a simple read. Yes, it is totally "over the top". Yes, it is absolutely ridiculous and unbelievable. Yes, it's very predictable. Yes, it is probably written for a young audience. But, yes, it's exactly what I needed. I'm looking forward to the second book.
My one complaint is the misuse of the Lord's name, which took it down a star. Thankfully though, that only occurred a handful of times, but is something that could have been totally left out.
The narration took some getting used to because she did speak quickly. But once I adjusted to that I loved it. (The Audible also came as a 10 book set and was more than a dollar, but worth it!)

After reading more of this series I cannot recommend it as a good read. Many of the sexual references had different meanings at one time and could have come across as more or less innocent, but Erin goes out of her way to make sure the reader knows they were meant sexually. If a person is looking for a good, clean series, this isn’t it in spite of a mostly delightful first book.
I did post reviews on a few more books in the series, then I started to wonder why I was reading them in the first place when there are so many other better, cleaner choices. None of the books following this first one were as good as this one and I finally gave up the hope that they might be....more

There is another one scheduled to come out in a few months, but it is more than three years since this one was pubished. I'm not sure I'll get it though since Spirits and Sourdough didn't leave any loose ends - except one, Steve. However, truthfully, Steve's hang-up over Katie shouldn't exist anymore, but even though she's now married to someone else, he still can't let go. I really dislike that!
The swearing (mostly the Lord's name) didn't go away once it was introduced, and is bothersome as well.
I've thought a lot about the darker aspects of these books. While dark magic is a real thing, and Katie fights it, I think the thing that bothers me the most is that even some of the darker aspects of magic are presented as good. The entire series pushed the boundaries....more

If I read it with that in mind the dark, while still bothersome, feels more like something that needs corrected and brought to justice rather than being simply dark.
The ending was a bit of a cliff hanger which would really bother me if I didn’t already have the next book.
Over all I’m enjoying this series, but I wouldn’t recommend it if dark magic is unsettling. ...more
