When Simon finds out, that his friend Jam has to go home to Avalon during their Christmas vacation, he is absolutely thrilled. That means that he has a wonderful opportunity to find the next pieces he needs to put back together one of the dangerous weapons that could destroy everything he knows.
It turns out, that the entire Animalgam society has a picture of Jam´s home that is not really the case. No days at the beach playing or just swimming and enjoying the sun. This time the setting is underwater. And with that, Simon faces some unexpected difficulties. Not only the rules are very strict, but Simon and his friends are under permanent observation. No sneaking around, no searching for unexpected treasures or other things.
The author shows all the problems and challenges Simon and his friends have to face and to struggle within a very sensitive way. The plot is diverse, full of action and unexpected twists and turns.
Simon is a boy with a big heart, who knows what is right and what is not right and how to get things done. Sure, his plans aren´t always good ones, but sitting at home or in his room and doing nothing while others do the dirty work, is not his thing. And that often means trouble.
What a great continuation of the other two books in this series. With some new figures and the main character who shows that he´s learned his lessons. It was great to watch how Simon´s development has made progress and how he is treating his friends and family. What he does to keep them safe....more

That man is holding his mother captive and forces her to find the pieces he needs to put a scepter together. But not to do any good with it, no. With the help of his new friends, Simon travels across the US to get where he suspects the next pieces and has literally to pass the test of the snakes.
This time, the author shows the reader the breathtaking beauty of the desert. What looks at first sight drab and dead is at second sight filled with life and a wide range of colors. The fact, that the author kept her easy to read and very simple writing style, is a wonderful addition for the story itself.
It becomes clearer page by page that Simon is, despite the fact that he is an Animalgam, still the same deep inside. He wants his family and friends to be safe and sound, takes care of his people and does nothing without passion and a strong will. He mourns the loss of his uncle and would do anything to free his mother, but he also is not willing to sacrifice another life to reach his goal.
The author shows in a very wonderful way, that the love of a family and friends is the best when you need support or a shoulder to lean on. And with the great instincts, Simon has, he always knows by instinct when he is right or in trouble. Life is not easy for after his uncle´s unexpected death. Yes, his other uncle Malcolm does everything to make Simon feel at home, but with Darryl gone, Simon feels that he´s lost his family. The conflicts he is facing are brought to the reader in a very sensitive and great way.
I enjoyed this book very much. It was an overnight read for me and brought back some memories I have. If you are already a Simon Thorn fan, this novel is definitely for you. For all the others I can only say: read! ...more

Together with Mr. White, his dog, he lives in the forest from what nature provides. An impulsive idea, to go and take a closer look at a castle he would like to get to know better, brings him into serious trouble. The same night he is there, the owner gets killed and in an instant Oxen is the main suspect.
Jens Henrik Jensen writes to the point. His descriptions are without any unnecessary words. With a few words, you get to know the landscape, the setting of a scene or how a figure looks like. Anything is brought to the reader in a quiet tone and with clarity (don´t worry, you will have to guess until the very end what game the big ones are playing with Oxen) that is great to read.
If you can make it over the first few chapters.
The psychological finesse in this thriller is fantastic. Bit by bit the author reveals how bad Oxen is traumatized, how the flashbacks torture him, and how hard it is to function in a world that does not accept the wounded and traumatized.
From the very beginning, I was absolutely thrilled how Oxen is dealing with his situation. He knows what happens and how to avoid it. His scars are not visible but the way how he handles his nightmares, how he walks through life and how he thinks about everything – remarkable. Yes, you could judge him for living in the forest, but why? I saw it as a try to heal in a way he feels could be the right one for him. If his plan works, is another story.
The author gives you with Oxen a great insight into a man who has seen evil and who was part of the worst thing mankind can do to itself. And still, that man feels obligated to the truth and seeks justice not only for himself but for others as well.
This novel becomes after the first few chapters a fast-paced read where a brilliant psychological finesse comes to light and you - as the reader - can´t put it down. Good, the cover didn´t convince me at first, but after sneaking around it for quite some time I wanted to give it a try. And it turned out to be a fantastic read. Highly recommended....more

In this novel, it is shown very sensitiveInkvotary A novel that plays in a setting of a Stockholm where women are not as self-destined as we are today. In this novel, it is shown very sensitively and though I couldn´t get rid of the feeling that I´ve read it before. I know I haven´t, but the plot was very familiar to me.
Beatrice is a young redhead who knows exactly what she wants and what she doesn´t. A man who is brutal isn´t on her list. But she´s no choice. More than anything in the world, she wants her cousin to be happy, so she does what must be done. Though she still hopes that her great love Seth will give her a sign that there is hope for them. But her cousin is reckless and wants revenge for his own fate.
This novel has a speedy writing-style. You know from the very beginning, that you are in a time where women have almost no rights and where men tell them, what to do when to do it and how to do it. The main figure stands out of all this because she is kind of untamed and that is exactly why she has to obey her uncle´s rules. The conflict between her and that man is a story that plays in the background and is shown in some very cold scenes. The one, where she tells him finally after years of suffering what he can do with his life, was one of the scenes that stood out.
Though I liked reading this novel, I noticed, that the author has obviously a liking for the same setting when it comes to the evil part in a family. This evil person like in her novel All In raped a young girl together with another boy from a rich family and had to take all the blame for it and got expelled from school. Only that this time it isn´t the brother, who´s the bad guy.
The author brings all kinds of different characters together in this novel. There is the beloved daughter who is very fragile, a breathtaking beauty and in some ways very naïve. The cousin who comes into the family and is hated by her uncle because she grew up in a way he hates more than anything in the world. And an aunt who is kind of invisible. A shadow, nothing less, nothing more.
A self-made man isn´t exactly what a family wants for their daughters when she needs to be accepted in the circle of the rich high society. So, when Beatrice falls in love with Seth, and it becomes clear to everyone around, that he´s in love with her too, fate strikes hard. The conflict, Beatrice is brought in to by her uncle, shows the author in a wonderful way though sometimes I thought the scenes were a bit long stretched.
This novel wasn´t as fast-paced and thrilling as her modern novels, but the romance factor is high and the drama that unfolds right before the reader´s eye was very entertaining. Though I wasn´t as hooked as I was while reading All In. But if you like a setting in 1880 and women who fight men´s and society´s rules in their own way, then this could be for you. ...more

Inkvotary No doubt, this novel has its very own way to throw its reader into a WTF-emotion. But the novel itself wasn´t as fun or entertaining to read as I had expected. Well, maybe I´ve set my expectations way too high.
Hartley is the first girl that seems to be able to resist Easton´s charm and sex appeal. For her, that Royal means nothing but trouble. And she´s right. Whatever Easton tries to make up to her, he gets her in even more trouble and pain. So why the heck is she still talking to him and trying to understand his world of raw emotions, too much alcohol and no borders at all?
While reading Fallen Heir, I couldn´t help myself but feel that this is very similar to the first book of this series. Only that this time the girl comes from a rich and powerful family and has to cope with a reckless and very conservative father.
In Hartley´s life is nothing golden or easy. Her father doesn´t allow any member of his family to be flawed. But there is one, and with her sister, he tries to emotional hold her at ransom. Only that Hartley isn´t handling the situation the way she´s supposed to. And that drives her father wild.
The conflict Hartley is in, was a bit too much for my taste. Sure, such conflicts within families do exist, that´s nothing new. But I hardly believe that a family is really treating its children the way Hartley´s family does it in this book.
Despite that, the style, the words, the scenes and the fucked-up life Easton is living, was nice to read. The author duo hasn´t changed a bit when it comes to their writing-style. How they bring some bad habits to light or show the reader that even the rich and famous have their problems and evil things to deal with.
I wasn´t amused to see the whole extent of Easton´s alcohol abuse. And that is probably the real reason why I am not as happy with this novel as I was with the other books. It was nice and to some point very entertaining to read about his crash´s and how he tried to make up for all the bullshit he did while being drunk as a skunk. But what I disliked was the way how that was displayed by the author duo.
And Ella! Holy Christ. She´s a real pain in the ass. Treating Easton as if she´s his disapproving mother and completely out of her place. Don´t get me wrong. I like her very much and loved how she was acting in the other three novels. But in this one? Hell, no! It became very soon very annoying. Sorry guys, but I am not fond of her in this part.
And THAT CLIFFHANGER! How can you do this to me?! I finished this book sometime during the night and after that sleep wasn´t an option. BECAUSE my head was spinning about what had happened and if there would be another dead figure in this series. Holy heck, that wasn´t funny at all.

This was the first time that I´ve read a book by the author. And while writing my review I am struggling to find the right words about my feelings for this thriller.
Jane has lost her daughter, the great job she had and now wants and needs a new start. But with her tight budget, not the easiest thing to achieve. When she sees the house at Folgate Street 1 she is fascinated. Not only by the house itself but the owner as well. A man who lives as disciplined as Jane never could be but lets her wish to get what she´s craving.
I have mixed feelings about this thriller. The end didn´t match with the rest of this book – at least not in my eyes. There were twists and turns towards the end that I thought what in the world? The author uses the characteristic terms narcissistic and anancastic personality to show a very controlled picture of her figures. But, to be honest, I couldn´t connect with it. Not with the various characters that were playing a role here and not with the plot itself. So, no, I am not sharing the excitement every other reader has about this thriller.
It is, as always, the figure that lives a very invisible life, that is the bad guy. And Jane finds out who is really responsible for Emma´s death. Towards the end I was shaking my head in disbelief when I read what Jane´s plan had been all along and when Edward suggests his plan to her about the house, I was like WTF?
The author describes her figures with a few words, shows the reader that all of them have gone through a lot. And she makes it quite clear that not everything is what it seems to be at first sight. Only that you don´t realize it until the last third of this thriller.
I am sorry to have to say that, but I am not sharing the excitement everyone else feels for this thriller. Yes, the psychological finesse is wonderful and some things were not visible until the end for me. But I missed the haunting feeling, the impact that a (at least what I call a great thriller) usually has on me. So, this one is only average for me. Maybe you´ll like it more, who knows.

I don´t know how she does it, but Colleen Hoover gave proof again that she can catch you with romance and raw emotions the same way as other authors with their thrillers. Since I have finished this, I haven´t read any other book. I had some in my hands, yes, but I didn´t start reading – the impact this novel had on me has still captured me.
Fallon is what the world calls a “natural beauty”. A girl who is blessed with a gift. The gift of being a beautiful girl who has a heart. In Hollywood a rare thing. But since the terrible fire everything has changed. Her father has turned himself into an ignorant asshole and her mother is the only constant positive and encouraging thing that has remained in her life. And then there is Ben. The stranger who comes to her rescue when her father ones more proves that he is as blind and ignorant as selfish and heartless.
The style is soft, easy to read and yet has such an emotional and stirring impact – holy Christ! How does Colleen do it? I am still not able to tell ya.
The story is haunting, sensitive, shows emotions of all different kinds and is as beautiful as you could wish for. Sure, there are scenes in it that you rather wouldn´t have to read, but they belong in this novel and fit perfectly in. And they give you clues that something isn´t the way it seems at first sight. That there is something to come that will turn everything upside down and back again.
While reading, I had to literally remind myself to breath again, because I very often held my breath - the plot was so thrilling, fascinating and breathtaking. And towards the end it is even getting more romantic and thrilling despite all the drama that happens at the same time.
Fallon is a wonderful teenage girl. She has her heart on the right place, is sensitive to others and knows how to deal with her father when he thinks that he can screw around with her. Not gonna happen. Nope, Sir.
But with Ben her heart is going on a rollercoaster. Fallon is fighting the feelings she is having from the very first second, she meets Ben. And Ben does everything to convince her that they can have both, their love and a life. If only Fallon stops searching for answers or jumping to the wrong conclusions …
Holy mother of god, this was amazing! If you´re no Colleen Hoover fan yet, this is the perfect way to start. I am still trying to catch my breath, still trying to calm down and still in an emotional turmoil. And that´s saying something. Grab some tissues – you will need them! ...more
This is my first book written by the author. I got intrigued by its cover and thought why not give this a try.
Lilah is in turmoil. The man she wants is sick and needs help. Her help. But how can she help him if she isn´t allowed to go into the morning forest? And who killed that strange woman she found close to the border? When one of the elder village people starts to torture her with his hate and rage he obviously has towards her, Lilah starts packing her belongings and to change the path of her life. Following her instincts, she discovers a world she never knew existed and that is so much more than just a forest.
If you love a novel with a very poetic language, you might like this very much. And if you also like to read a very long run-on sentence that dominate this novel, then this might be the perfect read for you.
Well, for me, it wasn´t. Over the first few pages it was kind of ok to read them, but the author keeps continuing with that style and after a while I was exhausted. Everything, even short scenes, were stretched that way, everything was dealt with in a very long and tiring way. From my perspective a sad thing, because the idea of having a tree as your soulmate, from living in unison with nature and to share the needs and sorrows of nature first hand, seemed very promising and beautiful in one.
Additional to that, the story contains many repetitions. As if the author doesn´t trust her readers ability to understand what she is telling on every page this book has. I got it already in the first chapter, that the morning forest was a prohibited area. And that Lilah had to fight her need to go in and to follow her inner voice every day. There was absolutely no need to tell me that on almost every page this novel has.
It was fascinating to watch how Lilah changed from the girl that was following every word her uncle said to the young woman which did what her instincts were telling her. You can literally feel how she struggles, her uncertainty and that she can´t tell the others about that voice in her head whenever she comes close to the morning forest. And then there are her growing feelings for Dorean. The man who keeps his distance but obviously wants more from her than only friendship.
All in all this book is a bit above average. I would have liked it to be a pleasure read for me, but it wasn´t. I love it, when an author knows how to use words, when some poetry is in the pages and the characters are well built and you can see some development throughout the plot. And Lilah proofs that this is, what makes great characters so fascinating for us readers.
But that alone won´t make a reader start to swoon over a novel. Sad, but this book wasn´t for me. If you´re a fan of a very long sentence, a very bloomy style and a plot that isn´t really visible, this is definitely a novel you should read. If the above said isn´t your thing – don´t touch it....more

I am flashed! Arsinoe is sick and tired of figthing. Why has everything to go on as tradition wants it? And why on earth is Katharine like this all the sudden? Where has the once kind and sweet to look at girl gone? With the discovering of her real power and the knowledge that she knows nothing about it, Arsinoe is determined to figure out a way to keep herself and her sisters alive and well. But that´s easier said than done. Especially when one of them is willing to sacrifice everything and everyone, and a person intrigues as if there´s no tomorrow.
The tone is soft and the writing-style easy to read with a strength and power in it – wow! I am not exactly sure how Kendare Blake does it, but there isn´t one single sentence or page where you get bored. I was eagerly reading page by page and very often absolutely stunned when something unexpected happened or the author brought some twists and turns into her plot that made you jump because she turned things in a way you never thought that would happen.
And that one scene, when Katharine has to learn that she´s gone too far. When her secret comes to light, and everything she holds dear is anything but safe and sound. That scene gave me goosebumps. I mean, to know everything about poison is one thing, but to live that truth, to accept it and to plan a future with that knowledge seem to be different things.
Three sisters who have to fight for the crown one of them is supposed to wear. Three sisters who do everything to survive and to be in advance of the other two. But the conflict appears very soon to the reader and is shown by the author in a very emotional and yet pragmatic way.
Holy moly, that was one heck of a fantastic fantasy novel. And THAT END! Mrs. Blake seriously?! At first I was shocked, then even more shocked. Until I found out that there will be another book and hopefully in it some answers to all my questions. If you haven´t read Three Dark Crowns or this one, DO IT ASAP!...more

But be warned. If you are a cat lover, this one might be not of your taste.
Vi Keeland writes in a soft but blunt tone, her style is open and shows you all kind of emotions. There isn´t one page where it gets boring or is close to it. Holy moly I was close to tears when I found out why Chase was acting the way he does during one scene and it was so sweet when he tried to make up for it afterward.
Reese and Chase have both gone through rough and very hard times. Both know what it means to be on the darker side of life. And both now only too well that some things you can´t deal with on your own.
But when Chase´s past comes back with an overwhelming power and he learns the bitter truth about something he´s done, his reaction is heartbreaking. Not only women obviously decide whether a man is worthy of them or not.

I do hope that the way how police works in England is only fictional in this thriller. Because otherwise I am not sure if that area of the English society is good. Erika´s boss Marsh is, literally spoken, an ass, doing almost everything he can to keep her from doing her job properly and the father of a dead young woman is not helpful either.
Robert Bryndza´s style is clear, to the point and he uses a direct and sometimes very blunt language. But always with style and on a high level. He pictures a society that isn´t like any other you might be familiar with. And he creates an atmosphere that keeps you on the edge of your seat. You never know what´s going to happen on the next page and while reading I caught myself many times biting my tongue – because of the fantastic thrill this story is giving you.
Nothing is as it seems. Everything has two faces, literally, and Erika Foster and her boss Marsh are no exception. The only difference between them is, that Erika isn´t hiding anything. Sure, she is pained by her past and has her own demons to fight, but she is also on a point where she says that she´s lost already everything that´s dear to her. So why bother and pretend something else?
Sure, she isn´t doing things the way they are usually done. But the way she brings proof and facts to light that aren´t always comfortable to others. She always follows her instincts. Trusts only the plain facts and it is very hard if not impossible to convince her to work in a different way.
This was a very impressive and fascinating thriller. Lots of unexpected twists and turns and written in a soft but very direct tone. At the end I was in an awkward mood and kind of surprised that, despite the fact, that the author had used the normal pattern a thriller and crime novel usually follow, I hadn´t seen it coming until the very end....more

Since many years I am a huge fan of the author. And her Rizzoli & Isles series is one of the most loved series I have in my shelves. I can´t remember a book in this series, that had ended the way this one does. It seems as if the way how Tess Gerritsen solved this case, was the only way, that made sense, though I don´t agree with everything. And I can only imagine how it must feel for Jane…
As always, Tess Gerritsen presents a psychological finesse and scenes where you as a reader are in the situation “do I hold my breath now or do I rather stop and continue later?” Oh yes, some scenes are so gripping and in combination with Janes sarcasm and her way to see things and the world in general, this thriller is haunting and thrilling from the very start to the bitter end.
Maura and Jane aren´t always on the same page here. When it comes to solve this mysterious case, yes, but not when it comes to the fact who the evil person is. Maura often asks Jane to rethink her work, to see things from another perspective and not to believe everything she sees right at first sight. But Janes motherly feelings are not that easy to handle let alone set aside. How the author shows that conflict and how she solves it is presented in a beautiful way and lets you feel that between those two women is a very strong friendship, and respect for each other.
While reading some scenes I couldn´t help but smile. Jane and her ironic language, the sarcastic tone she is using quite often – I like that very much. And those scenes, when she is at home with her parents, and nothing but the future of her brother seems important to her father. How Jane reacts to that, hilarious.
And the relationship, or better said the non-existing relationship between Maura and her biological mother. Holy moly those scenes were quite something. I could literally feel the evil that the woman who gave birth to Maura is spreading around.
A great written thriller, that might not be with a full rating, but nonetheless very entertaining. I didn´t see it coming until the very end and the solution the author gave, was not entirely mine. But you can´t always win. But to know as a reader the entire truth, that was kind of satisfying....more

So, the time for this challenge is over and I am now allowed to post my review.
This was my first book written by the author. And for sure not the last. Good, I might not be over the moon with this, but it was very entertaining and great for a cozy afternoon read.
This book was a wonderful Christmas read. But why on earth had the author to write every few pages about why Kara was still single and why Nate had a huge problem with Christmas? I don´t mind getting told details from the past a figure obviously had, but that often? As if the author doesn´t believe that her readers can remember.
Despite that, I really had a good time while reading Christmas coming to Main Street. The language is sensitive, sometimes very emotional and all the snow and Christmas decoration was quite nice. Well, good, I am not that much of a Christmas decorator, when it comes to my own four walls, but in this novel, it kind of fit. And with that competition coming up, the participating figures had quite something to do, to get everything ready in time.
And Olivia Miles knows how to bring the daily life of a small town a few weeks before Christmas alive. The only thing I missed was the snowflake-cookie-recipe. After reading so much about them in almost every chapter, I was expecting the recipe at the end of the book – nope, wasn´t there. Sad, but reality. At least in the German edition.
Oh my gosh. Molly! What a fretful girl. She is obviously used to get everything she wants, when she wants and the way she wants. But is she asking her elder sister once if she can help her? Nope. Instead she does everything to make things worse. She can eat lots of cookies, oh yes, as if there´s no tomorrow. But helping bake them or do something else for her elder sister? Not gonna happen. Grrr, not my girl, not at all.
Kara on the other hand is a woman who must learn some things the hard way. She can´t say no, to almost nobody and that gets her into a serious time-problem. And then the fact that she obviously has absolutely no clue about account stuff or pricing. She stands every day for hours in her bakery to create all the sweet things she is selling. Can´t say no to her mother but on the other hand her mother is not encouraging her with her shop or her passion for cookies.
If you are looking for an easy to read Christmas novel with wonderful created characters and a white setting then this is your book. ...more
It was a bit of a surprising, that the structure of this novel was totally different from the one, the first two books show.
Susannah is feeling that something needs to change. She isn´t happy with her current life and missing something. What if she´ rebelled against her father during her teenage years and done things differently? And why is she dreaming of her past boy-friend Jake? When she gets informed, that her mother isn´t able anymore to live alone, Susannah has to make decisions she doesn´t want to make, and her marriage is at stake.
Don´t get me wrong. Debbie Macomber has kept her soft and quiet writing-style. And she shows you the typical family life as you probably expect it from her. And I was kind of okay with that for most of the book. But on the other hand, she shows some characters that make you almost furious. A young twenty-year-old who behaves as if the world is only fun and nothing she does has consequences, or the wife who feels responsible for everything that went the wrong way. And then this end. The author turns everything into a cheesy novel and was digging very deep into the box where you find all sort of stereotypes.
I missed the charm and humor the author shows in all her other novels. Or at least, in some of them. As nice as this novel is to read, it is also very dull and doesn´t get over the level of being an average novel.
A mother in need of her daughter (Vivian), a twenty-old girl (oh yes, Chrissie is nothing but a fretful and unmatured girl who behaves more like a three-year-old) who still believes that life is only fun and butterflies, drugs, a judge and a woman (Susannah) who always acts as if she is responsible for everything humankind does wrong and who feels responsible for everyone.
I might sound bad when I say this, but why on earth is Susannah always acting as if she is responsible for everything that happens outside her family and world? Sure, she is a mother with two kids who aren´t the perfect ones. Especially not her daughter Chrissie. Never saw a twenty-year-old acting the way this girl is acting. Holy moly, somethings while reading I could have easily taken her aside and ask her what the hell she was thinking that she´s doing.
Chrissie demands answers to everything she is asking her mother, but doesn´t see a point to answer her mother´s questions herself. She wants to help, but the moment a man is showing his interest in her, she is gone.
From all the Debbie Macomber novels I´ve read, this one is one of her weakest works. Sure, if you are in for a book that drips from all the cheesiness and stereotypes, then this is absolutely your book. For me it was only average, though it had its moments.

Lydia is stunned when she hears from her fiancé that he breaks up with her only because his ex is coming back and wants a second chance. She is shocked, feels disappointed and has no other way then to tell him what his ex´ really wants. And with her sister Margaret things aren´t easy too. Something is weighing down on her sister, but unlike other siblings, they can´t talk with each other about it. A fact that makes Lydia very sad.
I couldn´t help but ask myself from time to time while reading this, why the hell is Margaret treating her sister the way she does? And why is there always the need of a woman who goes through the same emotions and experiences all over again throughout her entire life? That doesn´t make any sense to me.
Sure, the author writes with a wonderful sensitivity about very emotional things and places every word very carefully. And getting divorced or losing a parent is never easy. To deal with such a dramatic change isn´t a piece of cake. And it changes a life forever. And yes, Debbie Macomber has a beautiful way to let her figures go through some rough times without becoming to kitschy. But in A Good Yarn it was sometimes just too much. She repeated some things over and over again and showed some women who seemed to be unable to free themselves from the mistakes they´ve once made.
Brad does everything to make his son happy and give him the family he deserves. But when Lydia is telling him the truth about his ex-wife and why his ex is doing what she intents to do, he isn´t willing to trust Lydia on that. Or to believe her. Yes, Lydia reacts with what she can do and what not, and yes, she has every right to do so. After she survived two times cancer, she has a different way to see life and to do things. And there´s nothing wrong with that. Absolutely not.
It seems always to be the same pattern the author is using to put her story and characters on display. Yes, the problems they´re all having are nothing to take lightly, but for me, A Good Yarn was a bit too much of everything....more

The Bird and The Sword is a novel that will polarize its readers. And with `polarizing its readers´ I mean that some of us will be swooning over the moon over this story while others will probably ask what is so special about this novel? Keep reading and you´ll find out how I think about it.
Well, there´s for sure no simple answer to that. No doubt, this novel has a very varied plot and characters who know how to catch the readers eye.
And the writing-style *sigh* Pure melody.
And still I am wondering how a beautiful story, told in a very unique voice could be so dull at the same time. Over pages I was enjoying the novel about Lark and Tiras and couldn´t get enough of the beautiful language the author used while describing emotions, scenery and figures. Then there were pages where everything seemed incredible mat and not haunting and thrilling at all. During those parts of the book it seemed as if Amy Harmon was searching for the right words to tell her story but couldn´t find ´em.
Over most parts of this novel, the author has built an amazing setting, shows how powerful words are - even the unspoken ones - and yet this book isn´t what I call a page-turner. At least not entirely. While reading I had my moments, loved some of the things that were happening and because of the diversified story I was never in the situation to put it aside and stop reading. My curiosity how everything would end up, how things would develop and if and how Lark would gain her voice back, were just too big.
There are a lot of emotions in here. The reader gets an oppressive notion how it must have felt like to be without a voice, and to discover that there are many words but not being able to get their full meaning only because you can´t speak them out loudly. The journey Lark made while learning and discovering all the secrets a language can have – was quite impressive. Especially when you think about the time, this fantasy novel is set.
I loved the way how the author has created Lark. The strength Lark has, the energy she is keeping hidden deep inside her, how she sees her father, how she sometimes acts to stay alive and well. She is a really adorable person though she isn´t what most people call a real beauty. And if you ask me, she is a beauty. Maybe not in the common way, but in her very own one she has more grace and style than any other of the beautiful figures in this novel. Because she´s got a heart.
In the end I guess I am honest when I say that I am torn about this novel. On one hand I enjoyed it very much, on the other I still can´t believe how melodic and dull at the same time a story can be written. Call me crazy or whatever you want, but I already marked the publishing date of the second book. And that not only because of its cover (which is like the one at the beginning of my review), no, but also because after the end of this book I want to know how things go on. Yes, I do believe that this story has still air up. But judge for yourself. ...more

But in Germany the books are not always published the way they are supposed to be.
In her usual gently style, Mary Higgins Clark wrote this thriller with style and class. The tone is soft and wonderful to read and the plot beautiful created and thought through. Good, some dialogues and scenes show a Alvirah I am not so fond of. But mostly she is an adorable, nice old Lady who stands with both feet on the ground and shares her thoughts with her caring and loving husband.
Mary Higgins Clark might not have written one of her best thrillers with this book, but this eleventh Alvirah and Willy book is good for some well entertained reading hours.
Celia is a young successful woman who shows pretty much the kind of woman, the author likes to create in her thrillers. Self-confident (though I am pretty sure Celia wouldn´t describe herself as that, at least not now) but not arrogant. Beautiful but not over the top.
A nice to read thriller with a wonderful main figure, a beautiful scenery and a story that makes you laugh, shake your head or smile while reading. It might not be the best book Mary Higgins Clark has ever written, but it is close. ...more

The right image is everything in the world the Royals live in. Even when that means that you have to do pay people money to solve the bad things you´ve done. But when it comes to a murder, no money in the world can save your butt. And when a hotheaded man, who´s still acting like a little boy comes across you, there is only one thing left you can do: Pray.
The only thing is, Ella is no girl who likes to pray.
Holy crab this book was amazing! Fast-paced, with figures who turned out to be even better than expected and with a plot I was absolutely thrilled to read.
Erin Watt has not only changed her tone a bit, but also the way how the story was presented to the reader. A lot of intrigues, drugs, alcohol and tricks are brought up to keep the novel running and the reader fascinated.
I didn´t see who the actual bad guy was, until the very end. I didn´t even have a clue – and that is … wow. Just wow.
I didn´t like Steve at all. For a grown-up man he is way too childish and didn´t gave a damn if Ella felt comfortable and safe while he was driving his car like the devil´s behind him. Acting like he cares for his daughter and on the other hand he does everything to make her life a living hell. And I am not talking about what he does to Reed.
Good, in this book are again some stereotypes, but this time I didn´t care. They were not THAT important to the plot and had only little scenes, so what the heck. Instead I was very intrigued by the way how Ella handled the situation with her father Steve.
Holy hell – what a fantastic book! This is a genius thriller placed in the life of a young Highschool girl, wealth and excessive life five teenage boys live. I enjoyed every second of it and didn´t see it coming until the very end. I definitely need to read the next books of this series, that´s for sure!...more

I was really surprised how ironic and casual the tone of this novel was. After reading the dark tone of book one, Broken Prince turned out to be easier to read, with a fast pace and a great plot. It was fantastic to see how Reed was thinking, what reasons he brought in to explain why he was acting the way he did and that he knew very well how he was seen by others. And that he didn´t gave a damn.
Oh boy, what a drama! Rape, drugs, evil boys and even more evil bitches and the excessive life of the rich and famous. Well sort of. There is nothing in this novel you wouldn´t want to be in it. And the scene at the end makes you eager to get the third one. Holy hell, I was shocked again and thought it can´t get any better than that. Well, it could …
