I enjoyed this one.
Usually the age gaps I read are reversed, older man, younger woman, so I like mixing it up sometimes. I appreciated that, even in this shorter book, the author showed that Cole had to deal with a lot of things that did mature him more than an average 18 year old.
I do wish had been longer. Certain things could have been fleshed out, instead of the instant change because of 1 thing.
I was more invested in the first half than the second half.

Listened to the audiobook, it was a great audio.
This is a very dark romance.

I loved Josh, he was the highlight for me. I felt for Liv, she had to do so many things she didn't want to do and there were moments when my heart broke for her.

Initially this wasn't on my radar. The 2nd book in the series caught my eye and it was the one I've seen recommended the most but I hatI adored this!
Initially this wasn't on my radar. The 2nd book in the series caught my eye and it was the one I've seen recommended the most but I hate starting a series in the middle (even when they can be read as stand alones), so I backtracked and read the blurb for this one and it hit so many of the tropes that I love.
Age-gap, Ex's Dad, forced proximity, stranded/stuck in one location, lite daddy-kink, and breeding kink (w/o pregnancy). Sign me up!
At the start of this Layla is driving to an internship, I think, but she first has to make a stop at her ex's to give him back his stuff, that she has nicely agreed to keep for a little while so he could get "settled" but can't anymore. And she's tried to get a hold of him but hasn't been able to. Kayce is her ex, they are still friendly-ish, and he's a total flake, who's level of irresponsibility just gave me a twitch when I was reading 90% of this. While heading up there she runs into this gorgeous man at the gas station, who pays for her gas (with today's gas prices that made me swoon!), they flirt a little but the interaction is cut short and they both go their separate ways. When Layla finally gets to where Kayce is staying, the guy who she met at the gas station answers the door and it's Kayce's dad Colton.
5 months pass after those 2 meetings, Layla is all set to get to another internship that should be her final one, in order to graduate to become a vet. But she gets this call from a bank asking about when she's going to repay a loan and that she's already missed payments. She has no idea what they are talking about but quickly finds out that Kayce has taken a loan out in her name and has flaked on payments. So before she can start this internship she has to return to the ranch and get Kayce to pay this money back. And it's from there she gets stranded at the ranch and the sexual tension between Colton and Layla just goes thru the roof.
This is a fairly slow burn at first. Colt and Layla clearly want each other, they clearly have chemistry but mainly because of Kayce, Colt is very adamant about not pursuing Layla, no matter how much he wants her. He didn't have a good relationship with him and Kayce keeps calling Layla "his Layla" so he thinks that his son is still hung up on her and doesn't want to jeopardize their already rocky relationship.
When they get snowed in, for 2 weeks, they decide to use those two weeks to get each other out of their system and then go their separate ways, which to my romance loving heart, never goes the way they plan. But as the days go on, they get in deeper with each other and it's going to make it harder and harder to say goodbye at the end.
For the most part, I adored Colt, he such a steady presence and able to handle anything that came at him. The only thing I didn't love about Colt was that he abandoned his son and didn't have any kind of relationship with him until he got older. I understand he thought he was leaving his son in good/capable hands with Kayce's mom and he wasn't in a good place at all to take care of a child, he was a child himself still, but that is still your kid and it left a bad taste in my month that he left his kid.
This book was also the first book in a while that I started and finished using my Kindle. I've been rereading so much fan fiction and listening to so many audios that my kindle hasn't been getting a lot of use lately, but that changed with this book.
TW/CW: mentions of a family member having dementia/Alzheimer's; mentions of a past and current drugging and raping of women (this is more eluded to, it's not directly said, but there's definite shades of that)
Overall this was such a great book and I could not put it down. I stayed up far later than I should have just to read a little more and every time I was able to squeeze in a chapter I did. I am very excited to read the next book in the series. I do wonder if Kayce will get a book at some point, he showed some growing up at the tail end of this book and if he continues on that path, I'd be interested to see how his romance would play out. ...more

So I tried to read this book, on my kindle, about a year ago. I made it about 15% in because it was just Mina, we only saw brief glimpses of the hero but it was all Mina, and while I liked the character, I was getting bored with only Mina. So I saw the audiobook was at my library and decided to try that, to see if I could make it further.
The first half of this was fine and the narration was good. My main issue with the first half is how little of William Nye we got and that we also never get his POV.
For the first half we would get Nye popping up for a page and then he'd be gone for a significant chunk. We'd get him again for a quick moment and then he'd be gone for another big chunk. He just wasn't a presence, except for brief moments. It left me feeling very detached from him.
Now once him and Mina start sleeping together and getting physical, he's on page more. Which I loved. But there was still a disconnect from him because we never got a moment from his perspective. From what I've heard, the later books do add the hero's POV, so I'm curious to see if I'll like later books better.

I was skeptical about this book, especially with the title. However, I was pleasantly surprised. The writing was great, the story was good, the characters were fun and interesting. This was a good time.
I did think it ended rather abruptly. It took me a few seconds to realize that the book had ended and we were onto a preview of the next book.
I will definitely read more from this author and this series. ...more

I enjoyed this, it was a good pallet cleanser from all the fantasy I've been reading lately.
The main thing I really loved in this story was Wendy's love of her brother Jonathan and how protective she was of him. That is a story point that will always be a winning plot point for me.
There were some issues. Who the actual bad guys were was very obvious.
I did feel like the romance was very surface level. There wasn't a lot of depth to their relationship.
I usually don't care whether a female character is a virgin or not but in this one, she shouldn't have been one. She went from virgin, to loving to be choked to the point of almost blacking out but there was no backstory for that. I feel like there needs to be a little bridge between virgin and loving being choked (and knowing that you love it).
I just realized, I have not mentioned the hero at all. Hook/James is fine. There were moments I liked him and moments where I thought he was acting without thinking and moments where I wanted to knee him between his legs.
While this wasn't the complete home run I was hoping for, I did enjoy it and I'll definitely be continuing the series.
This was my first read by this author. It was really good. The writing kept me interested and the characters kept me entertained.

Sage is just starting college and is a part of her college water polo team and she is so good that everyone is sure she's going to be going to the Olympics. Fallon was on the men's Olympic water polo team and has come to coach at Sage's college.
Immediately they are both very interested in each other. Sage had a long time crush on him and has posters of him on her bedroom wall. And Fallon, specifically came to that college for her. But because he's her coach and 11 years older than her, they run into some obstacles.
The only reason this wasn't a 5 stars was because it was so short. I felt this story would have been better as a longer novel. At the end it felt like there was something missing and I think if it was longer that wouldn't have been how I felt at the end.
I do have a couple more of this author's books on my kindle, so I'm excited to read more books by them in the future. ...more
