"“You slept.” His voice resonates through my skin, his breath hot on my shoulder. “The first night I killed, I didn’t.”"

"“Why are you telling me this?”
He sighs, breathing out harshly against my spine as I open my eyes again. “So that you will understand. Contracts aside, I am who I am. This.” He raises his hand, extending each finger as though his true nature is tattooed on each knuckle. “I will never hide this part of myself from you.”
From someone else, I think the confession would sound romantic. Out of his mouth, it’s terrifying"

"“You keep falling deeper,” he murmurs into my throbbing skin, so softly that I probably imagined it. “Every fucking time I try to give you a way out. You refuse to take it.”"

"The heroine is described as having many visible bruises all the time. She's so beat up, to put it frankly. She's going in public places -- I'm shocked more people who encounter her aren't asking her is she's okay, needs help, etc."

"Anyone who is sensitive to domestic violence within toxic, abusive relationships --especially triggers to bruises will need to stay away from this book. It's not a trigger for me, but I'm kind of shocked this author hasn't received scathing reviews from those with these triggers. I've seen authors get slammed in reviews for face slaps, and this is 10x more brutal."
