Cabin 12 (Rock Point, #2)

12/1/2022 - Relisten before this leaves Audible Plus on 12/20,
This is book 2 in the Rock Point series. While you don’t have to listen to book 1 to enjoy this, I’d recommend it. Series is definitely best enjoyed in order.
I really enjoyed Jasper & Bella’s story. Barker’s characters are older - Jasper is 41 and Bella is 37. While things are going great with her career Bella is secretly struggling with depression. I really like the way Barker handled such a complicated topic, especially Jasper’s willingness to support Bella without micromanaging her. Which means a lot because the majority of her family still sees and treats her as “the baby” of the family. My only complaint would be Jasper using the word “Squirt” as a pet name for Bella. It doesn’t feel like a romantic endearment. (Note: this actually didn’t bother me the second time through, must have just hit me wrong the first time around.)
Again this has a fantastic mix of fairly low angst romance, mystery, and suspense. Cops in town are being murdered and as the complicated investigation unravels it’s apparent many people in town are connected. There’s a kidnapping, survival of the victim, and rescue that adds to the story. I enjoyed the pacing.
I enjoyed the updates on Damian and Kerry as well as the subtle foundations for book 3. This was an enjoyable listen.
Narration:
I loved Teddy Hamilton & Cynthia Farrell’s performances. They were the perfect match for their individual characters. Especially Farrell’s accents and Spanish.
